Chapitre 7: She's under my protection!
After his little chat with Batman, Diggle went down of the roof to land in the Backyard where all civilians were still panicking and trying to figure out were did their tires go.
After sneaking in his car without being noticed to replace his suit, Diggle start to wait for the other to come. And it didn't take long before they arrived. Marisa, Mallory and Barbara were here, but what surprised Diggle was the man accompanied the group. It wasn't Gordon, it was Bruce Wayne and he holding Mallory's hand.
"Mister Wayne? How can?" he asked very surprised before remembering the thing he did to him earlier "I hope that you holding my friend hand doesn't mean you will take her with you like you do with other to... What did you said again? Do something that kid shouldn't be aware of?" he said with a mischievous smile, clearly he wanted to get his revenge and it worked pretty well. When Marisa heard the words of her son, she looked at Bruce with shocking expressions who seems to say 'what did you talk about with my son? Trying to perverted his mind at this age?' and forcibly take Mallory away from him. Making Bruce smile awkwardly and embarrassed.
"Honey, let's go, I called your bodyguard to come and picking us. And mister Wayne, thank you again for having take care of my daughter earlier" said Marisa with honesty even though she started to have some doubt when to his reasons for having done so due to Diggle badmouthing on him. The later notice the suspicious glare Marisa throw to him and and look at Diggle annoyed. Diggle return the glare with an innocent face making Bruce shaking his head helplessly.
When they part away, Gordon finally joined them, and when he learnt that during the attack Bruce was with Mallory, he keep nagging her with questions. But due to his wife and Marisa glare, he quickly stopped.
The next day morning, news of the attack in the mayor mansion was on every channels in the TV. According to the police department and the commissioner Loeb, the attack was a shot, mounted by some extremists party in the city who didn't want the Arkham project in the Arkham Island to end. But strange thing, was that when the GCPD Arrived on the crime scene, all the bodies of those extremists have mysteriously vanish leaving only Blood Trails to indicate that they did exist.
Diggle wasn't surprised by those news. Loeb was corrupted and because Gordon just started in Gotham, there was still many corrupted cops in the GCPD, so having the bodies vanish should have been an easy thing. But the next piece of information he heard, made him split his cereals all over.
Among the people killed, there was Dragos Ibanescu the Don of the Romanian family who lead the East End District, the second district full of crime in all Gotham. Where if you weren't a corrupt cop there, you'll be instantly be killed. It was also there were the sadly famous Crime Alley was situated. The street were the Wayne were murdered.
The fall of the 'Romanian' was a tragedy, because now in addition to the fight for The Arkham Island, criminals organisations will also fight for that district. But like it wasn't enough, new also revealed that Salvatore Maroni was badly injured and Lew Moxon the friend of the Wayne family was dead too.
The underworld was in control of Oswald Cobblepot Aka The Pingouin, and normally even if there was some war between Mafioso and gangsters, he always manage to take control of the situation. But that was under normal circumstances, but here, two mafioso boss died and one was badly injured. Something like couldn't be possibly managed.
Yuri Dimitrov the swear enemy of Maroni will surely jump in the occasion and try to finish off Salvatore. And the enormous territory of power that Lew Moxon had would surely attracted the whole mob with greedy heart. And that was if we didn't talk about East End.
"But it can't be that bad" Diggle thought, trying to convince himself "Plus, with those new opened territory, no body will care about my mother".
And he was half right. During the two following month, when the sunset comes sound of guns, bomb and grenade could be heard. And when the dawn came, all we could see outside houses can be described in one word: Battlefield. That's right, city became a battlefield for the underground powers. Though, those warfare were all in specifics locations, like in the East End in the Uptown. Because the Uptown was also an island with many commercial companies there, everyone was scared to go there even if they didn't have choice. Because someone time the Battlefield will went outside of the usual zone and touch the commercial district.
In the past two month, even the corrupt policemen were forced to intervene because of the fear and anger of the citizens. The lieutenant James Gordon became the light of hope in the heart of many of them, because where there would be danger, he will always jumped into it without reservation for his life to save citizens. Another thing is since the Mayor's Mansion, Batman become the fear of every criminals in the city, with the testimony of everyone present at that moment, they succeed in creating the legend of the invincible monster as powerful as Superman. But more, far more fearful.
Since that time, whenever a criminal hear the name of Batman, they stop whatever they were doing earlier, and run away without thinking twice. And that, was the only reason the underground war didn't go overboard. They were all too scared to go all out and inquire the wrath of the Caped Crusader, or like the news start calling him, The Dark Knight. That caused all the bosses in the underground go and nagging the Mayor to arrest that monster.
Funny things was that the mayor didn't want to, because thanks to him they were able to avoid the worst case scenario in that war more than just once. But, he still ordered the GCPD to start the biggest manhunt in the History of Gotham. Or so he thought that how its gonna happen, but the GCPD refused to cooperate and said that as long as the war wasn't over, they will not even consider that order.
Mayor placed in a difficult position due to The Pingouin order, the complaints of the citizens and the blockade from the police department after two more weeks, finally found a compromise for every party putting an end to the war. The blank territory will be put under the hands of Oswald Cobblepot and he will do repartition. In exchange, they all had to stopped fight against each other and the police will start hunting the Batman for them. The deal was sealed in three days, and after that, the 'peace' return on Gotham once again.
