It's been a week now. I haven't moved in to my new home nor have I met the mayor yet. Julie said he's been very busy lately. At this point, I don't care. I just want to leave as soon as possible. Why? Because every time I move around her house, I end up meeting Austin. And it's frustrating.
Still awkward between us. Our conversations are very dull. And I hate how he keeps looking at me. I'm like a rabbit stuck in a cage with a damn hawk. Just waiting for me to make a move or it making a move. God it's annoying. The one time I feel relieved is when he leaves. But then it got me wondering...where does he sleeps?
I asked Julie but she tries to avoid the question. Like she really didn't want to tell me. I also asked her what's her relations with Austin. She told me she's his guardian. Took him in when he was a little kid. Lived with her and helped her with chores. Then I asked if he lives here too...she didn't say anything after that.
I suppose it's non of my business to want to know more of their living situation but it did got me curious. It's annoying and frustrating with him around me but I somehow want to know more and more about him. Something is very wrong with me.
Julie went to her day job and Austin left early in the morning to his job. He came by for breakfast and went his way. So I'm alone in the house.
*Knock Knock*
Or so I thought. I opened the door and saw a face I really didn't want to see...it's the officer, Tom.
"Heyo. I'm not interrupting am I?" He said with a friendly atmosphere. But I ain't buying it.
"What you want." I said not having what he has to say. He could tell I was angry with him but he press on.
"Look. I- well you see." He sighed. Not sure what to say. He pulled over his backpack and took out a container. It smelled good. He handed it to me. "I know we haven't started off good, but I will want to apologise with my actions. So here." I opened the container and the smell went over my nose. It smelled so good that my mouth was about to water.
"What is it?" I asked curiously.
"It's a special recipe my mother and grandmother makes for people who are carrying. You know. With child."
"I get it....is it drugged?" I asked still suspicious of him. He chuckled.
"If it was, then you wouldn't be standing now would you." He said with a smile. I looked at him with a serious face which made him laugh. He patted my shoulder and let himself in. The hell.
"Hey wait-" I tried to stop him but he started to lay down on the floor in the living room. "Hey. I don't live here and I haven't-"
"I know. I just wanted to." He said. This guy. I set the food on the small table. He sat up. "I also wanted to apologise on behalf of my daughter." I sat down on the floor too.
"She's not here with you?" I said to him. I bet she didn't want to on her own. Brat.
"Nah. She's at school. Plus she wouldn't even if I asked her. She's," he thought a moment, "Too prideful. Heh just like her dad. Stubborn too. Like me." He took a breath. It was like he was nervous. "That day when we were supposed to find you, it was one of our play days. We go over the top sometimes."
"That was your play days? Almost like an assault to me." I said.
"Oh no. When she found you? That was real. She really doesn't like you. And I sometimes take her side. Which I will apologise again. And also being rough on you too. Their is no excuse for that. Sorry." He kept on apologizing.
"Ok ok I get. Still mad about it but I get it. Stop apologizing. It's creeping me out." I said. He smiled. It became quiet.
"How long are you due?" He asked to keep the conversation going. I placed my hand on my growing tummy.
"About half way their." I replied.
"Congratulations."
"Thanks..."
"...You know Austin and I are dating."
"WHAT!!!!" I exclaimed. He laughed and I looked at him confused. Then I realized he was kidding.
"What? Don't look at me like that. It's so goddamn quiet here. I just wanted to lighten up the mood." Tom kept laughing.
"Your so weird!" I told him. Tom brushed it off. "If it's so quiet, why don't you leave then."
"Why?" Tom said. I was going to respond to that then I remembered how that ended up with his daughter. I hold myself back. He poked my arm and kept asking why. I got angry and hit him with a nearby pillow.
"Is that how you treat your guest. How rude." Tom said mischievously.
"Your the one being rude! Letting yourself in, who fucking does that!"
"Well you didn't invite me in. So~"
"Get the hell out of here." I told him. Tom chuckled more and nodded ok. He got up and started to head out. I followed him making sure he does.
He stopped halfway. "My..." He was about to say something but he brushed it off. Told me if he want more of what he gave me, just come by. I shut the door behind him. What was he going to say before?
"Whatever." I walked back to the living room and took a bite of the food Tom gave me. It's not that bad. Then later I realized it was all gone. "...Shit....it was good." And I wanted more.
Austin's POV
"Big bro Oz!" I turned and saw little Abby heading my way.
"Already out of school?" I asked her.
"And you already out of jail?" She said as she crossed her arms together. I messed with her hair by her rude remarks.
"How was school?"
"Ok. Learning something old everyday. I don't think they will ever gave me a challenge. Everything is just too easy. And I already know how to do it. It's boring."
"I have no idea what you feel." I said. She looked at me with a smirky smile. I laughed. "Your just smart, Abby. Even smarter then me."
"Oh was that supposed to be a compliment."
"Hey I'm trying to me supportive." We both smiled. She started to walk with me down the road.
"Where's Standly?" She asked.
"He's at the stables. He's trying to impress a new arrival."
"Oh! He's in love~" she said.
"Something like that."
"Are you jealous?" She poked me.
"I am not. He's just living his life and looking for a partner to spend it with."
"Like you?" She said. I stopped and my face turn red.
