Chapitre 15: Chapter 15: Beginning of negotiations with the old man

Author's Note: I wonder if I've become rusty after my 3 months of absence 🤔.

================================

Hiro's POV

"WAIT, YOUR HOSTAGE??" Kilua yelled, shocked after understanding my words.

"Yes, I want to use him to lure his granddaughter" I explained calmly.

"Aren't Canary and Amane enough for you?" Kilua asked in a teasing tone.

Strangely, every time he teases me about anything, I can't help but see mustaches and cat ears appear.

"Must be my imagination" I thought, cursing my otaku side that, despite years in this ruthless world, hadn't left me.

"No Kilua, it's not a similar case to Canary and Amane. I want to eliminate his granddaughter for let's say personal reasons, hence taking him hostage" I finished explaining.

"And you, did you find friends or have fun?" I asked, heading to my dinner already prepared, with Kilua following me.

"I was bored to death after my visit to the bakery" he sighed, regretting not having insisted on following Hiro.

"Can I help you eliminate the old man's granddaughter? I'm currently bored after my fights at the tower" Kilua pleaded, looking at me with abandoned kitten eyes.

"To be frank with you, it's dangerous with your current strength" I expressed between each bite of my dinner.

"My opponent is someone who fights on the 200th floor and even though she's new there, her strength shouldn't be a joke if she's close to her grandfather" I explained, reasoning calmly.

"But we have roughly the same physical strength and in training I always won" said Kilua with a provocative smile.

"It's normal that he thinks he's stronger than me given all the arrangements I've made for everyone to think like him" I thought.

"Even if you're stronger than me, you're forgetting one thing that Father and brother Illumi taught us" I took a break in my words to take a sip of water.

"A training fight and a death match are two different things, Kilua. For now, of the two of us, I'm the most efficient at killing. With my poisons and medical knowledge, I'm better than you in this area and I'll also add that we'll have to fight one day to know once and for all who's the strongest" I finished, releasing my killing intent towards Kilua.

The reason for being so harsh with him is that it's not the first time Kilua has tried to follow me on missions. Even if he doesn't know I'm carrying out missions with Illumi's help and thinks I'm having fun without him.

Right now, I just want him to understand the difference between us a little.

I have a clear goal in mind, which is to always have more power and any opportunities or means to get more are good to take. But Kilua prefers to have fun and dream, which is normal for a kid his age, but it prevents him from making optimal use of his time and talent.

"I'm sure even without my demon contract power from the Chainsaw Man universe, I can beat current Kilua quite easily" I thought in conclusion.

"Take it easy Hiro... I'm just offering my help, no need to get upset" Kilua explained hastily, waving his hand.

Oops I think I've done enough, I don't want my nice big brother image to be tainted because of an elimination mission.

"Sorry Kilua, I got a little carried away. After all, you just wanted to help me" I apologized and went straight to bed, ignoring Kilua who seemed to want to say something.

Kilua's POV

"Why is he so aggressive?" Kilua thought, looking at his brother's back.

Since their arrival at Heaven's Arena, Hiro had been acting increasingly strange compared to back home.

Before, they were almost inseparable when Alluka and Nanika were with them but since Father had locked them up, Hiro had started to change.

I wouldn't know how to put it exactly but Hiro had started spending almost all his time with Grandpa or reading books.

Even though they rarely saw each other during the day, he forced himself to smile and play with me even though I could tell at a glance that he was damn tired.

I hoped we could make up for it at Heaven's Arena and have epic brotherly moments but it seemed I had false hopes.

"Is it my fault, huh Hiro?" Kilua sighed, looking at the moon through the window.

A feeling of loneliness reigned in the room which seemed dark even though it was perfectly lit.

Narrator's POV

In the morning, Hiro had not wasted time and had eaten a quick breakfast, trying to find a demon but some were uninterested or uninteresting and others too powerful so he had to stop after talking with Power and Angel.

"Canary, bring me the old man I brought last night and give him this on the way" Hiro ordered the apprentice butler.

Shortly after, Canary brought the old man who seemed unconscious in front of Hiro.

"Stop pretending to be unconscious old man" I said, looking at old Kunieda's body on the floor.

"Do you ever lower your guard?" he said, readjusting his posture.

"Tell me why I'm not already dead? And don't try to fool me by saying you want to be my disciple" said old Kunieda, looking me straight in the eyes.

Author's Note: It's annoying, I wanted to finish the Heaven's Arena arc with this chapter but it would have been like a raw summary of events, which is something I hate when reading a fanfic or novel myself. So I'm going to have to extend this arc for another 2 or 3 chapters so it's more accurate to my vision🤔.
