Chapitre 36: Working Together
Xu Anyi returned home and once she opened the door, Si Mu appeared at the doorway, "Where did you go?"
"I went to try and find some modeling jobs. . ." She looked down and sighed, "But all of them rejected me."
Si Mu frowned, immediately realizing something was wrong.
"But they didn't even let me audition. They all rejected me after seeing my name," Xu Anyi looked up, and their eyes met. She didn't have to say more and she knew that he had understood and probably thought the same as her.
He nodded and lifted one arm up, patting her on the head in a comforting way as he led her into the house, "Why did you go alone? Didn't I tell you I will be your manager? I will find a job for you."
Xu Anyi looked up at him and smiled.

The next day, Si Mu fulfilled his promise and had found a job for her by breakfast.
"There is a small business under the Si Corporation that is working with Design, and they need a model for the upcoming spring clothing line."
Xu Anyi's eyes widened as she recognized the brand Design. It was a luxury clothing line that has been rising in popularity right now, and it was probably one of the most famous luxury brands in Country Z at the moment.
"Really? When is the audition?"
Si Mu looked at her with a hint of surprise, and then he smiled, "Audition? I already spoke to them about it. The first meeting is tomorrow at Design's headquarters, you just need to go."
Xu Anyi put down her fork and blew him a kiss, "Husband, you're the best!"
Si Mu gulped and turned his head down as he continued to eat to hide the blush that had appeared over his face.

The next day, Xu Anyi arrived at the headquarters for Design and looked up at the enormous building. She took a deep breath and stepped in, seeing the workers rushing around on the first floor.
"I'm Xu Anyi," she said, her heartbeat speeding up slightly as she awaited the front desk worker's reaction to hearing her name. Although she knew Si Mu had it all settled, she was still afraid from being rejected so many times.
"Oh, you must be the new model! Please follow me."
Xu Anyi let out a breath of relief as she followed the worker into the elevator and up to the second floor, where she was led into a large meeting room.
"Manager Xi, the new model is here."
Xu Anyi stepped into the room and saw a middle-aged man seated in the front of a large table, and he stood up upon seeing her.
The man looked her up and down, and his blank expression broke into a smile, "Ms. Xu, nice to meet you!"
He walked over and shook her hand.
The manager nodded as he continued to study her, surprised at how pretty this model was. She was absolutely perfect for the shoot! He knew that she had been picked from outside relations, so he did not have much hopes for this model, but to his surprise, she was more than he could ask for!
After shaking his hand, Xu Anyi looked towards the table, and her eyes widened when she saw two other people seated on the other side of the table.
When they saw her, one of them jumped up from her chair as well, her mouth falling open in shock, "Xu Anyi?!"
Xu Anyi raised an eyebrow, just as surprised to see Xia Yiwei here as she was to see her.
The manager sat back down and Xu Anyi also sat down across from Xia Yiwei, pretending not to know her.
"Do you know our new model, Ms. Xia?" The manager seemed to realize that there was something going on between the two of them, "This is Ms. Xu Anyi, our new model. And this is Ms. Xia Yiwei, who you will be modeling with."
Xu Anyi looked over at Xia Yiwei, surprised that she models for Design as well.
However, Xia Yiwei was more shocked than her, and she jumped up from her chair, "Manager Xi, may I ask where this new model came from?"
The manager frowned, "Where she came from? She was picked."
"H-" Xia Yiwei was just about to ask how when she felt a slight tug on her hand, and she looked down to see her manager shake her head.
Xia Yiwei clenched her fists together and glared at Xu Anyi before slowly sitting down. She had made sure to tell all the major brands to not accept Xu Anyi, and there was no way Xu Anyi could have auditioned for Design.
The manager cleared his throat, "The shoot will be this Saturday here on the second floor at 10 A.M. Understand?"
Both of them nodded and the manager stood up, "Good. I will see you then."
Then, the manager left.
"Xu Anyi, how can you be so shameless?! How did you squeeze your way into here?!" Xia Yiwei immediately jumped up from her chair, glaring at Xu Anyi.
Xu Anyi stood up as well, smiling calmly. She really enjoyed seeing Xia Yiwei upset, "I think we both know who the shameless one is."
She turned around and waved goodbye to her as she walked out the room, "Let's have fun working together!"
After she had left, Xia Yiwei found the nearest thing on the table and threw it across the room. Her manager jumped up and tried to comfort her, "Yiwei, it's okay."
"How?! Didn't I tell you to make sure no company will accept her?!"
The manager looked down, "I did. The whole industry knows, I don't know how this happened! But. . . Yiwei, maybe this is a good thing. Think about it. She has been in prison for five years already, she is no threat to you. You two can model together, and she obviously won't be as professional as you. The comparison will only make her look bad."
Xia Yiwei's breathing calmed down slightly as she thought about it, "That's true. . . But I still don't want to work with her!"
She grabbed onto her bag and marched out of the room, her manager following closely behind her, "Yiwei, where are we going?"
Xia Yiwei clicked on the elevator button as she crossed her arms together, "Yuzhe's company!"

