- Peter & Mary Jane's house: 07:12PM
Both husband and wife were currently snuggled up on the couch in their apartment cuddling each other while watching a movie, it was going slow but Peter felt he was moving forward with his wife as she got through the tragedy that befell them.
It was hard for him to see her so sad about losing the baby, it was the same for him too as he was looking forward to being a father but it wasn't meant to be. Coupled with losing Ben at the hands of his first love's murderer and his surprise return from the grave, it took all of his strength not to lose her in front of her.
Fortunately, he had the support of his aunt and his friends at the Bugle to help him through this time. May would visit whenever she got a chance, Robbie and Betty called to ask how they were doing, and Jonah was really kind to let Peter take whatever time he needed from his paid job to be with his wife.
Regardless, he was happy to have good friends to help him... though there was one group of people he wished were still with them, namely the Fantastic Four. For him and for them, they were quite close in their friendship that bordered on the familiar, Johnny and Ben's antics aside, they were like brothers to him, whom he knew he could count on when he needed their help and vice versa. versa. Sue and Reed were to him two of the strongest people he knew and he had great respect and admiration for them and the advice they often shared with him meant a lot.
Their defeat along with the Avengers was a heavy blow for many; he couldn't even begin to imagine what his son must be feeling. He tried to check in as much as he could, but with crime on the rise due to the events of the last few weeks and the need to be with his wife, he had almost no time, much to his regret.
"Peter? Are you okay Tiger?"
"Yes dear, just thinking about things, it wasn't important." He says to dispel any worries she might feel.
"You are a terrible liar Mr. Parker." She scolds in a friendly way, earning a sigh from her husband.
"You know me very well Mrs. Parker…" he responds warmly before deciding to tell her
"...I was thinking about Reed and the others, about Franklin...us."
"I miss them too, Peter." She answers sincerely, she really would have liked to have spoken to Sue, but that was no longer a possibility.
'Why do terrible things have to happen to people like them and us? Don't we all deserve a little happiness for everything we've been through?' She thinks to herself as she holds Peter closer and smiles as he returns the gesture. She silently thanked him for being here with her during these trying times.
Their inner musings were interrupted when they heard a noise at the front door.
*TOC TOC TOC!*
"Huh? That's weird, were you expecting company Peter?" She asks.
"Not for you?" He asks in turn, but she simply shakes her head in denial before another series of knocks. Peter gets up and moves towards the door, looking through the peephole, he sees he is blocked by something, he feels no danger so he calmly opens the door to see no one there but an envelope taped to the door addressed to him and his wife.
'Okay, that's not weird at all.' Peter thought trying to ease her concern.
Taking it off as he takes one last look around the hall, he moves back to his wife, who is also eyeing the item curiously.
"What you got there?"
"Well, I'm hoping it's a big check with lots of zeros."
Rolling her eyes at her husband's need for levity, she sits down beside him as he opens the envelope and they both begin to read its contents.
-For the Parkers—
-I send this to you in hopes of arranging a meeting with you, the nature of which is of great personal importance to both of you, in order to rectify a great injustice committed against you.—
They both look at each other as they try to make heads or tails of it before turning their attention back to the card.
-You are no doubt wondering the meaning behind these words, but I can assure you without a doubt that you will benefit greatly from it. Why I do this and who I am will be revealed in our meeting, but rest assured that I am a friend and someone who feels this injustice must be undone.—
-Please meet me at this address today and all will be revealed, I have only your best interest at heart.—
The letter ended there leaving the couple confused and perplexed by its strange nature.
"What do you think Peter means?"
"I don't know MJ, but should we go? I mean, what if it's a scam or worse, a trap?"
"I don't know Tiger, call me crazy, but I feel like this is something we should do."
"Feminine intuition?" he asks with a smile getting one from her.
"Of course you know my intuition always trumps your spider sense." The redhead responds with a mischievous look on her face.
"Maybe you should wear spandex then?" He responds getting the same look as she whispers in her ear.
"Oh no honey, I'm saving that gem for our anniversary."
"Ah... ah!" Peter can't help but imagine it turning red and wonders if she was taking lessons from Felicia before he hears her giggle and smile. It was just like before and it showed that there was still this fire for life that he had come to love in this woman.
"Well, let's get ready Peter, we can't have our mystery guest hanging right now can we?"
Peter once again just chuckled and was glad his mood was improving, not to say he wouldn't be alert after all. With that in mind, he went to get ready and join his wife in this latest endeavor while wondering what lay ahead.
-Minutes later-
Both husband and wife arrived at the meeting place, which to their surprise turned out to be a police station, and they were even more surprised to find a group of well-known people there.
"Parker? What are you doing here?" J. Jonah Jameson's recognizable voice was heard as he, Robert Robertson and Betty Brant stood beside him, also surprised to see the couple.
