"Why would you go through all the trouble of killing and marking a simple villager? What are you guys after?" Xander asked.

"My brothers are on their way to the summit of Mount Orion. There, the Noctis Umbrae will reveal the dark rituals sealed in its pages and guide us to our glorious destiny," the ghoulish monstrosity muttered through tightly clenched teeth.

"Why do you need to ascend the mountain to read the book?" Xander questioned back.

"Because the Noctis Umbrae only reveals its secrets when the crescent moon bathes the snowy head of the Old King with blood. The dark rituals inscribed in its pages cannot be deciphered without sacrificing a pair of black lambs to the twin Deities," the abomination replied.
