"Why are there so many of these things?"
"They're called cutlery."
"..."
"Can I use my chopsticks?" Naruto wanted to take the wooden chopsticks out of his pocket to eat more comfortably but received a disapproving look from Katara that made him stop.
"It would be impolite to use your own utensils at a dinner like this."
"Come on, Katara, look at Aang, he's eating with his hands."
"Hey, that's how we did it in the monasteries where I grew up. Plus, I eat mostly vegetables, so eating with my hands is fine for me."
"Why not just say you eat the way you want and don't care about others' opinions?"
"Be quite, Soka."
"..." Ignoring the argument between the two Water Tribe siblings, Naruto took out his chopsticks from his pocket. He was hungry, and his chopsticks immediately went for a steaming platter full of meat. Whatever meat it was, it tasted delicious – soft and almost sweet.
"Thank you. I can see you're enjoying the meat," the North Pole princess said with a soft smile as she served herself some meat from the plate that Naruto had been helping himself to.
"Why, yes!" Naruto wasn't the most mannered person, but he ate politely enough not to make anyone uncomfortable. He filled his plate with the delicious meat, thinking it might be good for future ramen dishes he could make. "Is this whale? Or bear?"
"It's juvenile Lion Seal."
"…"
Naruto stopped eating abruptly and turned to Yue with a baffled expression as she continued to enjoy her meal. Katara and Sokka were also savoring the dish.
"Heh, I think I heard that wrong. Did you say baby lion seal meat?" Naruto hoped he had misheard; earlier that morning, he had been playing with some baby seals he found in the coral, even naming one of them Chamu.
"Yes, only when they're young do they have a very sweet and flavorful taste. These seals were brought in this morning just for you. They're one of the most exquisite and ancient dishes of our tribe. What do you say?"
"…"
"…"
"…"
"You're crying?" Yue blinked in confusion as the cheerful boy in orange stared blankly at her plate with teary eyes.
"Aang… Can I eat from your plate?"
"Of course."
*Sniff*
The door to the main room was destroyed, leaving everyone startled by the unexpected arrival of an exhausted Niisa.
"We have a problem."
….
War can be seen by some as a game, a game with its rules. Like all rules, they could be bent, or even broken if necessary to win. But, regardless of the tricks one employed, victory depended on the possession and effective use of the right information.
At least, that was how Admiral Zhao saw it.
"You seem pensive, Admiral Zhao." On the ship's deck, the legendary Dragon of the West enjoyed a cup of tea while observing his general, who stood with arms crossed, gazing out at the horizon as they sailed towards their destination.
"I'm feeling impatient, General Iroh," the firebender replied calmly, his focus still on the horizon, where their massive fleet continued to advance at full speed.
"Perhaps a cup of tea could soothe that impatience?" Iroh offered with a smile as he poured another cup.
"It seems like tea is your solution for everything."
"Sipping tea and taking a moment to appreciate the tranquility around us can work wonders..." The tea's sweet aroma provided relaxation to his tense muscles and weary bones.
"I'll remember that when we win this war." Several minutes passed in silence, with only the sound of waves against the armored hull of the ship filling the air. "What do you know about the Orange Pillar?"
"He's a fascinating young man."
"I was hoping for more details." Frowning, Zhao maintained his intense gaze. "The entire continent has heard about a boy, no older than 13, possessing remarkable abilities. They say he can muster the strength of a hundred men and move at the speed of lightning. Moreover, he's rumored to have other skills that make him an even greater threat than the Avatar."
These rumors might have started among desperate villagers searching for a savior. However, after the fall of their nation's most secure and powerful bunker, the rumors gained credibility.
"Does he remind you of someone?" The question prompted Iroh to pause while sipping his tea and earned him a stern look from Zhao.
"Unfortunately yes" he had dark memories of the last young man who showed abilities... that were simply out of this world.
"One day we faced a monster just as dangerous as this child. Unfortunately, we didn't possess a leash strong enough to control it," Zhao tensed his hands reflexively, recalling one of the 'soldiers' that had enabled their advances into the Earth Kingdom. "Zàishēng was a monster..."
The mere mention of that name hung heavily in the ship's cabin, rendering everyone silent with apprehension as they remembered one of the Fire Nation's most formidable warriors.
Breaking the silence, Zhao continued, "This Orange Pillar is another kind of monster, and it's clear when you consider what happened to Princess Azula."
"What happened to her?" Iroh inquired, curious about the fate of his niece, whom he hadn't seen in a long time.
"The Fire Lord dispatched Princess Azula to eliminate the Orange Pillar. However, she failed in her mission. Her banishment was a fitting consequence for such a disgraceful failure." The satisfaction in his smile was palpable as he recounted the 'unfortunate' incident.
"Princess Azula was banished?" Iroh was taken aback by this revelation, and a nearby soldier, discreetly eavesdropping, also displayed disbelief at this disclosure.
"You didn't know? That's the cost of being disconnected from the world," he added with a satisfaction that was hard to conceal. He couldn't help but find pleasure in the downfall of another of his nation's royals, not because he despised them, but rather because witnessing their fall was strangely gratifying.
"It's disheartening to hear that," Iroh mumbled in sorrow, pondering another regrettable decision made by his younger brother. He glanced at his escort soldier for a few moments, who stood nearby, and asked, "What do you make of this, Prince Zuko?"
It turned out that the armored soldier was none other than Prince Zuko, who remained silent, gazing at the floor, consumed by countless thoughts, each one revolving around his younger sister and his father.
"Let's return to our matter at hand. What should we do with these two threats?" Addressing the ship's admiral, Iroh turned to meet the steely gaze of the seasoned General Zhao.
"I presume you already have a plan," Iroh responded, well aware that Zhao wasn't seeking an answer, but rather an opportunity to boost his ego.
"Yes, to demolish a pillar, you must use the appropriate tools," snapping his fingers, the main door of the cabin was opened and several soldiers came carrying a large box, which was placed before Iroh and Zuko, "I present to you the future." "General Iroh"
