The two of them hurriedly entered the academy's front lobby and ascended the stairs in the next room onto the second floor. In their curriculum it was said that their homeroom class would be on the second floor, located slightly underneath the north-eastern wing, classroom 207.
On their way there turning left to proceed straight into a long hallway, a silhouette that was painfully familiar stood there, leaning towards the wall with one of his feet kicked up against it.
"Nagisa! Old friend! Glad you could make it!" A cunning Miyuki smiled and wrapped his arm around Nagisa's neck all buddy-like.
"I have missed you for the past year! My sleep schedule was miserable, I got kept up at night thinking you might not make it here," he smugly smiled.
"And who might this be?" Chisa questioned.
Miyuki turned to Chisa. The three of them silently walked to class, choosing to ignore Miyuki. He chose to look at her emblem, it had a jade color, a different kind of green to indicate she was at Stage-2.
"Oh-ho! A fellow noble, why do you hang around this lot?" Miyuki kept his smile.
Chisa turned around to halt for a second and gave him credits for being persistent, then a sterned cold gaze.
"Do you mind? I am going to be late for class, and the two of you clearly do not seem buddy-like!" Chisa tried telling him off.
This made Miyuki laugh out loud and clap his hands and the clock rang twice loudly. They headed inside and Miyuki looked at the teacher.
"I found them in the corridor, managed to bring them almost right on time!"
He cunningly smiled, it was clear he had been here before and left to wait for them in the hallway.
"Very well, now please take your seats," Chitose informed them.
It was our first supervisor, apparently she was to become our headteacher.
"See you after class?" Miyuki patted Nagisa on the shoulder and kept his smile before he sat down next to Daiki with Ayato and Sakai right behind them.
All four of them laughed while Nagisa passed right by them. The classroom was pretty standard, just like the one back home, desks, chairs, whiteboard, everything appeared ordinary.
Nagisa assumed his seat much like in the old days, all the way in the back row, left next to the window and Chisa chose to sit next beside him. Everyone in his old class, and some neighbouring classes turned their heads, it was quite a large classroom, at least sixty students were here. No one believed in a girl that pretty nor a noble would sit willingly next to a "failure".
They were part of a class they called MK201, and they had two neighbouring classes being MK202 and MK203. The neighbouring classes from back home totaled to around little over than a hundred students, it appeared with nobles and other children. The three classes were around one hundred and eighty students in total, split into three larger classes.
The teacher began explaining on the whiteboard the schedule for today. It consisted of a tour around the academy, lunch and a small introduction before class would fully commence from tomorrow and onwards. Her full name was listed on the board as well.
"Now arise, and follow me please," Ms. Miura told the class.
She had informed the class it was alright for them to call her Chitose. In this world, Ashen, formalities were less common unless you were a noble or of royalty background. Academically speaking, most teachers were students here, practicing their own magic and did not want to appear too old.
Chitose was in her early twenties and had beautiful long azure hair and clear cerulean eyes. She was about Nagisa's height and had a crimson badge pinned to a dress-like uniform attire.
The class ventured all the way back to the first floor, and she first introduced them to the library. Chisa and Nagisa followed closely in front, it was something he had learned. If you keep up to the front, it is harder for them to do something all the way in the back, away from the teachers' eyes of attention.
"Moving on, we are going to explore a few other areas," Chitose moved things along.
Every wing had a large terrace, those were common to practice magic leisurely against the stationed dummies or for one to have lunch outside. Inside, there were sparring rooms on every floor and a lot of all kinds of classes.
"A lot of the classes are students specific, they may belong to a specific student, much like an office, self-study or the group you will form in the future to be tasked whenever Rift Portals open up," Chitose explained why a lot of the classrooms were barely filled or empty.
"Apart from the library, the lunch cafeteria and your home classroom, dating to the time you receive your own room or rooms, your time will mostly be spent in a single classroom, and then mainly outside practicing," Chitose turned around and walked straight ahead.
Before heading back down to the main lobby, they went all the way up to the fifth floor to bow and let the principal Ito Ozora introduce himself briefly before they took their leave.
Proceeding outside of the academy, they walked now to the left, towards the middle of the western side. There were multiple areas stationed for all kinds of practice.
A large forest area, countless empty ones with stationed dummies and even rooms outside for booking if one wanted absolute privacy. The forest area and the booking rooms were said to hold holograms of demons and other things for one to practice all kinds of combat and training.
All the way north-west of the academy was both the official academy battleground, a large building and on the inside it looked like a mini colosseum. East of that, the most northern point of the academy, lastly there was the herb garden, where one could study the different effects of potions and herbs.
They had both a glasshouse and one covered with a roof of identical size next to it. Direct sun or complete darkness caused all kinds of attributes even in the same plants, it was something Nagisa had discovered while browsing random books back at the library to find any type of information regarding herbology.
"Herbology is important, it may enhance your magic abilities if you concoct the right vials. However be warned, each potion has a different effect on every single individual. Therefore they are tailored towards a single person based on their magic molecular structure," Chitose carefully explained and Nagisa was already hooked.
Maybe here, he could finally discover a cure for Risa. They headed back to their classroom shortly after and sat down.
"Your class is named, MK201, can anyone tell me why?" Chitose asked and May rose her hand then stood up to answer.
"MK stands for Magical Knights, and that is what the academy is training us to become," May provided the correct explanation.
Chitose nodded for a well told response and May sat back down.
"Since the nobles did not have to take the entry exam, and some points were found lacking in others, I am going to explain some of the basics," Chitose took out a pen that emitted some kind of aura, it was clearly enchanted.
"The most important thing is knowing what Stage you are currently at, both in your offense and defense," Chitose drew two circles and formed a venn diagram.
"In the middle is something you would call your mana tap and current potential," she drew a clear x-mark was drawn in the middle where the two circles intersect.
