CHAPTER 1
NEW YORK 2018
~SERENE~
I stared down the window, lost in my thoughts. Why was life so unfair to qaaa? I thought the hardest thing for a woman was to make their in-laws love them, which is why I grew up making sure they loved me, and they did, as they even made sure I married him. Yes, I was married to the love of my life, Diego. From the moment I set my eyes on him, I knew he was the one for me. I was fortunate as his family was good friends with my father, and since my father died saving him, they swore to make sure he married me.
I was happy when he finally proposed. I can still remember that day, like yesterday. He was not happy. He told me he was doing it for his family, but did I care? No, because I knew I would win his heart, and no, I was not giving up. I am going to win his heart.
I subconsciously stopped myself as I raised my hand almost sipping on the wine then I remembered I was not pregnant, I just lost our baby a few weeks ago so I brought the glass to my mouth, sipped on it to the bottom, "Ah," I let out a satisfactory sound and then I stood to my feet and looked down, I hoped to see my husband, it was mid-afternoon I knew him coming this time was a miracle but today was our anniversary, I hoped he would come early to spend it with me but still I couldn't blame him, seeing that his favorite car was not there I sighed then walked to the table, I placed the glass on the counter and walked toward the door but quickly turned, no, today had to be perfect so I walked back and took the glass and bottle of wine from the table, he loved champagne, not wine.
"Mrs. Myers, do you need anything?" Nora, my house help quickly ran to me and took the bottle and glass from my hands.
"Yes, did my husband call?" I asked, and she shook her head. I've been asking her since I woke up, even though he hasn't slept in our bed, which I understood as he was still mourning over the miscarriage. He was very happy when I told him I was pregnant—his treatment even changed, but the moment he found out I lost it, he got so angry that he stayed a week without talking to me. I had to beg and plead for his forgiveness even when it was his fault that I lost it. "Okay," I cleared my throat. "Please take a bottle of champagne and two glasses upstairs," I instructed her, and she nodded. But as she turned to leave, I stopped her and asked her about the roses. I had ordered them specifically for this night. If a baby was going to change his mind, then there was no time to waste as I wanted to make him happy, so I would do anything to fall pregnant again, and it just so happened that today was our anniversary.
"Yes, Mrs. Myers, the roses arrived a few minutes ago."
"Alright, take them up," I told her, and she nodded before she walked toward the kitchen.
My eyes wandered to the clock; there were only two hours left before he got back. I knew it was a lot of time, but my husband liked perfection; a little mistake can turn him off, so I quickly ran up the stairs and got in the shower.
I started by shaving my legs; he never really cared about that; he loved me just the way I was, but after losing the baby, I knew it would be difficult to get him to touch me again; I had to be irresistible. After shaving and putting myself together, I walked to the mirror and curled my hair. He liked my hair down, so I curled it and let it hang on my shoulders. I wore lingerie and a tempting nightgown.
When I was sure that my look was perfect, I ran to the bedside table and checked on my phone for time. I only had ten minutes. "Okay, everything is perfect." I took a deep breath, then walked to the table and fixed the bottle of champagne and the glasses—as I mentioned, my Diego was a perfectionist, so he paid attention to everything; even the glasses position could turn him on. Well, good thing I learned all this before our marriage.
"Good, now breathe, you got this," I told myself and then sat on the bed. I didn't know if he was starting with the food in the dining room or coming straight to the bedroom; either way, I had to be ready, so I tried my angles on the bed. I had to sit at a spot where he could see the sexy me.
I spent the rest of the ten minutes finding the right pose, so when my alarm rang, which meant it was time for him to come home, I stood up and turned it off. I walked down and met Nora. I knew it was time for her to go, so after she bid goodbye, I let her go.
"The food is in the microwave; you can just heat it once Mr. Myers returns," she said before she left.

It had been hours, and Diego was not yet back. I was sitting in the dining room waiting, and I wondered where he was. It was already going to eight; calling him would cause problems as he would call me clingy, so I dialed his PA's number instead.
"Mrs. Myers," she picked on the first ring.
"Sorry for bothering you this late; is my husband still at the office?" I asked.
