Sara returned after work hours and headed straight for her bed. Her mind is still reeling on what transpired between her and Alex. That kiss should never have happened then she wouldn't have had to leave early to avoid her boss and other employees as if appearing before them would enable them to automatically know that she and their boss have kissed.
A small blush crept on her cheeks, thinking about the kiss again. Was she so starved of love that she was now appreciating his lips and imagining the kiss again?
"Get yourself together, Sara. remember your promise to yourself," she chided herself. He is Adam's uncle, for goodness sake." she added, but still the red tint on her cheeks remained.
"Damn it," she cursed, throwing a pillow to the floor in frustration.
Rising up, she went through her bag, searching for her phone. Multiple missed calls from Anne, Sandra, and even from Jessa, too."Sorry I couldn't talk earlier, girls," she muttered to herself. Dialing the number with the most missed calls, she was soon greeted with the voice of Anne. "hey girl…" she sounded excited, and a man's voice could be heard in the background. The thought to hang up crossed her mind, but before she could do that, Sandra's voice reached her too.
"Is that Sara or Jess?" Sandra asked.
"Are you two drinking?" Sara asked. She had failed to notice it in Anne's voice before, but she got it in Sandar's. Those two were drinking.
"Of course we. You and Jessa stood us up. You won't even answer your damn phones," Anne replied, and Saera facepalmed.
Did they forget that unlike them, she and Jessa had to work to earn a living? "Alright, we are sorry to have neglected you. Where are you? I'll come to you immediately," she asked.
"SHOTS,"Sandra piped in before Anne could even reply.
"Of all the places that you could have gone, why there?" Sara couldn't help but ask. The fact that they were tere meant that they did plan to drink and the day was still so young, what were they thinking?
"We are waiting, girl…" Anne shouted as if the phone was not close enough to her and required shouting.
Sara pulled the phone away from her ear while shaking her head in disbelief. Maybe this was what she needed. A drink to stop thinking about her boss and the kiss.

Alex sat in his study, watching out the window as the sky darkened and a crescent moon slowly crept up the sky. His gaze was distant and unfocused, and many thoughts ran rampant in his head. Taking his eyes off the night sky, his eyes came in contact with his phone as he4 remembered something he had almost forgotten.
A call to Skylar.
Once the call connected, he went straight to the point.
"There was something that you didn't tell me before. What is it?" he asked, and Kai knew not to beat around the bushes.
"There are three forces after her as we speak," he began, and Alex's brow knitted together. "I won't leave hanging and go straight at it. "One is her father who wants her back home and the reason for that you already know. The other is her relatives. They want to get rid of her. And the third, not life threatening but you will still hate it…"Alex' frown deepened.
"What is it?" He asked coldly.
"Dane Scott," he replied, and Alex's expression darkened even more. He didn't want to hear that name, not even in a nightmare, but now he was hearing it, and it had something to do with his woman. "Calm down, Alex. Just hear me out," Kai could more or less guess what was going on in his mind.
"Why is he after her?" Alex finally asked. As much he hated the man whose name that was, he had to know why he was after his woman.
"It has nothing to do with you but an old agreement between the Goldmans and the Scotts. Apparently, there was a marriage agreement, and as the only daughter of Mr Goldman, she is his fiance," Kaia explained, and Alex chuckled. "Something funny?"
"Yes, everything is funny," Alex replied. "Apparently, the universe is against getting together with her. Is that not funny?" He laughed again, and Kai remained silent, not sure how he should respond to that. "Return for now and don't be discovered. I need you here."
"Understood,"Kai replied, and Alex hung up immediately.
"What sort of joke is this?" He asked himself but no answer to it.
He returned to his seat and sat down, opened his laptop, and started writing down plans and ideas. He had to think of a way to keep her safe even after Dane found her. There was no guarantee that he would be able to keep hidden from him for long unless he shoved her into a room and locked her in there, and something like that was simply inhumane.
"First thing is to tell her. But is she ready for it?" he stared at the moon again. She will never be ready for something she has no idea about. He would just have to break it to her and deal with the aftermath as it comes.
Picking his phone again, he thought of calling her but hesitated. She was mad at him earlier. What if she still is?
'Why am I thinking too much about this?' he asked and just made the call. As long as she answers, everything else is fine.
The call connected, and he smiled, inwardly hoping she had gotten over it already.
"Sara…"
"W…ell he…llo, Mr Legend," she slurred, and he frowned. What was going on?
"Where are you?" He stood up and picked his coat. She couldn't be at home because of the noisy background. There were too many voices to be at her place.
"At Shots. Out with the g…urls…" she replied, causing the frown k Alex's face to deepen.
"Stay right there, I am coming to you," he said as he walked out the door, calling the driver right after thathat. "We are leaving," he said to the river and hung up again.
Just what was she doing at a place like. He wasn't sure what that place was, but the name alone didn't give a good impression.
