Peter Daka (POV)
“…….mmmmmm, winter bear…..” I hummed to the song as I browsed through my tablet, searching for some research materials to help me with my assignment.
Since I had nothing to do on a free period, I decided to just do the assignment that was given earlier in the first lecture of the day. Instead of just lazing around doing nothing.
It’s just that as I was sitting there, under the shed of a tree by myself, I suddenly received an unexpected visitor. A face that I never thought I would see again that soon.
It was the kind of person that I wished I wouldn’t see early, but I guess that was no longer impossible. I watched helplessly as the other sat on the opposite bench with a bunch of books in hand. And to make matters worse, he didn’t even bother to ask whether there were people with me or not.
He just sat there as if he owned the place and that alone made me pissed off at him more.
Glaring at him for the two of us couldn’t be considered friends at all, I asked coldly, “What do you want?”
However, the other didn’t seem to be bothered much and I could see that from that smirk on his face.
And with his hybrid features that made him look exquisite and handsome for a man, which bothered me a lot for the other, was one of the hottest guys on campus.
Even Tadiwa was pushed a few spots down the moment the guy sitting in front of me became popular.
“I saw an acquaintance and thought that I should say hie,” the other responded shamelessly.
Looking at him speaking like that, my blood started boiling so much that I felt very enraged with what was happening.
“Who is your acquaintance?” I asked angrily as I placed the tablet on the metal table.
The other didn’t seem fazed at all, but curled his lips as he sat back in a relaxed manner.
“You, my dear friend with the same situation and problem as me, are my acquaintance. I am just wondering how your forbidden love is going?” in a sarcastic tone, the other responded.
Hearing his rude comments, I was so angry that I wished to throw a punch at the other, but when I thought of those muscles hidden within the clothes, I knew that I wasn’t a match.
It would be embarrassing if I suddenly got beaten just because I couldn’t control my anger for a silly reason.
“You_”
“Peter, Peter. It’s not embarrassing, actually. The three of us should be friends. You never know when that will be of great help in the future,” the other shamelessly suggested, taking me aback.
“Douglas, aren’t you embarrassed?” I asked as I looked at him.
Douglas smirked as he looked at me as if he was looking at someone whom he was very embarrassed to be associated with, and it made me wonder.
Me and the guy had never been friends. We weren’t even on talking terms at all. I wasn’t even interested in him, despite him being popular at school.
But that day when I was talking to Tadiwa about his forbidden crush, that was the day that we messed it up.
Who would have guessed that the place I thought was secure from prying eyes would be the place that got me into the mess?
To think that Douglas overheard our conversation and was even bold to suggest a hilarious idea on how to tackle our love problems, I just couldn’t take it.
We both could take it and honestly, we were very embarrassed to have been caught talking about it.
And now there he was, talking about how he was in the same situation as them. What the heck was he even talking about?
“I can see that you are confused. But honestly, Peter, I am not the kind of person that will look down on you just because of that,” Douglas said as a smile blossomed on his face.
“And all that because we share the same situation and secret?” I asked in wonder, interest visible in my eyes as I looked at him.
Douglas nodded his head at my query and answered, “Um, something like that. Besides, like I said, nothing is embarrassing about loving someone. Instead of hiding away and being embarrassed about it, we should accept it and stop running away from it,” in a relaxed manner.
Seeing him like that, I couldn’t help but compare his current expression to the one I saw the last time he eavesdropped.
Something seemed very different about him. He looked happier and more relaxed than ever. And I couldn’t help but wonder what happened during the period we hadn’t bumped into each other.
And that curiosity of mine made me lessen my hatred towards the other. Since he seemed to have solutions to the problem that I didn’t know how to solve. I decided to try my luck and hear from him about how to solve the problem.
“Fine, since we are talking about this, then give it to me and you better be not pulling my leg!” I warned him as I agreed to have a peaceful talk with him.
Douglas pulled a victory smile at me the second I said that. I watched him as he leaned forward and placed his elbows on the table.
Seeing him like that, I knew that trouble was on its way, but since I was already curious; it was already too late for me to step on the brakes.
Maybe just like he said, embracing it would be better than running away. For whatever I do, I just couldn’t forget about her and that had been eating me slowly from the inside.
I needed a way out, and maybe Douglas had a way for me. So I was going to try my best and see if it was going to work.
“Since you are interested, then I guess that we should start, but before that. How about we introduce ourselves to each other formally?”
