Chapitre 17: Beach volley

The sun was blazing, and though I had planned to get a perfect tan, ten minutes of lying on the towel already had me restless. I squinted toward Rowena, who was sitting a short distance away, completely engrossed in some game on her phone.

She laughed at something on the screen, and I rolled my eyes. How could she sit so still for so long?

I reached for the book I had packed, hoping it might distract me. But before my fingers could close around it, a volleyball thudded into the sand just inches from my face, kicking up a small puff of grains.

I flinched, instinctively sitting up, brushing sand off my chest.

"Sorry about that," came a deep, confident voice.

I looked up, and my annoyance melted away. Standing before me was a tall, muscular woman with caramel-toned skin that gleamed in the sunlight.

Her short, dark hair was tousled just enough to look effortlessly cool, and her amber eyes sparkled with mischief.

She wore a simple black bikini top and shorts, which showcased her toned abs and broad shoulders. There was an aura about her something commanding and self-assured.

"Not a problem," I said, smirking slightly.

She crouched to pick up the ball, her smirk widening as her gaze briefly lingered on me. "I'm Luncindra," she said, holding the ball casually under one arm.

"We're playing a game over there—" she motioned toward a group of people gathered by the volleyball net, "—and I figured I'd ask if you wanted to join. You look like you'd be good at it."

Her friends were a mixed group of demons and humans, laughing and chatting. They seemed friendly enough.

I considered her offer, glancing back at my book, then at her again. The tattooed woman from last night might not be here, but this was a promising alternative. Knowing Luncindra better by which I meant having a one night stand and then never talking to her ever again. I loved vacation only for that.

"Sure," I said, standing and brushing off the sand from my legs. "I'm Rhiannon."

Luncindra's gaze flickered briefly downward, and her smirk deepened. "Nice to meet you, Rhiannon," she said. "Hope you don't mind me saying, but that swimsuit is... distracting. Not that I'm complaining."

I rolled my eyes playfully. "Just lead the way."

As we walked to the volleyball net, I couldn't help but notice her lingering gaze on me. She was bold, that was for sure.

My confidence swelled, and I added a little extra sway to my hips as we crossed the sand. Luncindra chuckled under her breath, clearly enjoying the view.

"Careful," she said in a low voice. "I might start to think you're trying to distract me on purpose."

"Maybe I am," I teased, throwing her a sidelong glance.

When we reached the net, she introduced me to her friends. There was Lilia, a bubbly demoness with green hair and sparkling blue eyes who claimed to be the team's "spirit coach." Beside her was Victor, a human with spiky blond hair and a cocky grin that screamed "wannabe playboy."

The last member of the group was Mira, a petite woman with glasses and an analytical vibe that immediately marked her as the team's strategist. They all greeted me warmly, though Victor's grin lingered a little too long.

"Alright, teams of three," Luncindra said, tossing the ball up and catching it effortlessly. "Rhiannon, you're with me and Victor."

"Lucky us," Victor said, winking at me. I resisted the urge to roll my eyes again.

As we set up on the court, I took a moment to stretch, twisting my torso to loosen up. Sports had always come naturally to me, and volleyball was no exception. I wasn't just here to play I was here to dominate.

The game began with Luncindra serving, her powerful spike sending the ball soaring over the net. Mira lunged to return it, setting up Lilia for a solid counter.

I dove, my fingers skimming the sand as I bumped the ball up to Victor, who set it perfectly for me.

Without hesitation, I leapt into the air, my arm swinging in a powerful arc as I spiked the ball down into their court.

"Whoa!" Lilia said, scrambling too late to save it. "Where'd you learn to hit like that?"

I smirked, brushing sand off my hands. "Natural talent."

The game continued, and it quickly became clear that I was playing at a level far beyond the rest of them. Every time the ball came my way, I either blocked it at the net or sent it hurtling into their court with precision.

Luncindra gave me a few impressed nods, while Victor, to his credit, managed a couple of decent saves.

"Okay, Rhiannon, you're officially scary," Mira said after I landed another perfect spike. "Remind me never to challenge you to a duel."

"Noted," I said, grinning.

The final point of the match was nothing short of epic. Lilia served, and Luncindra bumped it to me. I set it high, giving Victor the chance to spike, but the other team returned it with a coordinated block.

The ball flew back over the net, and I dove, sliding across the sand to save it just inches from the ground.

The crowd around the court, which had slowly grown as the game went on, let out a collective gasp.

"Finish it!" Luncindra shouted.

I popped up, positioning myself perfectly under the ball. My arm swung, and the satisfying thwack of my spike echoed across the beach. The ball hit the sand just inside the line, securing our victory.

The crowd erupted into cheers, and I couldn't help but bask in the moment. Luncindra clapped me on the back, her grin wide. "You're a beast, Rhiannon. Remind me never to get on your bad side."

I laughed, brushing sand off my knees. "Guess you'll just have to stay on my good side."

One of Luncindra's friends, Lilia, stepped forward, her eyes bright with excitement. "Hey, Rhiannon, there's a beach tournament tomorrow. You should definitely participate!"

I hesitated, glancing at Luncindra, whose smirk suggested she thought it was a great idea. A tournament, huh?

It wasn't exactly what I'd planned for this vacation, but the thought of showing off my skills and maybe impressing Luncindra a little more was tempting.

"We'll see," I said, keeping my tone light. But inside, I was already considering it. If nothing else, it would be another chance to make this vacation unforgettable.
