Karin subconsciously tightened her grip on Kazuki's sleeve.
Although she didn't know what the one-eyed old man in front of them intended, this battle didn't seem to bode well.
She didn't want to follow Danzo.
Kazuki patted her hand, signaling her not to worry.
Staring at the Root ninjas, he finally locked eyes with Danzo and asked calmly, "What do you want to do with Karin?"
"This is a top-secret mission of the Root, no further comment."

Kazuki chuckled angrily.
Originally, he planned to spare Danzo's life, thinking it might be useful for Sasuke's growth. But now, it seemed he had been too kind.

The strength gap between a Jonin and someone of Kage-level was immense, and Kazuki's power had long surpassed the Kage level. Even his shadow clones wielded that strength.
Even if there were ten Torune, they wouldn't stand a chance!
Meanwhile, Danzo didn't bother looking back to see Fu and Torune's fate. He knew that against such a monster, those two would only die if they stayed!
His only priority now was to escape.
But where could he go?
Should he flee back to the Root base?
Was there anyone there strong enough to protect him?
Maybe he could make it to the Hokage Building?
Would the two advisors stop Gekko Kazuki?
This guy even dared to kill him—why would he listen to the two advisors?
Realizing there was no place to hide within Konoha, Danzo decided he had no choice but to escape outside the village.
But then, he changed his mind and ran toward the Gekko Clan instead!
This Gekko Kazuki was insane!
With his strength, it was impossible to outrun him. He needed a hostage.
Danzo didn't know Kazuki well, but he figured that someone from the Gekko Clan might be able to stop Kazuki from going too far.
After all, if Kazuki openly killed a Konoha elder, he would be labeled a rogue ninja by the village.
Danzo believed the Gekko Clan's patriarch would be wise enough to dissuade Kazuki from doing something so reckless. Otherwise, the entire clan might face annihilation.
As Danzo weighed his options, he regretted underestimating Kazuki's talents.
If only he had brought Kazuki into Root when he first learned about his genius, he could have been the one in control of such power.
Danzo touched his Sharingan, wondering if it was worth using one of its precious abilities on Gekko Kazuki.
Suddenly, Danzo sensed danger. He didn't have time to evade and quickly summoned his Summoning Beast, the giant tapir-like creature known as a Baku, to shield himself.
The next moment, Baku let out a horrible scream as an invisible blade sliced it in half as easily as cutting paper.
"Moo!!!"
Hearing the pitiful cry of his Summoning Beast, Danzo took the chance to roll away, putting a few meters of distance between him and his attacker. When he turned around, he saw Baku lying dead on the ground, its body mangled. And in the darkness, a pair of scarlet eyes gleamed menacingly.
"Sharingan?"
The thought barely crossed Danzo's mind before those eyes disappeared.
Shaking his head vigorously, he tried to clear his mind.
"Damn Uchiha, even in death, they plague my mind!"
Danzo didn't believe that a living Uchiha had appeared—he thought it was a hallucination born from his anxiety.
Regaining his composure, Danzo surveyed his surroundings. His dead Summoning Beast and the eerie silence filled him with dread.
Had he not reacted as quickly as he did, he would have been the one lying in a pool of blood.
Danzo's eyes scanned the darkness, trying to spot Kazuki.
But it was no use. The night was too dark, and he couldn't see Kazuki anywhere.
"Kazuki! Come out! Don't you want to kill me?!" Danzo shouted into the silence.
"I didn't expect you to hide such strength. Are you Sarutobi's trump card?"
The only response was the echo of his own voice in the empty streets of Konoha.
Danzo frowned. He realized something was very wrong. Why hadn't any civilians been woken up by the noise?
He quickly formed hand seals.
"Genjutsu: Release!"
But nothing changed.
Baku's body remained. The night was still suffocatingly dark, and the streets were just as empty as before.
"Impossible! How can you cast such a high-level Genjutsu?"
"Wind Style: Vacuum Waves!"
Desperate, Danzo unleashed a large-scale wind technique, aiming to destroy the surrounding houses.
Instead of revealing anything, his wind jutsu toppled numerous homes, sending debris flying.
Moments later, several ANBU appeared and surrounded him.
"Dan… Danzo-sama?"
"What are you doing here? Why are you attacking Konoha?"
"ANBU?" Danzo narrowed his eyes. He hadn't expected ANBU to show up. Was this still a genjutsu? Or had something else happened?
As Danzo pondered, three figures slowly stepped forward.
"Homura, Koharu… Jiraiya?!"
Led by Jiraiya, Homura and Koharu flanked him.
Jiraiya's face showed a mixture of sorrow and fury.
"Danzo, it's over. The ANBU have the area surrounded. You can't escape!"
