Chapitre 29: Magic With Gaos And This Broken World

What exactly is Magic?

Magic in this world is kind of simple – but at the same time, it was also something complicated. Rather, it's unfair and broken. It's also something I don't completely understand.

Magic isn't the focus of the Otome game, so even though I played it, I don't have much knowledge about it either. But according to the game, Magic is something given as a blessing and gift by Linus, the God of Creation who is said to have given life to everything and everyone in this world. It's a rare blessing wherein only 37% of this world's population has it, according to the studies done by the Tower of Magic.

It is because of this 37% that I feel lucky to be able to use Magic.

Magic in this world relies heavily on a person's 'Imagination'. It relies on one's strong mentality, and ability to visualize something.

But of course, it's not as easy as it sounds. You need to have the talent, skills, practice, and enough 'Mana'. It was something I haven't mentioned before, but having Magic means having 'Mana', and the ability to control the energy of your surroundings.

Some people may have a large amount of Mana, while some do not. This makes me think about a lot of things – it makes me wonder if Magic here can be related or connected to science, or it is just as simple as it is. It made me think if there is a limit or if it is really broken, and more.

In the end, I gave up thinking too much. I could only put all the blame on the creators of the game for not clearly explaining and creating a proper order or system of Magic in this world.

However, this can be both become a disadvantage and an advantage to me. I can either abuse this broken and unfair order while looking for loopholes in the plot and the world or stick with what I know.

From what I learned, there are different types of Magic. Elemental Magic or Rare Magic like Fire, Water, Air, and such, is something that can't be learned if a person isn't naturally born with them and Magic like teleportation, levitation, and basic spells like using a 'small' amount of fire to light up a torch, can be learned regardless of whether you have an element attribute Magic or not. You can learn it as long as you have the ability to use Magic and Mana.

Some Magic can be extremely hard to learn, while some can be easy so they were divided into two categories. Basic Magic and Advance Magic.

Basic Magic consists mostly of Magics that are used often or usually in people's daily life, like a small fire, fire ball, water ball, and more. Advanced Magic includes Magic that can alter a person's voice, general appearance, more powerful attack and defense Magic, telepathy, teleportation, Healing Magic, and more.

However, there are cases where useful or powerful spells that can do more harm than expected are easy to learn, like when I was able to teach the children at the Morte how to use teleportation.

When you think about it, there is a flaw in this. Being able to use or learn something like teleportation and such can be dangerous. One example of this is the time when I teach the kids in the Morte how to use teleportation, at that time, it was a gamble. If at least one of those kids has the potential or talent in Magic, there is a high chance of them escaping, but if not, everything will depend on effort and luck. In a more simple explanation – They were lucky.

If something has perhaps gone wrong, like if they weren't able to clearly visualize the place they want to teleport or go to as I told them or something went wrong when they cast the teleportation spell or activate it, then the teleportation magic wouldn't work.

Even if it did work, it will not bring them to the place they had expected. If also not even one of those children has the talent to use Magic, then using teleportation Magic for the first time is basically impossible.

If you think about this more deeply in a logical and rational sense while thinking about the order or state of Magic in this world, it would appear that learning Magic like teleportation is quite easy as long as you have all the qualifications, and that fact can be extremely dangerous – it's unbalanced. It was a miracle that this world is still quite as peaceful as it is right now.

Perhaps it's the plot that is preventing chaos from happening because it is designed that way, or maybe it's the fact that although 37% of this world can use Magic, only a few truly have the ability to utilize it or have the talent to actually use it. Other than that, there's also other Magic that can counter teleportation Magic.

As said by an unnamed Mage from a book I've read before, 'every magic can be countered'.

Although they're illegal and banned in the Lansera Kingdom, Magic and things that can nullify Magic temporarily also exist. They're mostly allowed to be used only by the Royal Family to restrain a criminal Mage, anything else is considered illegal and punishable by the law.

Besides, the Royal Family and the Tower of Magic is making sure that all Mages know that any abuse of power or using one's Magic to do something bad will not go unpunished by their law and rules. Depending on what a Magic user did, they can be punished with execution or death.

– These are also exactly a few of the reasons why I didn't recklessly use teleportation to go and flee somewhere the moment I learned it. I might be able to get away with it once I'm sure I'll be able to do a very long-distance teleportation Magic, but that... can just be temporary. I did get away, but is that really complete freedom?

After all, I didn't erase the main cause of my problem. The Duke and Duchess of Euridice, despite not caring for my well-being will still look for me, not because I'm their daughter but because I'm the disgrace of the Euridice family that should be discarded.

They will seek for me with the help of the Royal family and other Mages, disguising it in the public's eyes like a sad family looking for their precious, missing daughter when in reality, once they found me, they might just really kill me.

