Chapitre 42: WAY BACK HOME

The train was moving fast, speeding on the tracks. Rafael was on that train back to the capital. It takes two hours to back home.

Rafael looked out the window. The rain was pouring hard enough, accompanied by a cold wind. Create a window covered in water droplets. The man enjoyed his journey back home. Although he didn't know what feelings were growing in his heart right now, Rafael realized that he just wanted to meet Jasmine, his wife.

[Jasmine,] Raphael thought. He twisted the base of his ring finger. There was no longer a ring there. Rafael did not understand the meaning of the ring until now he realized that he had lost the symbol of the sacred bond of marriage.

7:00 p.m.

Not long in his daydream, Rafael felt the presence of several people who continued to stare at him. Someone cover his face with newspapers. Someone was standing holding on to the back of Rafael's chair. The last one listens to the headset while chewing gum. The three of them didn't dare move for a second. They fear that Rafael would disappear again, just like this afternoon.

[ Damn it! Why didn't they give up? Who are they? Why do they keep following me?!] thought Rafael. Inside the moving train, Rafael had no choice but to wait until the station.

But apparently, Raphael chose another path. His curiosity made Rafael so curious about the figure behind them. Who was their boss? What did he want from a man without a past like him?

[ Did they know that I was a hitman?] Thought Rafael, he swallowed hard. If everything were revealed, Jasmine would know. How disappointed would Jasmine be when she finds out the truth about him?

Rafael got up from the chair. The man walked towards the corridor of the train. His destination was the bathroom which is located at the very back end of the train. As Rafael had expected, as soon as he got up, the three of them went too.

[They're watching me.] Rafael let out a long sigh. [I can't hold my curiosity anymore.]

Rafael washed his face in the supermini sink. The bathroom was very narrow. Imagine the closet, mirror, and sink can fit in one cubicle. Of course, the size is very minimalist.

"Ok! Bring it on!" Rafael muttered, ready to fight.

Rafael's guess was correct. As soon as the door was opened, a man with a stout body and short hair pushed him back into the narrow room. The sliding door closed again. Two of his colleagues guarded the toilet door as if they were waiting in line.

Rafael held the man's blow with his bare hands. The fight in the cramped room was inevitable. The man added strength to his fist. Rafael was still holding the fist until his forehead wrinkled.

"Who are you? Why are you after me?" asked Raphael.

"You don't need to know," he answered, their hands clasped together. One attacks the other holds back.

After all, Rafael is a trained ex-soldier. Although his body is not as big as that man's, it is inevitable that his strength cannot be underestimated. Rafael pushed the man towards the sink, smashing the athletic body into the mirror. The mirror cracked, Rafael immediately hit his knee several times hard into the man's stomach. The elbow of Rafael's arm immediately blocked a scream of pain.

"Who told you to?" Raphael repeated his question.

"Fuck!!" The man tried to turn things around.

"Answer!!!" Raphael urged, his eyes gleaming with anger.

"Why tell someone who was going to die today?!" The man mustered up the strength to kick Rafael in the groin, but Rafael managed to hold the leg just right. Rafael's hand grabbed the broken glass. He scratched it on his opponent's neck. Blood came out, not much because Rafael didn't want to kill him, just bluffing.

"Who?" asked Raphael.

"Damn it!!" he cursed. Sweat began to trickle down on that man's temples. Still shut his mouth. It seems that he is very loyal to his superiors. It is even better to die than to divulge the master's secret.

"If I slit the aorta in your neck for 5 cm, with an estimate of 5 liters of human blood, I guarantee you will die of agony within 30 minutes of bleeding." Raphael threatened. The man was scared but didn't make a sound.

"There are still two of your friends if you don't want to give information. You're of no use to me at all." Rafael pressed the edge of the glass, deeper.

"Then just kill me!" The man took Rafael's hand and slid the glass down his throat. Blood spurted to Raphael's face. It makes it drenched in red liquid. The man choked, his eyes narrowed, and then collapsed, limp, and finally died.

"Damn it!" cried Rafael. He quickly wiped the blood with the sink water. His hands were shaking violently. There was no intention to kill this man. He just wanted to know who the mastermind was. Now Rafael must figure out how to get out of this dire situation, or his name will be revealed if caught. He didn't want to know what Jasmine will think of him. Her husband is a murderer.

Rafael banged on the sink counter in annoyance. He pulled the man's belt and wrapped it around his palm. It must be pretty painful to get punched with the iron buckle.

"OK! Next!" There was no longer any chance to escape. If this one were willing to die for the sake of his master, they would undoubtedly be the same way.

SLID!! The sliding door opened. The two male colleagues were surprised to find that it was not their partner who came out but their prey.

The two looked at each other for a moment. Rafael looked up sharply as he looked around the carriage. The passengers were still asleep. They choose to sleep to pass the time. Because not only passengers who stop in the capital. There are many other passengers with more distant destinations.

The sound of the train engine colliding with the rails sounded quite loud. The gurgling sound mixed with the cold air from the torrential rain made passengers reluctant to wake up.

"Shh...!" Rafael gave a code with his index finger placed above his lips.

The two men nodded. They started watching Rafael move out onto the balcony between the carriages. The rain immediately fell on the three of them. Rafael did not feel cold. He instead mounted a stance, waiting to see who attacked first.

The two exchanged glances giving each other a code to attack Rafael. They also mounted their stances. The movement of the train threw their balance into chaos. Coupled with a slippery floor due to water and wind. Rafael didn't budge. He didn't even blink. His eyes focused on the dim light.

"Hey!!!" The first man immediately attacked Rafael. He was hiding a knife behind his body. Rafael dodged, the blade grazing his arm. Fresh blood dripped from Rafael's arm. But washed with rainwater.

"Shit!" Rafael kicked the hand —which was holding the knife — of the man. The blade was thrown into the air.

BUMP!! Rafael immediately retaliated against the man, hitting him with his hand wrapped with a buckle. His nose was broken, fresh blood gushing from the man's nostrils. It didn't stop there. Rafael pulled the headset cord and wrapped it around the enemy's neck.

"Don't wear something that can become a weapon for your enemy. Haven't you ever learned that?" Raphael gripped him tighter.

"Eek....!" He choked.

"God damn it!" His comrade stepped forward, also drew a knife behind Rafael's back. But Rafael is not stupid. His instincts as a fighter have been honed in the past. Raphael bowed quickly. The knife stabbed into his partner's back.

"Ahh!!" A scream of pain was heard. Rafael nudged the man who stabbed his comrade. He stumbled a few steps. Now it's one on one.

They face each other. Heavy rain is still pouring. Accompanied by the roar of thunder and flashes of light.

"Who told you to? Why does he want me to die?" asked Raphael.

"I won't tell you!!"

"Does he have the name Wijaya? Leonardo or Lexandro? Or maybe Alexandro?" asked Rafael. He only knew those names from Albert.

"Find the answer in hell!!" The man drew his knife again. Rafael swiftly dodged. He clings to the railing and jumps, then twists his jump and kicks his opponent's back. His opponent immediately swayed, his body crashing into the barrier as well. He almost fell if he didn't hit the iron barrier.

"Say who?!" Rafael started to push forward. Suddenly, the train made a sharp turn, making both of their sways. Rafael balances himself while the person tumbles and falls.

"AAAKKHHH!!!" The screams of pain were heard again.

"Fuck!!" Rafael cursed. After everything he'd been through on the way home, Rafael didn't even get any answers.
