Chapitre 9: Grand Combat Tournament (2)

A/N: If you want, check out my song 'Killing Me' on YouTube; my channel's name is the same as my author name. It has a lyric video. Oh, and it is alternative rock.

"Fight," was what the announcer said after doing a cliché introduction for the tournament.

It seems that there are 20 people cramped—well, not really cramped—in one place; the numbers must be narrowed down to 8 people.

No one was surprised by this; it was an obvious turn of events, as it would take a long time if everyone fought only 1v1.

As soon as the last words left the mouth of the announcer, or whoever, three people instantly went after Xavier.

"Let's get the rich kid!" "He looks weak, easy one," etc. etc.

Xavier stepped back and whispered [Electrosphere]. He lightly spread his arms, opened his hands, and two balls of lightning appeared in his palms. He aimed them at the two men and shot them.

The spell, with amazing accuracy, hit them straight in the chest, knocking them onto their backs while the lightning made them shake a bit. The men quickly got up, but that didn't matter, as Xavier quickly cast two [Crystal Lances], piercing their heads and killing them instantly.

Yes, he killed them. It's not against the rules to kill participants. Xavier's Hanzos also found information about someone called Go Gin, a 'Warrior King,' who had killed people too before, so Xavier wasn't stressed about taking his opponents' lives.

As he killed the two men, he remembered that three people had come after him; but he lost sight of the third one because of the commotion of everyone fighting each other. Suddenly, he heard a 'huupp' sound behind him, as if someone was going to swing something down.

Xavier quickly turned around and brought up his arms to defend himself, even though he didn't need to; but he had to put up at least a little show. Just before the axe was brought down on his arm, he decided to cast [Shock Wave]. The spell emitted an invisible wave, distorting the air around them and knocking the man back, who had a shocked expression. The shock knocked the weapon out of his hand, as well as crushing the armor he was wearing. Just before the man landed on his back, Xavier cast three [Fireballs], aimed at him; they connected, killing the man.

While Xavier fought the three men, Yuri was fighting a female mage and a swordsman.

The mage cast [Lesser Dexterity] on Yuri, which, of course, didn't work, while the man used a martial art called [Cutting Edge] and swung his long sword at her.

Yuri brought up her hand and, with her huge gauntlet, parried the sword out of the way. With her left hand, she punched the guy in the face, knocking him back several steps. The punch could've killed him if Yuri hadn't been ordered to hold back a bit and give a bit of a show.

Now that the swordsman was away from her, Yuri rushed at the mage and punched her hard in the stomach, knocking the air out of her, which she followed up with a hard punch to the back of her head.

The woman fell to the ground limply; quickly, a pool of blood started forming under her face.

"Lilly!!!" the man with the long sword shouted in horror and fury, blindly rushing at Yuri, who calmly sidestepped his slash, which was strengthened by [Fatal Edge]. After Yuri sidestepped the slash, seeing things almost in slow motion, she placed the tips of her fingers against his spine and, in a flash, formed a fist and punched him, blowing a hole in his body and killing him instantly.

As Xavier calculated his next move, he spotted a burly brute charging towards him, brandishing spiked gauntlets. He narrowed his eyes. It was time to put on a little more of a show.

Meanwhile, Yuri flexed her gauntlet, wiping the remnants of the swordsman off her fist. She took a brief moment to glance around, calculating her next target amidst the frenzy. She noticed a muscular fighter breaking the neck of a female sorcerer. With a stoic gaze, she flexed her knees and surged forward.

Xavier vaulted over the charging brute, landing deftly behind him. Without losing a beat, he conjured a blazing [Flame Whip] and lashed out, the fiery tendril wrapping around the brute's arm. Igniting the man's flesh, Xavier pulled hard, dragging him off balance and sending him crashing to the ground.

As the brute struggled, Xavier quickly followed up, murmuring [Shatter]. An instant explosion ripped through the arena, shattering the ground beneath the brute and sending debris into the air. The brute grimaced; pain marred his face as he realized he was at a disadvantage—Xavier was not just a "rich kid," but a formidable combatant.

Yuri landed gracefully next to the fighter and accidentally punched the back of his head with too much force, breaking his skull and killing him. "Oops," she said, letting out a small sigh with her eyes closed.

Noticing that the brute seemed dazed from the impact of his last spell, Xavier conjured a swirling mass of lightning in his hand, casting [Thunder Flash]. He aimed it over the brute's head; the surge blasted through the air, crackling as it struck another combatant in the vicinity—a hapless rogue trying to sneak up on him.

The rogue convulsed and fell, leaving the brute temporarily stunned. With a confident stride, Xavier approached the fallen menace, raising a hand for the final strike. But just then, a shadow loomed over him—one of the remaining fighters, a cloaked figure wielding twin enchanted daggers, lunged with lethal speed.

Yuri saw the rogue aiming for Xavier, so she decided to intervene. She swung a powerful fist at the rogue's midsection, but the figure projected a bubble of force, bouncing her blow back. The rogue spun, attempting to regain footing, but Xavier, regaining his composure, unleashed a quick flurry of [Ice Shards] from his palm, sending glistening projectiles straight at the rogue.

The cloaked figure barely had time to dodge as one of the shards grazed their arm, causing them to yelp in surprise. Seizing the opportunity, Xavier took a step forward and thrust his hand out, channeling a fierce [Lightning Bolt] that struck true, sending the rogue crashing against the arena wall.
