What?!!!!. Did he just say betrothed??. My eyes are fixed on his face, finding answers to no avail as he only keeps a straight face with no emotion or expression whatsoever.
I wanna scream and ask for an explanation but his words come back to me and I reluctanctly keep shut.
He didn't ask me to say anything. Fuck. I can feel everyone looking at me, waiting for something but I stay put, not even having the guts to look upon any of their faces.
"What?!" Miranda says with shock and disgust laced around her voice, "your betrothed?. That's impossible Sean."
"No, it's not." He responds.
"She's a human." The man beside me speaks up sounding equally irritated and Sean's fist tighten even more under the table.
He's dead nervous but manages to control his countenance, not giving off any sign of weakness.
"And your point is?" He says again, starting to sound angered.
"My point?". He says in disbelief, "you of all people know exactly what my point is."
"You can't get married to a human Sean." Someone says and protesting whispers erupts amongst them earning a low growl from Sean.
"No one!", He says again obviously trying to control his piqued temper, silencing them, "has the right to tell me what to do. If I say I'm getting married to a human then I will!"
"Not on the throne Sean." A strange voice which I haven't heard before, sounding almost as authoritative as Sean's, says from in front of me, most likely beside Miranda.
"We won't allow a human rule beside our king. Not again."
Again? A human has been here before? Could it be Betty? And did he just say Sean's their king? Oh no! I slapped their king. They'll probably behead me if they find out.
"I'm not your king." Sean responds, unable to hide his anger anymore and the tension in the air gets thicker by the second.
"But you would be," the voice says again, "except you want to forfeit it for a silly human girl."
"Adrian!". The man beside me speaks up again in annoyance, "be careful the words that come out of your mouth. Do not speak such nonsense!."
"My apologies Sean." The man turns to Sean and continues, "he meant no harm or threat."
"Do not apologise for me like I'm some kid."
"Adrian!" Miranda speaks up this time but before she can say more, I hear the screeching noise of a chair moving backwards, followed by retreating footsteps that is soon stopped by Sean's voice.
"We are not done here Adrian."
"Well, I am." Adrian says and continues to move but before he could take two steps, Sean disappears from his seat and I look up to find him standing in front of Adrian that has his back to me.
Sean is taller than him by just an inch and it's barely noticeable, he's putting on a wine suit complimenting his curly dirty blonde hair. I look at Sean and see him looking at Adrian with a poker face and his both hands in his pockets.
"We are not done here." He says calmly, almost as if nothing's going on but his eyes says a whole different thing.
"Adrian!" Miranda says and I look at her for the first time, her beauty almost blinding me. I could swear God gave birth to her himself the way her smooth light skin glosses brightly, looking almost porcelain. Her perfectly straight auburn hair falls gracefully on her shoulders, her lips full and pink like she soaked them in a strawberry fountain. Her high cheekbones and feminine jawline intimidates mine and I look away immediately before I lose the tiny bit self esteem I have left.
"Sit back down now Adrian!" The man urges again, sounding scared and frustrated. "Now!."
I look at him also and see he looks a little older than his voice. He looks to be in his late thirties but still, his beauty is not something you can find just anywhere.
Adrian says something that I can't hear but strolls back to his chair, his light brown eyes meets mine and I look down immediately. Who are these people exactly and how did they manage to look this, perfect with no single flaw.
"Where were we?" Sean asks again and I realise I was so lost in my thoughts that I didn't see him sit.
"Do you really want to do this?" Miranda says calmly but still, unable to conceal her anger completely. "Have you forgotten what happened the last time?."
"She's not the last time." Sean defends me and I just wanna get up and scream that I'm not interested but then, that'd be the most unreasonable thing to do.
"But she's human. She's just like them. They're all the same Sean!."
"So who do you allude I marry?" Sean asks her, "you?."
She goes silent along with the whole room and Sean gets up.
"We'll be leaving now," he takes hold of my hand and I get up, my legs shaky and my head bowed.
"Think of your mother." Adrian says and before I know it, Sean let's go of my hand and is tackling Adrian to the ground, raising his fist high up in the air and lands it on his face, a cracking sound erupting in it's wake.
Everyone gets up in fear but no one dares go close and without further ado, he comes to me with the speed of lightning and immediately, I find myself in the room, sitting on the couch with Sean beside me.
He rests his head on my shoulder and I stiffen, not expecting him to do that. I wanna ask for an explanation of what just occurred but I can't, now doesn't seem like the best time.
He wraps his hand around me and rests his head on my chest, looking so calm, like the Sean I knew before the meeting.
I have not the slightest idea what I should do. Should I comfort him or not. But how can I give comfort, comfort that I do not possess.
Everything that happened just now happened so fast and it's so hard to process. It happened too fast but not fast enough to miss the glare in Miranda's eyes shooting daggers at me nor the sick mischievous smirk on Adrian's lips, telling me I'm in so much trouble.
If you enjoy reading this book, would you mind taking a moment to review it? it won't take more than a minute.
