Chapitre 68: New Home

"Slow down this time, ease into the opening process, and really feel that energy, control it," Max murmured, his tone gentle as he watched Blink lost in contemplation.

His words, soft and comforting, created a tranquil atmosphere, causing Blink to instinctively heed his guidance. With a gradual exhale, she closed her eyes, focusing deeply.

The portal in her palm began to materialize slowly, each flicker of manifestation deliberate, yet it came to an abrupt halt just as it formed, frustration flickering in her closed lids.

"It's alright, take your time," Max reassured, giving Blink a comforting pat.

Blink nodded, taking a moment to gather herself before resuming her practice. Max understood well that success often emerged from a series of trials and errors. Observing Blink's persistence without faltering, he watched attentively from the sidelines, hoping to glean inspiration from her spatial creations.

He noted the difference between Blink's portal and his own. While both aimed to manipulate space, Blink's manifested instantly upon initiation, contrasting with Max's door, which only materialized upon completion. It was akin to finishing a painting before revealing it, Blink's process transparent from the outset.

Though Max undoubtedly favored his own method, he found intrigue in Blink's technique. As she opened her portal, a subtle gravitational force seemed to emanate from its entrance, drawing in wind and lightweight objects. Max observed a fallen leaf being lifted and pulled into the portal, sparking a revelation within him.

Stepping aside, Max entered his dimension, experimenting to sense if there was indeed a gravitational force during the door's construction.

Thus, the two practiced separately, immersed in their respective endeavors.

Time slipped away unnoticed until Max's phone interrupted the silence with its ringtone. Answering the call, he heard Lorna's voice on the other end.

"Come over when you have a moment; someone is asking for you!"

"Got it."

Ending the call, Max informed Blink that she was nearly done with her session. With a pivot, he traversed into another realm, heading straight for the Mutant underground base.

....

Inside the base, the Lauren family sat together, reflecting on the events that transpired from their escape to their subsequent rescue. Amidst the quiet conversation, Max entered, swinging the door wide open to face them directly.

Reid rose to his feet. "Could we speak in private?"

"Let's head up to the rooftop," Max suggested, leading the way.

Max and Reid made their way to the rooftop, seeking a quiet corner for their conversation.

"Lauren briefed us already. Thank you for rescuing our family. Just name your price, and I'll find a way to get you the reward. But..." Reid paused, a hint of uncertainty in his voice. "We might need your help a bit further. Can you assist us in leaving the United States?"

"I can arrange your departure from America, but Lauren wishes to stay," Max responded.

"That won't do. Our family needs to stay together!" Reid insisted firmly.

Max shook his head. "Lauren and Andy possess abilities that can cause significant disruptions. It's why Campbell targeted them. Their powers are unpredictable, and keeping them together could lead to complications. And even if you leave the US, do you think it's safe? Mutant genes could be dormant in everyone, and soon the world may turn against mutants. There's no sanctuary; it's just a matter of time."

"With me, Lauren can have some level of security. The SSS is aware of their situation. If Andy is captured, there's a chance to rescue him before any harm comes to him."

"The world is on the brink of change. Strength is what matters!" Max's words hung in the air, leaving Reid torn between reason and emotion.

"We'll need time to consider," Reid finally said, the decision weighing heavily on him.

"Of course, but I won't return until you've decided," Max stated before leaving promptly.

After chatting with Lorna, Sonia, and others, Max checked in with the sage, learning of increased activity. Despite Trask Industry's unofficial status, the SSS intensified their pursuit of Max and the Lauren's family.

Max planned to leave but was intercepted by the Reid family once more. Despite their reluctance, they agreed to part with Lauren for her safety. Entrusting her to Max, the decision was made swiftly. Max wasted no time, escorting the family directly to India.

As Lauren bid her family farewell, Max sensed a reunion on the horizon. The Sentry's pursuit of mutants had evolved into a hunt for individuals with mutant genes, casting a dark shadow over the future.

Returning from India, Max bypassed the Mutant underground base, leaving Lauren there with Sonia.
