Chapitre 4: Ugomma
It was Only Ugomma that his heart and body were in tune with. He had seen her in the stream when he was 17. She was the beautiful daughter of Adaugo the village witch. She was a year younger, but the gods had made it that women grew faster in knowledge than their male age group. Indeed she was an example of this. There was something in her eyes that told you that she knew what everyone else didn't.
She discerned when to laugh and when to Speak. He called her Adamarama when she passed him in his small compound and she will give him a toothy grin. She did not wiggle her waist like the other girls. She told him that she could not, that hers were stiffened with much work. He did not doubt her. He didn't think that she was capable of human wrongs. Sometimes he didn't think her human.
Ugomma was beautiful, much more beautiful than Achalugo but she did not adorn her body and did not smile flirtatiously. She hated the village and everyone in it, he didn't blame her though, they treated her like an OSU. She had a passion for silence yet, her mind rivalled the noise of the village during new yam festival. Nwere perceived the wildness of an untamed beast in her eyes, especially when his hands slipped past her breast while they ate from the same calabash.
He used to think that whoever incarnated him incarnated her too for in his eyes, she was like him. Maybe that's why her voice soothed his fever and her body told him stories he already knew. She would feed him and he would repair the licking thatch roof of her mother's hut. What she couldn't do, he did for her and what he couldn't do, she did for him. When the sun rested they were all that existed.
