Chapitre 18: Chapter Eighteen

"So, what do you usually do when there aren't as many people in the camp?"

Annabeth asked me as I was sharpening my spear, looking it over for a moment.

"Train."

I hummed, turning it over to sharpen the other side.

"Is that all you do?"

My eyes trailed up to look at the child with a raised eyebrow.

"Is reading all you do?"

I countered, getting her to look up from her book.

"It passes the time."

She shrugged and I chuckled, picking up the grindstone and putting putting the spear on my shoulder.

"Then you understand me perfectly, little one."

He deadpanned at me, which, on the face of a child not even ten years old yet, was quite adorable, all things considered. I just patted her head. She huffed and slapped my hand away from her head, causing me to chuckle.

"M'not little..."

She mumbled before putting her nose back into the book. I smirked at her for a second, amusement seemingly radiating off of me since she shot me a small glare.

Shaking my head, I walked off, even if there were not as many people in the camp, I still had things to do.

Like making sure Thalia did not burn down the forest by accident, Because yes, that has happened a few times.

I looked to the side, raising an eyebrow at Luke, who was apparently having a staring contest with one of his brothers. Snorting, I headed towards the big house to propose some extensions to the camp, a few new facilities that would help the kids develop their swordsmanship or seamanship more. I would need to ask the Hephaestus cabin to make a few things, but that could be arranged.

As I got closer, I raised a hand, stopping a volleyball from coming in contact with my face, I looked over to the volleyball court with a raised eyebrow, spotting a few grinning brothers of mine.

I raised an eyebrow at their childish behavior, but then again, they were kids...

I grinned.

And so was I.

Twirling the spear in my hand, I walked over to them, stabbing the butt of it into the ground and spun the ball in my hand as I walked into the court.

The discussions on new facilities could wait, we all had a life to live, after all.

"Child of Ares, you are causing problems for us..."

I hummed, my eyes looking over at the three old women that stood in the woods while I was on patrol. I knew who they were, obviously, the three fates, Clotho, Lachesis and Atropos.

The one who spins the string, the one who measures and the one who cuts.

I turned to them, my spear at my side as I stared them down unflinchingly.

"You are not welcome here..."

I spoke bluntly, my eyes narrowing at them. One of the, Clotho, chuckled, tilting her head at me.

"We are well aware of that, young demigod, but we just want to make sure that you are aware of the impact you have on the very course of fate."

I quirked an eyebrow, but otherwise did not move. Because in all honesty, I did not care.

"The strings of fate can not reach you..."

Lachesis remarked, looking at me like I was some sort of new discovery, a rare species.

"It is odd, your very presence is rejecting us... Our domain."

I did not respond, standing as still as a statue, staring at them with a blank expression.

Atropos spoke next, a pair of scissors in her hand.

"We have had a dozen years to come to terms with the fact that the fate was out of our hands..."

She hummed, the voice raspy and aged.

"Have you come to terms with the fact that it won't always be in yours, too?"

I did not answer, my eyes boring into hers as the silence lingered in the woods. I could kill them, nobody would notice if I did their job for them, but I would have to be impartial, something that I couldn't do.

The four of us remained silent, I was waiting for them to leave, while they were most likely waiting for me to say something else, which would not happen.

"I see your dislike of us hasn't lessened since the last time we met..."

Clotho commented and my spear moved, surging forward, slicing through the air and past her head, tearing the tree behind her to shreds.

"You are not welcome here... Leave."

The three didn't react, only staring at me with my extended hand as the spear shot back into my hand.

Evidently, they left, they just, weren't there anymore.

I hummed and continued on my patrol.
