Sun slowly rises up, bringing to the world a new day.
On a small yellow beach rests a broken boat. The small mast is cracked , the sail is torn to shreds and on the side is a hole.
Seems the boat was there for some hours now.
Inside the boat we see a small child with brown hair, sleeping with a grimace.
As the sun starts to peek through the boat's hull, it falls on the sleeping boy's face.
Fluttering his eyes, he slowly wakes up.
When he opens them, their yellow color can be seen.
"Where am I?" Says the child, begrudgingly getting up.
Trying to put his arm on the floor, the boy suddenly falls down.
Bam!
"Ouch! What the hell?!" Loudly asks the kid, more carefully trying to sit up straight.
"Why is everything so big?" Asks the boy again, looking around.
Putting his hands in front of his face, he looks at them and says. "Well, those are definitely too small to be mine. Weird"
*Yawn*
"Hmmm… Why is my voice so weak?" *Cough, Cough* "Damn, I need some water."
Boy again looks around, trying to state his location.
"This for sure seems like a beach, but where is this? I don't remember…"
Right at this moment, his face falls and his eyes narrow. "Who am I?"
Suddenly, he grabs his head and screams. "Ahhh, my head!" It's a strong headache.
After some screaming and turning, it seems to pass. "What was that?" He says, massaging sides of his head. "Why do I have so many weird memories now? What is this?"
Seemingly exasperated, he tries to calm down. "Ok, slow down. Let's start by remembering who I am."
After a moment of contemplation, he states. "My name is Endar Caden and I'm 5 this year." He thinks for a moment. "Why did I say my name after the surname? Shouldn't it be the opposite way? But it seems strangely normal."
There is silence for a bit. We can clearly see Caden seriously thinking and trying to sort out what he remembers. With every passing moment, his expression is changing.
"My memory seems to be quite fragmented. The fact I can even speak and think properly is a miracle. When I try to remember something, I see gaps in my memories."
His words are concerning, and his face is showing that.
"I remember being stranded on the sea, drifting on my small boat. I might have spent weeks just sitting there and looking for any dry land. I had some food with me at least, but it ran out around 3 days ago. At least I still had some water to drink." Says Caden, with a small smile, his suffering shown clearly.
"Ok, stop feeling sorry for yourself, you need to get up and find some food, lest you suddenly fall down and die from starvation. Now that would be a pathetic death." Caden says with a bigger smile on his young face. Getting up, he sees in his boat a bitten fruit with weird shapes and colors.
"Blech, I remember when I was still in the sea, I saw a boat wreckage. Thinking that I might find more food, I paddled as hard as I could, but the only thing there was this disgusting, weird fruit. Biting and swallowing it will be my worst memory so far. It would be better to starve a day more than eat this crap!"
As he was complaining, a memory surfaced up and his face changed. "Wasn't there a story involving fruits? Hmm… Wait, it's not time for this. Food. I gotta find some food. Civilization would also be nice."
Caden started walking through the beach. As the sun was going fairly high, he started to hear nature waking up. Listening to birds singing made his mood turn for the better and with a smile, he continued to walk down the beach, trying to spot some food, like coconuts on the palm trees.
"Now that I think about it, my body seems to be smaller than I remember, but also exactly the way it should be.." He says, stopping for a moment. "Let's check something." Caden states, turning in the direction of the sea.
Looking at it, the waves seem to have calmed down, not rising as high as before, making for a beautiful scene of a calm beachside.
Walking closer to the water, our hero looks at its surface.
Standing right in front of it, he lean's out, and sees a youthful face. "Now that's really weird. I know it's my face, but it also shouldn't be." He says, getting more confused by the second. "It's clearly my face, I remember seeing it in the mirror." He taps his face with small fingers of his palm. "That is strange too. It's like I'm used to having a bigger body. This is starting to be creepy."
Stepping back from the water, he sits down facing the sea and says. "It's like I'm possessing this body, while being from another."
He again looks at his hands. "It's similar to those stories I remember reading about. It's like that reincarnation bullshit." He stops to think about it. "That would clarify some things, but I don't seem to remember almost anything from my supposedly 'past' life."
Caden sits there, pulling his legs up and resting his head on his knees. "What do I even really remember? Think.."
After sitting here for over an hour, he looks up and starts talking. "I don't remember my childhood, nor where my home is or what my parents look like. I seem to have some fragmented memories about another life, in a different world."
He looks down, picks a nearby stick and starts to write in the sand. "What I do remember is many stories I seem to have read." He writes some words. "Language is fine, I am able to write what I think without issue. Communication shouldn't be a problem, since the language this body knows is the same I know."
*Rumbling*
Caden pats his stomach. "Right, food." He slowly gets up, pats his pants to get rid of the sand and turns to the side to continue his search for food.
