It's late at night, and I've just been staring out my window, thinking of everything and nothing.
But my peace is interrupted by a knock on my window, as I then see Gwen in her suit peek in.
I open the window as she talks. "Mind if I come in?" She asked in a slightly pained voice.
"Uh, sure, what's up?" I asked, and then she crawled in before getting to her feet as I see her suit have some tears and cuts, with a backpack, well on her back.
"I'm sorry for suddenly putting this pressure on you, but I don't have anyone to ask really, but do you know how to sew up a cut?" She asks sitting on my bed while I follow suit.
"Uh, a little, use to sew up some clothes, but why?" I asked a pretty dumb question, but I'd rather confirm that I'm about to be sewing up a cut somewhere on her body apparently.
"I kinda got grazed by a bullet, wasn't able to dodge fast enough. Still haven't mastered my Spider-Sense honestly." She said while wincing in between.
"Wait, what's a Spider-Sense?" I asked while getting my sewing kit and a first aid box.
"It's this sixth sense alerting me to any type of danger." She answered while I started cleaning my hands with an alcohol and wipe the needle too.
"So where's the cut?" I asked after grabbing the sterile surgical threads.
"Uh, mind turning around real quick?" She asks awkwardly.
"Oh! Yeah totally." I say before quickly turning, ignoring the suit that eventually gets thrown towards my chair.
"You can turn now." She says as I turn to see her in the same clothes she wore earlier, minus the hoodie.
"The cuts here." She said, twisting the back of her right arm to me.
"Normally I would do it myself, but-"
"Nah it's totally fine." I quickly cut her off. Cleaning the wound, which got a wince from her, I continue with my job and sew the wound nicely.
"Damn, you did a good job. How'd you learn to sew this good?" She asks while looking at her new stitches.
"Like I said, had to sew some clothes before." I said, not wanting to reveal the origin of my experience.
"Well anyways, thanks for this, and sorry again." She said walking to the window.
"It's fine, if you ever need help in the future, you know where to stop by." I said with a smile as she smiled back.
"Good night, Peter."
"Good night."
…
Then that slowly became a regular occurrence, coming to have me help nurse her wounds, though I didn't mind, as typically it was nothing serious. Added she seems to have a pretty decent healing factor, turning would be slightly ugly scars to little ones. But then came one night, after fighting the goblin again.
By now I already knew it was him who knocked me out, so I already had a grudge against him, but this only added to it.
Gwen got here, went into my room, limped to my bed while dropping her backpack on the floor, a lens broken, suit singed, the back of it with a big hole and cuts all over, and the look in her eye, was something I'd forever remember.
"Hey, Gwen what happened?" I asked while going to her side, holding her hands.
"I, I couldn't do it." She stuttered out.
"What? Couldn't do what?"
"I couldn't save everyone." She said.
"I… I got there, to a burning building. There was a little girl and boy, stuck under debris at different sides. I thought I could save both…"
"I wasn't fast enough. Strong, enough. I ran over, but fell through the floor as it broke below me. I webbed back up, and all I saw was the boy. The girl, her head was, it…" She tried finishing her sentence, but she started gagging so I quickly grabbed a trash can and gave it to her as she starting throwing up some fluid, as I brought her hair up, this also showing she hasn't eaten recently.
"Uh, so I went to save him at least, the boy, but he didn't want to be, I still did of course…"
"He told me how that was his sister, how, he hated me. I failed Peter, I failed him, I failed that little girl who had a beautiful future probably, I faile-"
"Hey! This isn't your fault." I said while hugging her.
"Sometimes there are things in life you just can't control, None of that was you, it's not your fault." I comforted her as she started crying. "It's ok, just let it all out." I soothed her, then cleaned her wounds as she kept crying, was able to somehow convince her to change clothes and use some mouth wash before eventually she fell asleep.
…
Waking up that morning, I yawned and stretched, or tried to, before noticing Gwen using one my arms as a pillow, in my bed…
"Peter!" I suddenly hear Aunt May yell from downstairs, not good. Gwen woke up instantly at her voice, took a second to take in her surroundings, before literally jumping off the bed and me like a cat.
I stared at her sticking to the ceiling on all fours with a lot of amusement.
"Good morning to you too." I said with a smile, and Gwen awkwardly smiled herself before dropping to the floor, just in time for her dad to burst in, Aunt May behind him as my brother smiled in the back.
"Gwen, oh my god are you ok?" Her dad asks her, instantly going to her side and inspecting her, before turning to me.
"You! What di-"
"Wait dad! I came here from my own choice. I was, sad and mad about something, and I didn't know who to go to before deciding on him!" She quickly explained, but back tracked seeing his expression.
"Though it's not like I didn't think of you either, I just, didn't want to bother you with something so trivial, hehe." She finished with an awkward laugh, though he only ended up with a more hurt look.
"If something is making you feel down, it won't be trivial to me, your my one and only daughter, my only family left." Her dad said.
"Yeah… Well you see I've been having mood swings since it's that time of month, and then I saw a cat video of it falling and I got really sad and started crying so I came over and climbed through his window since that's totally normal for normal people to do and he soothed me through it but I eventually cried myself to sleep so yeah." Gwen explained awfully quick, as everyone gained an awkward look, the silence being broken my brother laughing before getting hit over the head from a slipper from Aunt May.
"Ehem, I see… Well I'm glad to see you're ok, but we should go, sorry for intruding like this May." Mr. Stacy said as he exited my room with May.
"Yeah, let me just grab my backpack."
She left, and I looked at the time to notice it's 6:30 in the morning, so I go back to sleep after making sure my alarm is set to 7.
Eventually came school, and lunch where I sat with Gwen.
"Soo, how you feeling?" I asked, referencing last night.
"Better, thank you Peter, for helping me all the time, for being the good guy you are." Hearing those words from her, made me happy, but I also feel like I don't deserve it, those words of praise.
"Yeah, no problem Gwen."
…
Walking my way to the train, I suddenly get a phone call from an unfamiliar number.
"Hello, who is this?" I asked.
"I am Mr. Fisk's assistant, am I speaking to Peter Parker?" A lady's voice says as I brighten up at the mention of Fisk.
"Yeah, this is Peter speaking, what's happening?"
"Well Mr. Fisk is hosting a fundraiser for orphaned children this Friday at Fisk Tower. This is me extending an invite from him." The lady's says professionally.
"Ok, at what time should I be there by?" I asked, not willing to refuse an invitation from my benefactor in a way.
"The event will begin at 6 PM. Mr. Fisk hopes to see you there. Have a good day." She finished before hanging up.
'Huh, maybe I should invite Gwen? Would be a good break for her, even if it's only a day from her crime fighting crusade.'
Uh, I think this chapter is pretty decent, redid the “main scene” a few times till I came to this, lmk what you think.
