9% I Married A Degraded Alpha / Chapter 18: Rebellion and Insectoids

Chapitre 18: Rebellion and Insectoids

After the big storm, only Yuri, Tuss, and Zeek's small cabin was left untouched. It was the only building that hadn't been damaged.

No one counted how many people were hurt or killed. The pirates didn't care. They forced the survivors to go to the mines and keep digging. "From now on, you'll sleep in the mines, there's no need to come back up," they ordered.

People looked scared, but nobody said anything.

Yuri felt worried. The pirates were getting meaner. If things kept going this way, they wouldn't be able to survive much longer.

Just as she feared, the pirates gave them less time to rest. Some people even got hurt by a rock-digger that slipped from tired hands.

The rocks were getting harder to dig, and they were finding Blue Keystone more often. After Yuri's Enova leveled up, her detached Enova could reach further. She used this to collect a lot of metal genesis and secretly pocketed a few Blue Keystones.

Now, her missing arm wound was covered in blue crystals.

One night, a big fight broke out in alpha and beta's area. Alpha, beta, and omega were all involved, causing a lot of noise.

"Better to die fighting than to die digging," someone shouted.

Hearing this, Yuri stopped her digger and turned to Edgar and the others. "Where did Tuss go?"

Edgar pointed. "I think he went that way."

"Thanks," Yuri said quickly and disappeared before they could blink.

"She's really fast," Cass said, surprised.

"Do you think she's worried the pirates will think she's part of the fight and shoot her?" Edgar asked.

"It looks like she really cares about Tuss," Priscilla said, looking thoughtful. "Even with one arm, she's better than Vivian."

After Tuss lost his legs, Vivian made fun of him and joked about his disability on the university's online forum with "One-arm and no-legs, a match made in heaven." Everyone at the universities knew about it.

Gunshots and explosions rang out in the mine. People were running everywhere. Yuri asked everyone she met, "Have you seen Tuss, the guy who fixes rock-diggers?"

Many people didn't know, but finally someone told her, "He's with the alphas."

Yuri froze. Tuss was with the alphas? He was part of the fight too?

Yuri felt hurt and let down.

She thought they had become close friends after everything they had been through. But he hadn't told her about the big rebellion.

Yuri shook her head at herself for hoping for too much.

She turned around and walked away. She went to the places with the most metal genesis, as if to let out her frustration. Her Enova pulled out the super-hard Blue Keystones one by one.

One hour, two hours, she moved faster. She went all over the mine, not missing a single Blue Keystone, even the ones hidden deep in the rocks.

Yuri noticed that her psychic powers had been growing a lot stronger lately, making it easier to control her Enova. Even if the metals were dozens or even hundreds of meters deep in the rock, she could pull them out if they were there.

Just four or five days ago, she couldn't do this. Now, it seemed easy.

No wonder people say that Enova users with psychic abilities are unusual.

Yuri wondered quietly, "Why my psychic powers have gotten stronger so suddenly?"

While she was thinking about this, she found herself walking towards the center of the fight, where there was the most metal genesis.

The fight was still going on. Maybe the pirates were worried about causing the mine to cave in, so they were using low-powered weapons. This made them less effective in the fight. Even after two hours, the fight wasn't over.

When a dark figure jumped at Yuri, she raised her foot without thinking. But when she saw who it was, she quickly changed direction.

"What are you doing here?" Yuri asked.

Tuss gritted his teeth, like he was trying not to get angry. "There's a fight happening here, what are you doing here?"

"What about you? What are you doing here?" Yuri shot back.

Tuss took a deep breath, looked around, and pulled her into a corner. "Two of the betas are in heat. They used the pheromone, which made the pirates go crazy. I was affected too—"

Tuss stopped, looked into Yuri's eyes, and said, "The pirates hurt the two betas really badly when they went crazy. The omegas used this chance to fight back."

"So, you didn't plan this fight?" Yuri asked.

Tuss shook his head. "They probably won't win." But it would be a big fight.

Yuri noticed a faint, cold, woody smell.

She looked at Tuss in surprise; if she remembered correctly, this was what Tuss's pheromones smelled like.

Tuss seemed uncomfortable under her gaze and looked away. "I'm not very strong right now, so the beta's pheromones don't affect me much."

But they did have an effect. He was hiding here, using all his willpower to resist his urge to find the betas in heat.

Just as Yuri was about to say something, she quickly said, "Someone's coming."

Tuss heard the footsteps too. "You should go."

Yuri didn't argue with him. She grabbed his arm, threw him on her back, and said, "Hold on tight."

Tuss wrapped his arms around Yuri's neck and watched as she expertly ran through the mine at an incredible speed. She was moving so fast that he could see afterimages.

She was almost as fast as he was when he was at his best.

"Is she really an omega that hadn't differentiated yet?" Tuss thought to himself.

After running for a few minutes and making sure they had gotten rid of the people chasing them, she finally stopped.

Then, the loud sound of a gong rang out again.

"All of you down there, we're giving you one chance to come back up now. If you're not there in ten minutes, you're dead."

The harsh voice echoed in the mine. Yuri thought about the speed of quantum guns and her own Enova. She sighed, picked up Tuss, and started towards the elevator.

Maybe when her Enova got to level three, she'd be able to handle quantum guns.

Yuri and Tuss entered the elevator with the rest, heading upwards to the surface. As soon as they emerged, they were met by an ominous line of black gun barrels.

"Please, don't hurt us."

"I don't want to die."

One by one, the others put their hands up in surrender.

Yuri, holding Tuss, also lifted her only available hand. Tuss, with both hands full, simply lowered his head in submission.

"Get out," commanded the pirate, with an icy tone.

Being shoved to the front, Yuri found herself the first to exit the elevator. With her and Tuss both hurt, they didn't pose much of a threat. The pirate barely spared them a glance before ordering, "Go sit over there."

Yuri didn't obey his command to squat. Instead, she and Tuss settled down on the ground, catching their breath and visibly worn out.

The rest didn't have her courage, and they all squatted obediently, forming a group in no time.

"Hey, is that a dark cloud over there?" One person asked, sounding unsure.

"Such a big, dark mass. Is it going to rain?" The man's voice hinted at a rising excitement at the thought of rain.

Everyone else also turned to look at the horizon, their eyes gleaming with hope and excitement at the sight of the dark cloud. They were looking forward to a shower.

Yuri also looked towards the horizon, her eyebrows knitting together, "The air isn't damp." It didn't feel like it was going to rain.

"It's insectoids," Tuss said, his face turning grim.

Yuri whipped her head around to face him, "Are you certain?"

Tuss locked eyes with her, his gaze weighted with a seriousness she hadn't seen before, "Yes."

"Then what are we waiting for, let's go!" Yuri yelled out suddenly, "Those are insectoids, not clouds!"

The pirates flinched, turning their attention to her.

The dark cloud was getting nearer, and Yuri could even make out the shapes of the insectoids. She pointed at the horizon, telling them, "Look for yourselves."

As everyone turned to look at the dark cloud again, their expressions transformed with alarm.

"Damn it. It really is insectoids."

"Everyone to the spaceship, now."

"What about this place?"

"Leave it, let's escape first. We've gained enough from this venture."

"......"
