Lily was determined that today would be the day. She'd been resolved since she first arrived at the orphanage to beat one of the boys during sword training, but they always overwhelmed her. She wasn't as strong, or as fast, or as adept at fighting as they were and she always ended up flat on her back, with a wooden sword pointed at her chest. Which inevitably led to tears, which made her look even weaker.
No matter how hard she tried, she never managed to force back the crying until she was alone. The moment anything upsetting happened, they were coursing down her cheeks and plopping onto her dress. The boys made no secret of the fact that they thought she was a weak little crybaby and when they heard she wanted to be an adventurer when she grew up they'd nearly wet themselves with laughter.
Jake was different when they were alone. He could be almost kind and spoke to her quite gently, but the moment anyone else was around, he turned into just another bully. Lily chose to spar with him today, hoping he'd take it a little easier on her and maybe even give her a few pointers. Instead, he'd eviscerated her in record time, while the others cheered him on. "How many times have I told you already?" he snickered as he looked down at where she was sprawled in the dirt, her wooden sword out of reach next to her. "You can't beat me."
Lily bit her lower lip hard, willing herself to be strong. To pretend that she didn't care about him trouncing her so quickly and thoroughly. She could taste blood on her tongue and hoped the physical pain would ease her aching heart, but it was hopeless. She was far too emotional and sensitive and tears gleamed in her eyes, threatening to spill over at any moment.
"Ugh, you're about to cry again, aren't you? You're such a baby! When are you going to understand that you're just a girl? You shouldn't be playing around with swords, you should nurture a dolly and play house with the other girls," Jake snarled.
Lily quite liked doing all those things, but she also wanted to be an adventurer. She wanted everyone to know she was more than the insecure, clumsy girl that everyone always teased. Jake's angry tone almost pushed her to agree with him, she couldn't stand confrontation and preferred to do as she was told, but she didn't want to give up on her dreams so easily. She just needed a little help so she could get better. She finally snapped, sitting up and hugging her knees while uncontrolled sobs started tearing from her chest.
Jake firmly stomped on the feeling that he should help Lily to her feet and comfort her. In an effort to prove that her crystal blue eyes and sad whimpers had no effect on him, he sniggered, "I think we should show Lily what girls are good for." He signaled to the two other boys behind him, "Grab her." They smirked as they moved toward Lily, who didn't even have the common sense to try and run away. She probably wanted this to happen, they thought to themselves, as each of them firmly held one of her arms.
Jake sank to his knees and put his sword on the ground, slowly leaning closer to her. His eyes roamed over her face, taking in the long, bubblegum pink hair that fell down her back and the huge, clear blue eyes, like a lake in the snowy mountains. He'd always thought Lily was kind of pretty and he liked that she never really argued with him either. His cheeks grew warm as he got closer to her face. He'd never kissed a girl before, she'd better no say he was bad at it.
"Jake, what are you doing?" Lily asked, tears still rolling down her cheeks. "Just do as you are told," he ordered, "Pucker your lips." He was going to kiss her, she suddenly realized, and her heart began thumping unevenly. She liked the way he demanded her submission and she was eager to feel his lips against hers. Even if she was being held down like some kind of prisoner. If it made him feel good to think she was being forced, she'd play along. Her long lashes lowered as she cast her eyes down and her cheeks were flaming hotly as she followed Jake's orders.
Sweat was starting to bead on Jake's brow and he hesitated, staring at Lily's lips. She was trembling slightly and it made him feel strangely powerful. He'd never won a match in the ring. Beating Lily didn't count, she was so clumsy she could beat herself, and he often felt like the other boys looked down on him. This would count for something in their eyes and on top of that he actually wanted to do it, so he didn't understand what was holding him back. Her lips were pale pink and looked as soft as the petals of a rose. All he had to do was lean in a bit more and his own would be pressed against them.
"What are you waiting for, Jake? You're finally going to kiss a girl. Are you chicken or something?" asked one of the boys holding Lily. "O- of course not!" Jake denied hastily. He could hardly tell them he wanted to be sure he did it right. It was only Lily, who cared how it was for her? He grabbed her face with both hands and closed the distance between them, but a split second before their mouths collided, he was interrupted.
"What's going on here?" a strict voice enquired. Jake jerked away from Lily so fast that he toppled onto his back, stammering nervously, "M-m-miss Jenny. It's nothing. I don't even like her!" He was mortified that Miss Jenny had seen him nearly kissing Lily. A second before it had seemed like something he wanted, but now that he had Miss Jenny to look at, he couldn't fathom what he'd been thinking. She was the sexiest woman alive. Lily was virtually a troll next to her. An underfed baby troll, with no meat on her bones. Lily was flat-chested and tiny. Miss Jenny was all sensual curves and her breasts were absolutely huge. He touched himself every night imagining his face buried between those bazookas.
