Davinder raised his stare to his son. “The regret I feel about breaking up our family is terrible, yes.But now that it’s broken, what I regret the most is—” He stopped again, his voice failing him. He was choked up and trying to hold back from crying.

Noah sighed. “I don’t hate you, Dad.” He seemed to want to move to his father, but couldn’t. “I know it was hard for you.”

“I tried, you know.” Davinder quickly wiped a tear away. “In the last years, I tried to make it up to you boys.”

“No, I know, I know that. And you did, and I’m—”

“How much more do you want me to suffer, Noah?”

“I don’t know,” Noah said, banging the back of his head on the wall in exasperation. “I’m just so fucking sick of this mess.”

“So am I,” Fay said, lying down again. “I wanna be happy, but I’m so angry all the time.”
