He is perfectly a common person. He gradually accepted his reality and planned to take advantage of plot to become rich instead and also by copying books from his previous life.
He made stories of Game of thrones, Twilight series and Percy Jackson. He became the best author in a span of few months and earned some fortune. With it he is prepared to buy the shares of stark Industries when it's time and live a normal life.
But he didn't expect something more outrageous. His cheat finally appeared. He sighed after being angry for sometime and opened the panel of notifications :

John clicked yes in annoyance and bonded with the system. The novice gift pack gave him a single life simulation and Gojo Satoru inheritance :

He is given more than a hundred places including hell and sealed dimension haven. The note gave him some wariness but he felt it's okay. He chose the Asgardian - Vanir Royal. Then another screen popped up in front of him.

After contemplating for a while he came to a conclusion. That is to select Runes and wisdom. As for others, he can master space with that long life time using six eyes and inheritance of Gojo Satoru. Death is out of the window for now considering hela, destruction is useful but on long run it is hard to master further. War can be useful but to odin has the divinity of war too. Ineffective in his opinion.
On other hand even though Odin got runes and wisdom he haven't completely obtained the knowledge from world tree. If he is born with them, then he is sure this will make the world tree provide knowledge to him to convert him into a weapon for fighting against those in the shadows. With Odin's force if given or maybe becoming the champion of a cosmice entity he can definitely kill them.
Don't underestimate Runes, Rune king Thor is one of the most powerful versions of Thor to exist. He can single handedly take on the ones in shadows. As for if he can succeed this is a simulation. Even if he dies there is no loss for him, at most he will gain it here and take on the mission again without any mistakes from the past life.
The screen lit up and the words appeared :

[ year 1 : odin suddenly intervened and stopped them all. Asgardians though angry can only swallow their revenge and go back except hela who lunged forward ignoring Odin. She mad for her aunt's death who is the only one to show her kindness ]
[ year 1 : surtur crown is blown off and laufey saved his life at the last moment with the loss of another limb. Odin enraged by hela defying him placed her under house arrest ]
[ year 2 : you're still a toddler and don't know anything except playing with frigga who took care of you like a mother. Hela and Odin's relation continue to detoriate. But hela isn't a villain yet, she is quite fond of you as your inherited your mother's blond hair and face. She is also very intrigued about your shining blue eyes that shined like stars ]