"I could ask you the same thing."
"Well, we got this weird letter addressed to us telling JJ here about a big scoop and we needed Robbie and me as additional witnesses." Betty responds before moving to hug MJ while Robbie and Jonah go to Peter.
"It's good to see you, how are things?" Robbie asks gently as usual.
"Well, we're getting there, it might take a while, but we'll get through it."
"You're right, you will Parker, it's easy to just lay down and die, but it takes guts to get up after a hard hit. Hell, I've been through a lot of bad situations, but that never stopped me and it sure as hell won't stop him if I have a say in it." Jonah adds, as he feels the need to add his opinion on the matter, as he has been through his own personal tragedies, but he refuses to just give up, so he shared his own wisdom with the man before him.
Say what you will about the man, but Jonah cared about the people who worked for him, even though he spent a lot of time trying to express it in a productive way.
"Thanks JJ, I really appreciate it."
"It's better, I need you fresh for more pics of this new cover other than the ones you took when he stopped those six goons, nobody got a decent pic of him. We need to keep track of this, the man is a real class act not to have afraid to show what's different from that damn coward spider."
However, any further conversation was cut short when a voice caught his attention, while everyone else in the vicinity gasped at the sight before them.
"It takes more than showing your face to make a hero, Mr Jameson, I believe Spider-Man is such a man and I take solace in knowing he is out there doing good."
Now all eyes in the group turned to see the man who had been slowly gaining notoriety float towards them with a bound and gagged woman in one arm and something covered in a blanket in the other.
"What the hell?!" In keeping with his explosive nature, Jonah exclaims upon seeing the man he praised and his burden.
"I'm glad to see you all came to receive my letters, it gives me hope that justice will be served on this day..." Clark speaks confidently before looking at the police officers who stopped and looked at the sight before calling out to him. them.
"Officers I need your help with this criminal I have before you." Clark said as he handed Mongrain over to law enforcement officials.
One, a man of Hispanic descent, whose name tag reads Ramirez Steps Force cautiously.
"What is her crime?"
"It's mostly adding to and furthering the kidnapping of a helpless child moments after birth and taking said child to a foreign country." He replied gravely as he cast a glance at his captive.
"These are serious accusations, do you have proof of that?" The officer had to ask as his job demanded of him.
Clark pulled a small disk from his belt.
"This contains video evidence of her reaction when I showed myself to her when I went to arrest her; I also have a recording of her talking to whoever orchestrated this whole disaster." Mongrain's visual shock and mild fear further aided Clark's case.
"Do you know who did this and why? And what is that giant crystal you're holding?" Ben asks as his reporter's instincts kick in as he grabs a tape recorder.
"Thank you for asking the last Mr. Urich, I must say I admire your dedication to exposing the truth even in the face of danger." Which was true, as Clark knew the man had done everything he could to expose men like the Kingpin and Osborn.
He then turned to the couple present as he showed what was on his other arm.
"Mr. and Mrs. Parker, I believe this young lady has been withheld from her parents long enough." He spoke softly to the pair as he gently handed little May to her mother.
MJ felt a myriad of emotions looking at her daughter, pain, longing, regret and hope.
"How did you know it was our baby? Or that she was kidnapped? And who was responsible?" Peter quickly asked as he looked at his son, deep down he knew it was his, something inside him told him that.
"Calm down Mr. Parker…" Clark replied softly as he anticipated this reaction.
"I know this is your son because I discreetly obtained his and his wife's DNA to make a comparison, and yes, I realize I was presumptuous on my part, but given the cause I felt at the time, discretion was best part of the value, although I'm sorry about that and I understand if you want to press charges."
Clark meant it when he said it, he was going to freak out too and not settle down, so he accepted that there could be repercussions for his actions. That didn't change the fact that they would be worth it, as he had done what he set out to do.
Peter relaxed a little, as his concern now was if his altered DNA surfaced and thus he told this man about his heroic alter ego, although given the man's honest apology and his willingness to accept responsibility, he would say that he maybe you didn't need to.
"How I found out about this crime is simple to answer, I have extremely heightened senses which include hearing. While flying across Europe I overheard a conversation between this woman and her boss. I started digging a little deeper to make sure what was going on first to act." He responds with his cover story, he didn't feel like telling people he knew about certain upcoming events and being labeled a nutcase... that would be bad for his image.
"But you could have faked all that!" He heard someone in the crowd say.
"True, but why would I? I don't know these people; they are no threat to me and they have nothing I want. But if it makes them and the public feel any better, I should turn myself in to the authorities. until a proper DNA test is done that proves beyond a doubt that it really is their baby." With that said, he turned to the officer holding the woman and held out his hands to be handcuffed.
"Officers, I bow to your judgment although I ask that you provide protection for the Parkers as I fear for their safety and that of their baby." That brought yet another shock to everyone.