"Yuzhe!" Xia Yiwei called in her high-pitched voice as she grabbed onto his arm, "I just don't want to work with her. She has no experience at all!"
Lu Yuzhe pinched the area of skin in between his eyebrows and sighed, "Okay, I will talk to the manager. Design, right?"
Xia Yiwei nodded and then leaned in, kissing him on the cheek, "Thank you, Yuzhe!"
Lu Yuzhe sighed and patted her on the head, "Go home now. I'll be home soon."
Xia Yiwei nodded obediently and grabbed her bag, turning around to look at him multiple times as she walked out of the room.
After she was gone, Lu Yuzhe called his assistant into the room and told his assistant to call the manager of Design. However, a few minutes later, his assistant walked back into the room.
"Is it solved?"
"The manager told me that the model was picked and cannot be replaced," the assistant said with his head down.
Lu Yuzhe looked up from his computer and frowned, "Give me the phone. I'll speak to him myself."
The assistant dialed a number and handed the phone over to him. After a few rings, the other side picked up.
"I told you I can't-"
"Hello?" Lu Yuzhe cut the other side off, "This is Lu Yuzhe speaking. Are you the manager of Design?"
There was a pause and then, "Ah! It's President Lu! Yes, yes. I am Xi Penli, the marketing manager of Design. Is there anything I can help you with?"
"I heard from Yiwei that there is a new model for Design. . ."
"Yes, yes. The next shoot needs two models, so we picked another model to work with Ms. Xia."
"I heard this model isn't experienced at all."
The manager chuckled nervously, "Yes, but she is very suitable for the shoot."
Lu Yuzhe frowned slightly, "Yiwei doesn't want to work with her. Can you do me a favor and switch her out?"
The manager paused for a second, and you could hear his heavy breathing, "Well. . . You see, President Lu, I can't switch her out."
Lu Yuzhe frowned, "She is just a small model, I will find another better model for you."
Manager Xi shut his eyes and knit his eyebrows together. Of course he knew that. . . But there was another large figure behind that small model.
Lu Yuzhe could tell that Manager Xi wasn't convinced, and he tapped his finger against the table before slowly adding, "Manager Xi, I want to thank you for always taking care of Yiwei. If you help me with this, I will definitely reward you. . . I think would 10k be a good amount."
Manager Xi's eyes burst open and he wanted to agree, but at the thought of the person who had contacted him about Xu Anyi, he immediately knew who he was more afraid of.
"President Lu, thank you very much. It is my pleasure to work with Ms. Xia. . . However, I really can't do anything about the new model. Do not worry, of course I will continue to take care of Ms. Xia. The new model will only be a backdrop for Ms. Xia."
Lu Yuzhe's frown deepened as he narrowed his eyes. He did not respond for several seconds and the silence made Xi Penli's skin crawl.
Finally, Lu Yuzhe replied coldly, "Okay," and then he hung up.
Lu Yuzhe tossed his phone onto the table and sat in silence for a while. Xu Anyi was only a small model and although she was pretty, there was no way Xi Penli would risk offending him just for a small model. . .
So, there had to be something going on.
Xu Anyi. . .
Lu Yuzhe narrowed his eyes.
