Chapitre 1: Awakening in Chains

Blake's eyes fluttered open, a heavy grogginess settling in his mind as if he had been asleep for far too long. His senses were dull, and a persistent ache spread through his body. The cold, rough texture of stone pressed into his back, while something heavy bound his wrists and ankles. The clinking of chains reached his ears.

Where am I?

He forced his eyes to open fully. His vision blurred momentarily before adjusting to the dim light. Stone walls, wet and cold, formed the boundaries of a small, cramped cell. The flickering light from a distant torch outside his prison cast long, eerie shadows that danced across the ground.

Blake tried to sit up, but the rattling chains pulled him back. The weight of iron shackles on his wrists and ankles kept him pinned against the stone wall. A wave of confusion crashed over him.

This… this isn't right. Why am I here?

He blinked again, his mind scrambling to piece together how he had ended up in this place. The memories came in scattered fragments—flashes of a life spent reading quietly, tending to a garden, enjoying the peaceful solitude. But those memories clashed violently with what he was experiencing now.

And then, a name surfaced from the depths of his consciousness.

Blake D. Flame.

It hit him like a wave. That wasn't his name—at least, not the one he remembered from his old life. Yet somehow, it felt tied to this body, tied to this place. He looked down at himself and noticed the unfamiliar, rugged build of his new form. His hands were larger, calloused, and his body was far stronger than it should have been. His reflection in the puddle of water at his feet revealed a stranger: a man with sharp, rugged features, a strong jawline, and striking, glowing purple eyes.

Blake's breath hitched. This wasn't his body. This wasn't the life he had known.

He swallowed hard, his mind scrambling for an explanation. Transmigration—the word floated into his mind, and as foreign as it seemed, it felt right. Somehow, he had been thrown into this body, into this world, far from the life he remembered.

But where was he? What world had he been thrust into? The damp, cold air of the cell, the oppressive atmosphere—it didn't match anything he recognized. And the name "Blake D. Flame" echoed in his mind, ominous yet empty. He knew nothing about this man whose body he now inhabited, only that he was someone else. Someone with a dangerous name.

Blake exhaled slowly, trying to keep his composure despite the storm of confusion raging inside him. He didn't know what this world was, but he had to figure it out. For now, he was stuck in a prison, shackled to the wall with no memory of how he had gotten here.

But one thing was certain: this wasn't his world, and this wasn't his life.

Blake leaned his head back against the cold stone wall, trying to suppress the rising confusion gnawing at him. His body still felt foreign, heavy with fatigue. As he took a moment to process, a sudden, sharp pain shot through his head, making him wince.

When his vision cleared, something unexpected appeared—a translucent screen floating in front of him, faintly glowing in the dim light. The interface was unlike anything he had ever seen, yet it felt real.

Welcome, User, to the Aether Deck.

Gift Package Available: 1

Number of Card Slots: 3

What is this?

The screen pulsed gently, waiting for his input. Blake wasn't sure what it was, but instinctively, he knew it was important. He focused on the prompt.

Open Gift Package?

(Yes / No)

Blake hesitated for a moment before selecting "Yes." The screen flickered, and two new items appeared in what seemed to be an inventory. They hovered there, glowing softly.

Inventory:

1 Basic Card Draw Coupon

1 Premium Card Draw Coupon

The interface shifted once more, revealing three distinct sections: Inventory, Shop (unavailable), and Card Draws. The Shop was currently locked, leaving only the Card Draws option active. Blake tapped into it mentally, curious about how this system worked.

The screen transitioned to a new menu, offering details about how the draws functioned.

Card Draws:

Basic Random Draw:

Cost: 100 Aether Points (AP)

Chances: 60% chance to draw a Tier 1 character template, 20% chance to draw a Tier 2 character template, 10% chance to draw a Tier 3 character template, 5% chance to draw a Tier 4 character template, 5% chance to draw nothing (unlucky)

Premium Random Draw:

Cost: 10,000 Aether Points (AP)

Chances: 60% chance to draw a Tier 2 character template, 20% chance to draw a Tier 3 character template, 10% chance to draw a Tier 4 character template, 2% chance to draw a Tier 5 character template, 8% chance to draw nothing (unlucky)

Tiers: Tier 1 is the lowest potential, and Tier 5 is the highest.

Blake exhaled slowly. This system was built around acquiring character templates, each with unique abilities, and he had the chance to draw two cards—one basic and one premium. He knew nothing about the characters he would draw, but anything that gave him an edge in his current situation was welcome.

He focused on the Basic Random Draw first. A soft hum filled the air as the system accepted the coupon, and a card began to materialize in front of him. The card glowed softly, its ornate design intricate and detailed. Slowly, it flipped over.

Card: Hanataro Yamada

Tier: 1

Character Template: Hanataro Yamada

Self-Healing: Accelerates your body's natural healing process, allowing you to recover from minor injuries and fatigue more quickly.

Stamina Restoration: Gradually restores stamina over time, allowing for extended physical exertion.

Status: Unlocked.

Blake nodded, taking in the card's information. A healer with basic abilities—this would be useful. Not a powerhouse by any means, but considering his current weakened state, the ability to recover faster and replenish his stamina could be a lifesaver.

Without hesitating, he moved to the Premium Random Draw. Another hum filled the air as the premium coupon vanished from his inventory, and a new card began to materialize, glowing more intensely than the first. It flipped over, revealing a striking figure in golden armor with watchful eyes.

Card: Heimdall

Tier: 4

Character Template: Heimdall

Enhanced Vision: Sharpen visual perception, allowing you to see minute details, rapid movements, and subtle changes in your environment with exceptional clarity.

Gaze Intimidation: Exert a powerful, fear-inducing aura through direct eye contact, weakening the resolve of those who meet your gaze.

Status: Unlocked.

Blake's breath caught. A Tier 4 card? This character seemed far more powerful than the first. Enhanced vision and the ability to intimidate others with his gaze? These were tools he could use—potential game changers in a place like this.

The system prompted him once more.

Please assign cards to available slots.

Blake now understood the basic mechanics of the Aether Deck—he could hold up to three cards at once. With two unlocked, he quickly placed Hanataro Yamada into the first slot. As he did, a faint warmth spread through his body. The dull ache in his muscles began to ease, and though the fatigue remained, he could feel his stamina slowly restoring itself.

Next, he assigned Heimdall to the second slot. Immediately, his vision sharpened. The dim light of his cell became more detailed, and he could see the tiny cracks in the stone walls with startling clarity. Even the distant torch flickering in the hallway cast shadows he hadn't noticed before. His eyes felt sharper, more powerful than before.

Blake took a deep breath, absorbing the power now coursing through him. The Aether Deck had given him tools—character templates from another world that he didn't fully understand, but that didn't matter. What mattered was that these powers would help him survive.

I'm not out yet, he thought, determination settling in his chest.

He would figure out how to use these abilities to his advantage. After all, survival in this world depended on it.