"Not only do you need the mana required in order to enchant your body and weapon, but you also need it for the ability to break into the next stage to do so," Chitose continued to draw on the whiteboard.
"Now, here are the more important things. To keep up the enchantment, you burn a constant rate of mana, meaning you are not invincible even if you do not take any hits. However most people have an excess of influx mana and can keep their enchantments upwards to ten minutes or even to above an hour at higher Stages," Chitose moved on to the more advanced points.
"Therefore you would constantly need to find a way, not only to prevent fatiguing yourself while having your enchantments active, but also to increase your individual mana pool. This is important to keep the enchantments active without taxing your body, and also to have a surplus to try and advance into their next Stage which will opt up the mana usage over time," Chitose finally concluded.
May raised her hand and Chitose gave her the word.
"If your shield breaks, I read it is hard to recover the enchantment, but it is possible, do you mind explaining it in further detail?" May sat back down and Miyuki gave her a thumbs up.
Leave it to the school idol to ask the things everyone wants to know.
"It is… however once your shield breaks, you will most likely suffer mana depletion. If you have any mana to spare, it might even be hard to find a single second in combat to recall the enchantment…" Chitose paused.
"Although if you have a clear excess, which many nobles, royalties or prodigies have that is not all too uncommon, you may have reserves for one or two more shields. It all depends if you find a couple of seconds to recover ground and enchant during battle," Chitose fully answered.
Both Daiki and Miyuki smiled, then turned and looked back to face Nagisa for the briefest moment. The last remark clearly hinted that their mana pools were superior to his, and they were not wrong.
Nagisa could only keep his Wind enchantments up for about a couple minutes or so, and trained every day to try and increase it. This topic was not unfamiliar to him, after all, he had scored a perfect mark on the test.
"How about manifesting magic abilities outwards!" Miyuki loudly asked and tilted back in his chair in an aloof fashion.
Chitose chose to ignore his behaviour for a second, she already figured out that he belonged to the Kanno family just by Daiki sitting next to him and that both of their emblems had the jade color indicating their Stage-2.
"It is something you can do even at Stage-0, however manifesting outwards taxes the body even further, especially if you cannot tap into the World Magic surrounding you and combine it with your own that is inside of you," A new explanation began taking place by Chitose.
"For instance," Chitose held out her hands.
< Liquify >
Water began forming into a glass and then drops of water filled the glass. Chitose then reshaped the water into a bunny that ran through the entire classroom and finished back above Miyuki's head, dispersing and drenching him in water. People held their wanted laughter.
"And next time, raise your hand in my classroom," Chitose turned around towards the whiteboard.
Miyuki villainously smirked.
"Will do, and thanks for the drink, it quenched my thirst," Miyuki smugly responded.
Both him and Daiki leaned in to one another.
"So that is the one?" Miyuki asked.
Daiki nodded and explained further in whispers to Miyuki. Chitose further explained another couple of things people have missed which were substantially more elementary. How to enchant both ways, offensive and defensive. How to tap into World Magic. Basic training and other common things. Nagisa looked out the window with his right hand placed on his cheek and Chisa tugged away at his shirt.
"Does this bore you?" Chisa leaned over.
Nagisa nodded slowly.
"Well… you did score a perfect mark, nothing is really new to you here, is it?" Chisa tilted her head upwards and put a finger on her right cheek.
The clock ran a final time, and Chitose clapped her hands together.
"Remember, classes will resume fully tomorrow and on Friday, your first sparring will take place. So therefore select a practice partner and then a random or willing one will spare you for the second round after warm up," Chitose announced the important event coming up.
Nagisa remained in the classroom and Chisa stared at him.
"Let's go!" Chisa pulled him out of his chair and Chitose looked over.
"Please exit the classroom, I have other things I need to take care of, so it can be magically locked after you leave," Chitose urged politely and they took their leave.
"Why are you spacing out all of the sudden?" Chisa asked Nagisa as they walked down the hallway, only to rendezvous with a couple of familiar faces.
Sakai that had brown hair and eyes stood there waiting with Ayato who had blue hair and yellow eyes. Not to mention two much more familiar faces both with red hair and red eyes, apart from Miyuki having a hint of yellow at the bottom of his.
The four of them were all a bit taller than Nagisa, however Miyuki who was about an inch taller walked up first to him, just like in the morning.
"Nagisa… you know that I hate being kept waiting? After all, today is when all of us are finally reunited! Even Daiki here told me all about your exam, a pitiful mere "3"at the end," Miyuki was slick how he worded things.
All of them slightly snickered but Miyuki signaled them to quiet down.
"Now how about you tell your good old friend Miyuki how you managed to score perfectly at the second exam, I cannot have Daiki here, die by curiosity or fail my new friend now, can I?" Miyuki cracked his knuckles and rolled his fists.
It was to slightly indicate forcefully that it was better for Nagisa to provide him with a response. Chisa chose to swiftly unsheathe her sword and point it towards Miyuki's throat who immediately grinned, and had him take a step back, away from Nagisa.
"Really now, you are going to have a noble girl stand up and fight your battles?" Miyuki kept his smug expression.
This made the group laugh even further. Miyuki gladly unsheathed his sword ever so slightly before putting it back in.
"You have until Friday, do not disappoint me, Nagisa," Miyuki turned around and walked away.
The group followed, cunningly grinning before turning their heads and laughing alongside with Miyuki as they exited the corridor to head downstairs. Nagisa sighed and looked angrily at Chisa.
"How about a thank you? And you are welcome!" Chisa irritably fussed.
"I cannot stand guys like them! Always disliked the Kannos anyway!" she added.
Nagisa shook his head before intently stared at Chisa.
"You have only made things worse!" Nagisa stated outright.
