Chapitre 47: Wild Beast
Star rushed at Yoshi, but to Star's shock, Yoshi met him in the middle with his katana. Star's expression said it all. But Yoshi kept calm and collected, yet Stat could see behind his eyes just how furious Yoshi was.
The blade clashed repeatedly against Star's hands. But unlike anything Yoshi landed before, even his hydro breath earlier, the sword strikes actually hurt. Star could feel the heavy power behind them.
Star smiled. "Not bad. Let me show you my second ability. Remember, little boy, I got 3." Star extended his arm and fired off a beam of light that snapped Yoshi's sword in two and nearly pierced him through the head. The attack knocked him back and put some distance between him and Star. "This is Skydome. It's an active ability that allows me to fire beams of light that can pierce anything."
He fired several off. Even with Yoshi's newfound speed, each beam was nearly impossible to dodge. Though, Yoshi realized the extent of his passive skill. He felt water underneath him and all around him. He tried to focus every microsecond he wasn't dodging Star's attacks. Eventually, water formed under his feet. He used it to launch himself forward faster than Star could fire one of his beams and it made Star clunch his stomach in pain.
Though, even through the pain, Star kept his sane sadistic smile. "I see. I know how you got this new strength. You must have unlocked your active skill. When you hit me, you had the same power, and you matched my speed. You must have Stat Duplication, which copies a target's strength, endurance, and speed, making abilities and skill the only deciding factors in a fight."
"..."
"Aww. Are you still mad that I killed that slut of a friend of yours? Boohoo, cry me a river, you freak."
Star extended his arm and black mist formed in front of him. Suddenly, a giant creature came forth. It was a winged beast, reminiscent of the Vermilion bird from Chinese mythology. Its body is mostly blue, accented with dark purple stripes and purple geometrical shapes. It has 4 long pointy appendages where its feet were meant to be. They were like scaly spider legs that took off half of the beast's height. And it was already around 7 meters tall.
The anomaly fired a laser beam from its mouth, which Yoshi dodged. She trapped the beast in a water bubble he formed out of the humidity in the air. The beast fired another laser from its mouth, breaking the bubble and forcing Yoshi to dodge again.
"Remember, my ability allows me to control any anomalies I want. The only condition is that I have to beat them. If you have my strength, you could beat one zenith class anomaly like this easily. But..." Star extends his hand, summoning dozens of paradox and zenith class anomalies of all sorts of shapes and sizes. "What about 100?"
Yoshi coated both of his arms with water and started walking towards the army Star just made. Star backed up, letting his army take on Yoshi.
They came from all directions, a wave of shadow and malice. Yoshi danced between their strikes, each movement precise and decisive. His fists were powered up by the water around them, every punch and kick was a burst of power, erasing paradox in a flash of brilliance. Even zenith classes fell after just a few hits.
For a moment, it seemed as though he was winning, as though his sheer skill and speed would carry him through. But the anomalies kept coming and they felt like they were getting stronger and stronger. Every time one fell, two more rose to take its place. Yoshi's breathing quickened. He could feel the pressure building. One zenith managed to graze his cheek, then another clipped his side. Their attacks hurt like hell. Every time Yoshi managed to kill one, another one would land a critical blow on him, causing him immense pain.
Yoshi tried to form a plan in his head, but that was all cut short by a hand lunging through his back. It was Star. Yoshi turned around, his eyes widened with pain.
"Hehe. Did I ever say I would stop attacking you?"
Alice's mind went completely blank as she saw Yoshi's body impaled by Star's hand. Star slammed him on the ground and was about to crush his head. Alice begged her body to move, but it wouldn't.
"Any last words, little boy." Star said while licking his lips.
Yoshi looked back at him. He tried to get back up, using his sword to try to pick himself back up. As he slowly got up, Star let him, because he knew Yoshi no longer posed a threat. "I'm their leader, which means dying isn't an option. I already failed to protect one of my friends, I won't let you kill anyone else."
"Oh, really now? You're just like me, boy. I can see it in your eyes. So violent and evil."
"Quiet. Unlike you, I actually tried to better myself from my awful self-"
Star kneed him in the chest, making him spew out blood. That then pierced his body with his four back spider legs. "I wanna break that bitch of a girlfriend of yours. I wonder what killing you in front of her will do to her mentally. Wanna find out?"
Star threw Yoshi over next to Alice. His blood started gushing out his body and his vision went blurry.
"I see it in your eyes. You're just like me. Hateful, spiteful, vengeful. You committed many of the same sins I've committed."
"..."
Yoshi got back up slowly with the help of his sword. He looked back at Alice, who was still incapacitated on the ground. His broken face turned into a soft smile.
"You're wrong."
"Huh?"
"We're not the same. I know I'm a horrible person. I've committed actions that can never be forgiven. Yet, I still fight. Not for me, but for them. My friends are why I kept pushing."
"Despite me killing Belle, I don't sense any hatred in you. Why is that?"
"Why would I hate someone like you? All I feel is pity at how pathetic you are."
"... Is that how you talk to a god?"
"You're no god. You're just a coward trying to hide from themselves behind their own power."
Star's eyes looked into Yoshi's as an angry mark appeared on his forehead. Yoshi could tell he had struck a nerve and readied his sword.
"I won't let you hurt Alice, or anyone else. Because I have a power that you'll never have."
"You have nothing."
Yoshi looked back at Alice and smiled. "I have her."