I can continue to run away while learning Magic and doing things I want, but that's not the life I want to have.

And how can I just flee after everything? I don't hate the Euridice Family, hate is too big of a word. There's no forgiving them, but I also just want to mention that even if I forgive, I will always remember it. Moreover, although rare, I'm the type to hold grudges.

I want them to think I'm dancing in the palm of their hands when in reality, it was me who has been moving the chess pieces in this game.

Thinking like this, I shook my head, forcing my train of thoughts to go back to discussing about Magic.

– Additionally, If you are a Mage that is able to use Elemental Magic, there are times where you wouldn't be able to use certain Magic because of incompatibility with the element you wield – perhaps you can use it, but it'll definitely be weak and has almost no effect.

An example of this is Dark Magic being incompatible with any Magic related to Light Magic, Healing Magic, and such.

Thinking about all of this, I decided to just throw it at the back of my brain for the time being and focus on what is known for sure – which takes me back to the question of whether I'll abuse these loopholes or not. But of course, the answer is quite obvious. If I found something interesting or an easier way to do things, I would choose that.

After all, why would I make myself do it the hard way when I can do it in the most easiest and efficient way?

As you might have noticed already by now, there's probably not that much rule in using Magic in this otome game's game.

Especially in the actual 'using' or chanting of Magic.

Using Magic can sometimes involve chanting spells or words – and depending on the Magic and person, it can be long or short. It also depends on the person whether they'll chant, use words or not.

There's really no specific 'chant' to be said, and the person can use the words or even just a keyword they see fit. Doing this helps Mages in using Magic, allowing them to perhaps focus more or have better visualization. The strength or power of the Magic wouldn't be affected even without a chant.

"Gaos, do you chant a spell or word whenever you use Magic?" I asked Gaos out of curiosity. A loud gasp echoed in my brain, "Do you view me as a weak creature who needs chanting just to do Magic?!" He suddenly exclaimed, sounding offended. Ignoring what he said, I looked around the training room, thinking of what to do next.

"Being unable to do Wordless Magic doesn't necessarily mean that you are weak." I said, repeating one of the paragraphs I saw in a book I once read. I raised my hand as I point my palm towards the wall, concentrating on controlling my Mana as I clear my mind to visualize, "It just depends on the person."

A fire ball shoot out of my palm, the impact on the wall creating quite a loud noise as the fire then quickly disintegrated thanks to the function of the training room.

"As well as a matter of preference."

"It is still normal for one to learn how to cast Magic without needing useless words!" Gaos said before adding, "You have a good Mana control, but you're still not that powerful."

"I know." I said, voice monotone.

I might be blessed with a great amount of magical power and Mana but talent means nothing without enough hard work put in as well.

I still lack a lot of things, and if I push myself past my limit too much, I would surely end up destroying myself. The setback for using Magic without enough experience would take effect, and since it's Dark Magic, it'll be much worse.

Light Magic and Dark Magic are considered as the two rarest Elemental Magic, thus, it is discovered that it's setbacks are worse. However, between these 2 elements, even Dark Magic still has it worse but not because of the reason that it is a 'cursed' Magic as said by the others, but because compared to Light Magic, it revolves around Darkness. I might vomit blood like I did when I fought Gaos before, and more.

I'll have to increase my stamina and strength further because I wouldn't want to just rely on my Magic alone. I can use a sword, but I'm not exactly trained in how to wield it as a professional swordsman or master swordsman can. I still have to work on a lot of things.

Besides, I still haven't properly truly used my Magic on the battlefield – or against humans. Gaos is powerful, but a fight with a human will surely be different because there will be can be more other Magic and weapons involved. Moreover, when I fought with Gaos at that time... he wasn't exactly at his full power.

As said before, Magic like a small fire ball, although related to an elemental, can also still be learned. However, it won't be as powerful as what a person born with Fire Magic can do. This is the case because Magic like a small fire ball is considered as a basic attack Magic. The comparison is probably... a kitten and a tiger. A Mage born with Fire Magic adjusts the size of his fire ball, while those who aren't born with it can not.

However, when it comes to more complicated spells or Magic related to elements, only those born with Elemental Magic will be able to do it, and they can also alter basic magic like fire ball with their own twist.

"Excuses. That just means that you're still weak!" Gaos said, and the mockery can be heard in his voice.

I sigh and whispered to myself, "Magic is too complicated..." – but fun.

"Hey, don't ignore me!"

There might be some info or details that are not included, and some things might be said or added in the future. I would appreciate any reactions, thoughts, opinions, criticism, anything!

More History Of Magic will be discussed in History of Magic :)