As Miss Jenny approached, the three boys were fixated on the bounce of her breasts, utterly incapable of moving their gazes to her brown eyes. Jake's face flushed bright red and he continued stumbling over his words until he finally managed to say, "We're just playing around!"
Miss Jenny quirked an eyebrow and looked at Lily's face before turning her gaze to Jake. "It doesn't seem like Lily's enjoying the game very much," she commented without inflection. "You know what a crybaby she is!" he replied nervously, still having trouble averting his eyes from her chest.
Miss Jenny didn't respond and when he finally managed to tear his gaze from her mammoth mammaries and met her eyes, all he saw was disbelief. "Well, we have to go," he said hastily, grabbing his sword and signaling to the other boys that it was time to make themselves scarce.
Once Jake and the others were out of earshot of Miss Jenny, the other boys began laughing. "You failed again, Jake. Maybe you'll never kiss a girl," they taunted, their voices full of derision. "Shut up!" he shouted at Marcus, who was being louder than the others. "You like to boast, but you only got a kiss on your cheeks from Miss Jenny!" Jake said bitterly.
"Yeah, but it's Miss Jenny," the boy replied smugly as if nothing more needed to be said. "Yeah, who am I kidding? Lily has a cute face, but she's just a flat-chested girl. Miss Jenny is a real woman," Jake agreed with a deep sigh, those lush breasts front and center in his thoughts again. "Maybe someday you'll win a practice match and get a kiss from her too," Jeremy said with a wide grin. "Yeah, right," Marcus said mockingly, "As if that's ever going to happen." They all laughed raucously at Jake's fury.
"Lily, I warned you to stay away from them," Miss Lily said with a deep sigh, "Why do you keep coming back for more punishment? It's almost as if you like it!" Lily's gaze was fixed contemplatively on Miss Jenny's chest and it took her a second to snap out of her reverie. "I know you have, but I want to be an adventurer and I need to know how to fight."
Miss Jenny giggled and rolled her eyes, "You're such a strange girl," she said with a touch of exasperation. "Female adventurers are almost non-existent, and the very few that can be found only managed to get into their profession because they awakened a magical ability. But that's incredibly rare, and all of them have acted in supporting roles so far, joining a party as a member, never a leader, and definitely not solo."
Lily looked down, and the tears began to flow again. It was worse hearing this from Miss Jenny, who was speaking to her gently and not just trying to be mean like the boys. "I'm sorry, Lily. But you know all of this already," she said as she hugged her, pressing Lily's face between her breasts and nearly smothering the girl.
Lily suddenly gasped and pressed her hand to her abdomen, her face contorting in pain. "It hurts," she wailed softly, trying to lean forward into her knees. Miss Jenny frowned, "Did they hurt you?" she asked fiercely, ready to go and find those boys if that was the case. Lily was weak, but she wasn't about to let them get away with harming another female.
"It's not that, it hurts here," Lily said, pulling out of Miss Jenny's embrace and showing her where she had her palm pressed to her lower belly. Miss Jenny frowned and then her nostrils flared gently. "Oh! This is a very exciting day for you Lily, I believe you're getting your first moon blood. You're a fertile woman now." Lily frowned, staring at her own flat chest, and then gasped again. Vicious stabbing pains were traveling around her belly and Lily couldn't help thinking that she would quite gladly have put off becoming a woman if this was what it entailed.
"Come on, let's get you to a restroom. It seems you're going to be one of the unfortunate ones who suffer from a lot of pain during your cycle." Lily got to her feet and then froze, her eyes wide when she felt warm liquid trickling down the insides of her legs. "Miss Jenny!" she wheezed fearfully, staring at the bright beads of blood running in rivulets down her pale legs.
"It's just your first period, Lily. It will be ok—" Miss Jenny comforted the frightened girl, supporting her as she began leading her toward the restrooms. Her words dried up when she saw a bright glow radiating from Lily's lower belly, clearly visible through her thin cotton dress. "What is that?" Miss Jenny asked, staring at the light before raising Lily's dress to study her stomach.
Miss Jenny made no attempt to hide her amazement at what she saw. A symbol had materialized on Lily's skin which made Miss Jenny's eyes widen. "That-that's a magic symbol. I can't believe it," Miss Jenny exclaimed, looking solemnly into Lily's eyes. "Lily, it's incredible and the timing is unbelievable, but I think magic has just come alive in you. This is very exciting, we need to go and see the wizard right away."