As he walks, time passes, and with nothing edible in sight, he starts to think again. 'Going back to it, that weird fruit seemed really familiar. Those weird patterns, that unconventional light blue color. It definitely reminds me of devil fruits.'
Stopping again, but resuming walking right after, he says. "No way, that's impossible. Nuh uh. I won't believe it was a devil fruit." Suddenly he starts walking towards the sea again. "Now, that's one way to find out, isn't it?"
Takes off his broken down sandals, his pants aren't a problem since they are so short and he puts his feet in the water.
*Bam!*
Caden falls back on the beach with his feet in the water. Losing all strength isn't funny. "Ouch, that is brutal." He looks at his feet, helplessly lying in water, not even floating a bit. "I won't be able to swim anymore?" His face saddens, but suddenly becomes frightened. "What if my boat sank? I would be dead right now!"
After a moment of calming down, he waits for the water level to drop a bit and then moves back as far as his small strength lets him. Feeling his life returning to him, he gets up and moves away from the sea, picking up his sandals in the process. "Looks like I won't touch the sea again. Hmm, since the curse is real, at least I can be sure that it's a sea around me, and not a big lake or something. Forcing it, it's possible that this world really is the One Piece world, if the devil fruits are real and the curse of the sea works on their users."
"Now the only thing to check is if I really possess devil fruit powers."
Sitting on some rock near the trees, he assumes the lotus position. "Huuu." 'If I have some powers, then going by my knowledge I should instinctively know how to use them.' After a moment, he puts his hand's palm up and a light blue blob forms on it.
"Wow, it worked." After touching it a bit, he states. "This is most likely slime."
In this moment, knowledge on what is the power of his devil fruit enters his mind.
"Uhh, that's surprisingly a lot of information." He shuts his mouth and thinks. 'It's name is Slime-Slime fruit, a paramecia from what I know, although I never heard about it in the show, maybe it's a new one!' A smile formed on his face. 'There are so many things I need to check!'
As he sits there happily thinking about his amazing power, suddenly he hears a voice.
"Hey, what are you doing here kid?" Asks the voice.
Startled, Caden looks around and spots the voice's owner.
"Who are you?" He asks, getting up from the rock.
"I should be asking that, since you are a strange face to me. But well, I'm Genzo, a sheriff."
Genzo introduces himself. "Now who are you kid? You don't look like one of the village kids."
Caden looks more closely at Genzo, who is wearing a brown police like shirt with brown matching shorts. On his face he sports a thick mustache of a dark color, similar to his hair. For some strange reason, on his sheriff hat, he has a big pinwheel.
As the wind sped up for a moment, the pinwheel started spinning, making Caden look at it.
"What is it kid, you like my pinwheel? If you want, I will let you play with it if you tell me your name." Says Genzo, after cracking a small smirk.
"That won't be necessary Mr. Genzo. My name is Caden, Endar Caden and I have no idea where I am." States Caden after a moment of looking at this weird sight.
"Very well, young Caden, right now you are just outside of Cocoyasi Village, on the Conomi Islands."
The pure look of shock on his face showed a lot to Genzo, who said. "Looks like you really aren't from around here. Where are you from?"
"I don't remember, I came here by boat, it should still be there in this direction." He answers, showing with his finger where he came from. "I was walking for a while so it might be a bit far."
"That's no problem kid, but where are your parents? Have they gone somewhere?"
"No, I came here alone."
Murmuring to himself "That's concerning." As he says this Genzo speaks again. "Ok Caden, we should take you back to your parents, but since we can't really do that here on the beach, come with me to the village, we might work something out for you."
"Sure and could I get some food, I haven't eaten for a few days at this point."
"What?! Then hop on my back. We will quickly reach the village and feed you something." Genzo says, turning around and lowering his back.
"Ok" Approves Caden, sitting on his back.
"Are you ok up there?"
"No problem, it's pretty stable."
"Good, let's go."
As Genzo was walking, they talked to each other. "It's good that you walked there, normally I don't go too far to patrol the village. You got really lucky with that."
"I really did, I don't know if I would have the strength to move much more without food. I'm happy you found me." Says Caden with a smile on his face.
"Then save your energy for later, so you can eat by yourself." Commented Genzo, happy to help.
"Also, how old are you? You seem pretty smart, but you look young."
"I'm 5 years old."
"What?! You are only five? You are younger than I thought." Says Genzo, shrugging off the small shock he just had.
"Mister, what year is it now?"
"Where did that come from? According to the Sea Circle Calendar, the year is 1507."
"Oh, that's good."
"Why do you ask?"
"No reason, really." Says Caden, very happy that he won't see Arlong in the village.
"Whatever you say kid, let me pick up the pace, so we can arrive before lunch." Remarks Genzo, picking up speed and starting to jog.
'Let's see what real Cocoyasi Village looks like.' Thinks Caden, looking ahead on the road.