"Wha- wha- what made you said that?" I said nervously. "I'm not looking. And if I am it wouldn't be Chris. I mean I just met the guy. Hahaha yeah. We just met hahaha and we haven't done anything. Like nothing. Like nada. Like- like-.... let's just changed the subject!"
"....Oz....your a terrible liar." She said with a straight face. I looked away and know she is right. Damn it. "You like like Chris." My world went blank. Then my face went completely red again.
"I- I- ah." I couldn't find an excuse for that. She's hitting me with words that I can't dodge from.
"It's ok. Everybody knows. Even daddy. That's why he's going to visit him. That low life guy."
"EVERYBODY KNOWS!!!" I placed my hands on my head and kneel down. How did they know?
She patted my back. "There there." She said trying to make me feel better. Then I realized something. I stood up quick which shocked Abby.
"YOUR DAD IS VISITING CHRIS!!" I shockingly said. She nodded worryingly. I picked her up and I started to run to Julie's place. We made it and I opened the door without knocking. I looked around and saw no one home. Did they went out? Did he took him hostage? What did he do to him? My mind went elsewhere and I forgotten all about Abby. "Oh shit! Abby!"
"I'm here." She said. I was still holding her. I placed her down and apologize. She patted my head again. "There there."
After I cooled down, I took her home. I became too embarrassed to talk about what happened back their. Abby stayed silent on our way to her house. Holding my hand. Then she hold it tight. I looked at her. She looked upset. And...sad.
"You ok, Abby?" I said to her. She didn't respond. "Abby?" She looked up only realizing I was talking to her. "You ok?" She looked away.
"Have....have you ever loved someone?" Her question shocked me. "Big bro Oz?"
"I mean...I don't know?"
"Does it hurt when you do?" She said. I could see she was in pain. I didn't know how to talk with her with this.
"Abby...I...I don't know." She looked in more pain. "I'm sorry." I hate not able to help my friend.
"I don't want to go home." She whispered. She hold my hand tighter. Oh Abby.
"Let's go to Aunt Maya's place. I heard she's making her famous stew. I know how much you like it." She didn't respond. "Come on. It's going to be fun." We both change our directions to Maya's place.
Back To Chris
"So...how you liking it?" Tom asked me.
"It's...ok."
"That's your 5th bowl." Tom said. I looked at the table and counted the bowls. I looked at him and looked at the bowls.
"No it's not."
"Oh come on! You know you like it! Why you being so stubborn about it!"
"Get off my back! I could have has many of your stupid fawndos whatever I want!" I kept eating it.
"Your going to get fat." Tom said.
"I'M ALREADY FAT!!!" I started to cry and eat the delicious fawndos. That's what he calls them. They look like a form of an oatmeal and every bite taste so good.
"Ok you had enough." Tom tried to take away my bowl. I smack his hand with the spoon and hold the bowl with my life. Then I started to hiss at him. Tom stepped back like I was some crazy wild animal.
I came to my senses and started to put the bowl down. "I think...I should get back. It's getting late." I said.
"Yeah. And I should go and pick up my daughter. Geana texted me and said she's at her mom's place. It's stew day."
"...what kind of stew?"
"You know what. I should take you back. Making sure you don't terrorize someone else's food." Tom grabbed his jacket and helped me with my jacket.
"I don't know what came over me." I said.
"Don't worry. I know how you feel. I'll make you more once you've collected yourself."
"Yeah.....I would understand if you never make it again."
"Don't worry. I never will." Tom said.
Tom took me back and Julie was waiting for us. Tom told her about the fawndos and how obsessed I was with it. Julie knows how they can do to a pregnant person.
"Here you go." Julie said giving me a cup of water. I thanked her. Tom already left to pick up his daughter. "I have great news." I listened. "Your home is ready to move in. We can help you pack."
"We?" I said curiously.
"Austin and I will help." I chocked on my water. Julie got worried and gave me a napkin. "Are you ok?"
"Yeah *cough* I'm fine. I'm just excited."
"Well I am too but please don't get too excited."
"Yes ma'am."
Oh come on! Really! Do I have to deal with this crap. Goddamn this world.
"Oh shoot." Julie said. I looked up and saw her looking at her phone. "I have to get back to work."
"Already? What happened?" I asked
"It's just more paper work that needs to be done. I won't be done til morning so don't worry about me. We still have some leftovers from yesterday that you can eat for dinner. Be sure to wash up before you eat. Don't forget to wash your dish once you've finished eating. Oh! And take out the trash before you go to bed. See you in the morning." She surprisingly hugged me. Which caught me off guard. She said her goodbyes and left back to work.
".....ok....."
Two hours has passed since. I started to get hungry so I microwave the leftovers she made yesterday and ate it while I was watching TV in the living room. Nothing good on TV in the night. I keep changing the channel yet nothing good is showing up. Then I heard a big bam at the door. I got scared for a moment. I walked by the door holding anything that I could defend myself with. (Which turned out to be the pillow.) God I'm lame. I heard some low moaning by the door. Who in the hell is at the door? The door opened suddenly and I saw who it was. Our eyes meet.
"Austin." I gazed into his eyes. We haven't been this close for a long time. I remember those moments we had together that night. That feeling. That longing. I couldn't forget them. No matter how hard I tried. I miss him. I miss him so much.
"Chris." He lean forward. His face getting closer and closer to mine. I held my breath. My heart beating close to my ears. His breath tickled my skin. But the smell.....it smelled like...I pushed him away.
"Austin, are you drunk?"