In the meantime, during all those events, Mallory and Diggle were now in boarding school in Paris While following the everything on TV. Obviously it wasn't their decision do be here. At first, Diggle want didn't to go to Paris, because he was scared for her mother safety so he keep saying her that didn't need to go there and stuff. But her mother had the same concerns for him and simply refused any protestations, even when Diggle threatened her that he'll run away. Nothing worked.
And so, Diggle went to find Bruce who start to create his Batcave one year time earlier thanks to Diggle and Mallory intrusion from the last time.
When Diggle told him to his problem, he was surprised to find that Bruce was on his mother side, but not for the same reason.
"You and your friend need a real training in martial arts. The only reason you and Mallory were able to knock out your opponents was thanks to your Blowpipe and those strange Stone who could put someone in sleep. I would have nothing to say if your style was assassin type, but you said you will be the light in the city, meaning no dirty tricks like that. Because you know better than me that your opponents will be able to avoid that"
"Yeah, yeah I know. I use that for now because I don't have the necessary power for now. It's not like I have the choice. In the first place, I didn't plan to act now But where's the connection with my trip to Paris?" Diggle replied annoyed because someone remembered him that he was still weak.
Bruce sigh heavily, before explaining "Well first of all, if you stay in Gotham to much while you're a kid, you're bound to become like me no matter what you said or do. The reason is because you know that for now what the city need to keep criminals in check, is fear. And even if it could work with some saint like the guardian Angel of Metropolis, like you said before you are to weak. You've seen the darkness of this city, now it's time for you to see the light and by staying in Gotham that will never happen. Secondly, you and your sister or whatever, don't have any knowledge in combat. I know that you have reflex, agility and have to say, a good skill in stealth, but let be honest a 'white Knight will rarely need that hability. And the fact that you have that skill just renforce my first point. So apart for your agility and reflex, you have nothing that could be useful. But if you agree, I know someone who is actually residing now in Paris who can teach you and Mallory how to fight for real"
That proposal actually made Diggle think about it. Because even he had to admit that even when his abilities will grow, there's no saying that he will never have to fight in a hand to hand combat. Even superman knows martial arts from Krypton. There's no saying that his ability will always work and moreover he just started to learn how they worked.
And while he didn't noticed, what Bruce said was true, all his training and skills were more fit for a 'dark Knight' than a white one. And if continued in this path, he will truly never be the hero he want to be. But there was still a problem "I can't leave even if I wanted to. My mother will be alone facing danger and without knowing it" Diggle respond in regret. That's right, he couldn't leave her mother like that. It was her who manage heal all the pain in his heart and it was her who show if for the first time what really was a mother true love.
Leaving her will be akin to betrayal.
"If it's what you are worried about kid, I watch after her if you want" said Bruce apparently resolute to wanting Dig to to Paris. As if Diggle expected something like that to happen he opened his mouth, but a sound can came out, Bruce continued "your mother doesn't have a big part of the Arkam Island. At most the tier of a street. Even if this isn't much, some people still want to kill her because there's to many gangs in this city. But now with two big powerful man down, it's Christmas for them. All I have to do is to convince them that the East End worth much more than Arkham Island" "And how will you do that?" asked Diggle with scepticism "hehe, all I will have to do is to make some appearance there, and unsure that for a long time, no side will be able to obtain a part of that big cake. By doing so, instead of focusing on their primary target like your mother, they will stay focus on me. And when the times come I suggest kindly to the mayor to share the East End and Lew Moxon territory. And they will have their share, they will take that like reward of their long hard work and they will be so delighted by that, that little peoples who survive three days ago will have nothing to worry. And if even after that, someone comes after your mother, when they will learn that she had me for back-up they will just retreat not finding that worthy to risk everything for just a little amount of land"
After hearing Bruce plan, Diggle couldn't point out any flow, but that was all theory and Diggle didn't want to gamble his mother life with only theory. And Bruce understood that well so he added "If that doesn't work, no matter what your mother says, I will take you back here in the moment, is that's OK?" hearing that, Diggle think for a minute before nodding.
"Oh I forgot to ask, who is the guy who'll teach us?" said Diggle as he was about leave "It's the best martial artist I know in the world, his name is Richard Drakunovski. And He is nicknamed Richard Dragon. He's actually in a mission for a while in Paris for the secret agency G.O.O.D" hearing that, Diggle eyes start to sparkle. Richard Dragon was said to be second only to Silver Tiger and that was only because Silver Tiger his former colleague under the same teacher was become an assassin and keept doing mission to mission with almost no interruption. For Diggle, when it comes to martial arts, not even the Assassin's League could compete with Richard Dragon. That was why they brainwashed Silver Tiger to rope him, and why ARGUS try to take him after when Richard was killed by his son, because those two were the best. Richard train Bruce, he train Huntress of earth-one, and one or two super vilains but he was essentially good and just the best.
So it was understandable that Diggle was excited about meeting a legend like him. "I can't wait to meet him now" While thanking Bruce Wayne for the gift, Diggle gave him a last piece of advice in case the Butterfly effect affects to much the time line "When the opportunity presents itself you should take a sidekick"
Back to the present, Diggle and Mallory were in dojo facing a tall man with fine face, long red hair a sharp gaze and a muscular and well proportionate body. "So are you ready?"

Arikawane And that conclude my released for today. The next chapter will be focus more on Mallory we will hardly see Diggle in it. Because I think that Mallory is not developed enough as her partner in...no crime? Also because there's more than some suspicion about my choice for Diggle ability, I can assure you, it IS powerful damn! He can't control it for now because it's too powerful.
