"Alex how could you do this?"
The question left Alex confused 'Do what? What is she saying? Did I do something else?'
"We'll know now" Alexa said.
Sherry hugged Alex and he was surprised. Didn't he do something wrong? Why was she hugging him instead of scolding him?
"Mom, what is going on?"
"What do you mean?"
"I should be asking you that"
Sherry's voice sounded like she was crying and Alex couldn't help but check. She really was in tears but why? He had no idea.
"Mom why are you crying?"
"How could you awaken without telling us and the first thing you do is run off to a hunting ground"
'So that's what's happening, thank God'
" If she asks any questions about me dodge them" Alexa warned.
'You got it. With the sweet way you just spoke I'll take it that you aren't mad at me anymore'
"I was never mad at you"
"You were acting bitchy all day" Alex forgot he was talking to Alexa and said it out loud, giving his mom and Alice a shock. They thought he was talking to her.
"What did you just say?"
"No, mom, I-I-I didn't mean to say that what I meant was I didn't want you to worry about me so..."
"You just said I was acting bitchy all day" Alexa's voice was in Alex's head and he wasn't sure he liked that.
'Can you be quiet for just one minute and let me talk to my mom in'
"Are you really shutting me up right now?"
'No I'm not shutting you up I just want you to be quiet for a bit "You're literally shutting me up"
'Just let me get myself out of here then we can talk, ok?'
"Alex, you have a lot of explaining to do. Why didn't you tell us when you discovered that you had awakened? Moreover, you were training behind our backs"
"I'm sorry mom, I wanted to keep this a secret and tell you later so dad could at least be proud of me. I didn't want to look like a loser if I had awakened abilities and I couldn't use them properly"
"You are one smooth liar"
'Let me focus' "I kind of heard you and dad talking the other night"
"You heard all that?"
"I know he really wanted me to be raider so now that my abilities have finally awakened, I want to become the best raider I can be. I really didn't want anyone to know about this before you guys"
"You can tell that to the media, the whole world knows about you now" Alice said. "And guess what? Here's the cam from the front gate at our house" Alice showed Alex the cctv from the front of their house, leaving him surprised. There were cars and so many people in front of the house. Reporters, guild masters, scouts. Wasn't that too much for someone who just took a raider exam. He wondered why they needed to fight monsters just for the sake of an exam but now he knew. When he felt like he was being watched he was actually being recorded. It was probably the other examinees, if not, they were followed into the hunting grounds by examiners.
"You know what the media's calling you now?"
"What?"
"The golden rookie"
"The golden what now?" Alex was about to laugh but he held it in because of the expression on Alice's face. She was more than just pissed.
"The golden rookie"
"Seriously, who comes up with these names? They've got to stop naming things"
"That's not what we're talking about right now"
"I get it ok. I know I was wrong by not telling you since we tell each other secrets but can't you cut me some slack. I mean I did it for a good reason. I just wanted to surprise mom and dad"
"Still, you could have told me. I guess now that you've got an ability, mom and dad won't mind me beating you up" A deep red energy like blood spun around Alice's hands and they solidified to form ribbons. She shot them at Alex only to stop them when they were about to hit Sherry. Alex was gone. 'Where did he...'
She felt a hand around her shoulders and gasped seeing Alex's face beside hers. She screamed and jumped but was unable to escape from Alex's grip.
"How did you move so quickly?" The surprise showed in the way she talked.
"You just tried to take my head off, didn't you?"
She made her face stoic and pushed Alex's hand off her shoulder. "I wasn't going to decapitate you and why the hell are you so fast? Are you on drugs or something?"
"You could say I'm awakened"
"Oh my God I'm never going to hear the end of this, am I?"
"Not a chance"
Sherry was looking through her phone while Alex and Alice talked and Alexa stayed hidden in his head. She didn't want Alex to know but their dad was on his way to meet Alex and from the way he sounded when he called earlier he was very happy.
"By the way, where are Ethan and Aiden?"
"We already sent them home. They really wanted to see you before they left"
"Alex aren't you forgetting something?"
'No, I just want the right time to leave this place. I can't let my mom or Alice get suspicious, can I?" Alex wanted any excuse to leave the room so he could go out and he and Alexa would split up and they would talk but he couldn't find the right moment. Alice kept firing question after question and so did Sherry. It was like they were trying to keep him there.
"Mom can we talk later I really have to go now"
"You just got back where are you going?"
"Nowhere, I just mean I need to use the bathroom real quick"
"Alex are you sure you're only going to use the bathroom and not going anywhere else?"
"Oh, I forgot I also have to meet up with Alexa. We have a date"
"A date?" Alice asked. It seemed like she suspected something was up "You guys didn't pick any other dates for a date except the day you woke up from your 'coma' and suddenly had the ability to fight very powerful monsters. Is that correct?"
"Are you guys going to let me go or not?"
"Your father wanted to surprise you and told us not to tell you but he's on his way here right now"
"Dad's on his way here?"
"Yes, are you going to make him sad and leave?"
Sherry's phone rang and she picked it immediately. It was David and his voice couldn't be heard well due to so much noise from his end of the call. Alex heard it clearly though.
"Sherry, I can't get into the building. There are people everywhere"
"Honey can you speak louder? I can't hear you, there's too much noise from your end. What's going on?"
"Dad needs help" Alex said and ran out of the room. He sped through the corridor and down, the stairs almost bumping into a doctor and a nurse. He had forgotten that Alexa had only rented the top floor. They both gave looks of surprise which he clearly noticed but he didn't pay any attention to them and continued running to meet David.
Anyone who was in his shoes shouldn't be surprised by the situation he met outside but he was. There were a lot of people gathered there and most were reporters. Since they weren't allowed into the hospital, which was obvious, Alex was surprised that no one had tried to climb up to the top floor yet. The moment he showed his face outside the gate they all washed down on him like a tsunami but he wasn't feeling like interviews today. He lit his hand on fire and created a wall of flames around himself before they got to him.
"Everybody, stay back" He spoke his words in such a cold way that chills were sent down the reporters' spines.