"No, Mrs. Myers, Mr. Myers didn't come to the office today; he told me he was taking a day off," she explained, I regretted bothering her, so I thanked her and ended the call. If he didn't go to the office, then where was he? I stood up and paced around, then a beep caught my attention; it was a tag from social media.
I wondered who had tagged me as curiosity got the better of me. I went to the tag, and my heart skipped a beat as I saw the video. My husband was checking into a hotel with a woman beside him; his hands were around her waist, and even a child could tell what was happening. I paused the video and zoomed in on the woman's back, and it was her, his ex-girlfriend, Nelly, the woman I'd been asking him to stop seeing. I couldn't control my thoughts as they went back to the rumors that he was still seeing his ex.
I trusted him like he asked me but seeing this video confused my senses. Was this perhaps true? Was he cheating on me?

CHAPTER 2
Serene
I woke up in a room filled with it balloons and red roses the next morning, I quickly sprang out of bed and followed the flowery pattern that led to the room intended for our miscarried child.
My pulse was thumping faster, and I felt lighter; I was certain that my husband had finally come back to me. Without hesitation, I opened the door, but owing to the darkness, nothing was visible.
I turned on the lights and saw my best friend Neina with Nora and Charlotte all beaming and saying "Surprise!" to me.
"Did you do this? I questioned them not showing feeling upset that it was not Diego.
"Yes, my love, we did this to surprise you," Charlotte said as they all embraced me in a hug I wished Diego had given her. After expressing my gratitude to everyone,Me and my companions departed for breakfast, while Nora my mind started to tackle household tasks.
"Where is Diego, Serene? There is no way that I have seen him." Charlotte asked...
"Yes, Serene; where is Diego? He is meant to be with you throughout this time," Neina commented.
I did not know how to explain to them that he had not been sleeping at home since I had a miscarriage, so just stared at them with tears in my eyes; they could tell I was going through hell with Diego and asked me to stay strong, not realizing it was not because of the miscarriage but because of another woman. We finished breakfast and proceeded into the living room, while Charlotte left as her car arrived to pick her up. I informed Neina everything that had happened between Diego and I since my miscarriage, and Neina promised to talk to him about it.
"Diego is being such a moron, after all the sacrifices you have made, leaving you alone in these tough times, I think you should come to stay with me," Neina insisted.
"No, I will be fine, thank you. I shall see you as soon as I am fully recovered," I promised her.
"Are you sure he is not seeing another woman?" she inquired, pinching her face.
"Come on, there is no other lady; his aspirations of becoming a father were shattered," I responded knowing she would go crazy if I mentioned anything about what I had seen on the tag
"Serene your love for Diego is just getting over you, don't tell you haven't heard anything about what the media is saying ."
"Come on now those people will do anything to get attention and sabotage my husband's reputation,"I responded knowing she might be right
We watched a movie together before she departed. The house was empty and peaceful again, with only Nora and I inside. "Should I bring you anything, Ma'am?" Nora questioned me as she stood next to me.
"No, I am OK; just let me know when my husband comes," I responded.
A few hours later, as I was going to lock the door behind me to take a shower, when Diego walked in, furious.
"So you have gotten to the point of discussing our intimate affairs with strangers?" he remarked.
"She is not a stranger, Diego, so please do not start; so you started seeing Nelly again ?"
"Serene, honestly, I find it hard to believe you. Perhaps I should pack up everything I own and relocate, all you talk about is Nelly."
"Diego! I saw the video of you checking in with her,"I cried out
"I recently had a miscarriage, and you are having a great time sleeping out without realizing how hard it is for me to accept that I have lost our baby," I continued
"Since you believe in the media, you should probably go out of my way, Nelly is the woman I never got to have if I,"I cutted him, "Why do you do this to me Diego, I love you for God's sake."
Diego leaves me in tears like he often does, and I spend the night alone painting creams in red, with a heart breaking into pieces.
The next morning, I awoke to the sound of someone yelling next to my bed.
I looked up to see who it was and saw Diego with an angry expression.
I got out of bed and questioned, "Diego, why are you yelling so early?"
"Seriously, Serene, by now you must be aware that I am Diego Myers, not just any Geologist; why was my hammer not in the bag? I had to use a cheap hammer due to your irresponsible packing," he replied, raising his anger.
"What, no way I packed your hammer in your bag, yes I did, you can ask Nora, she watched me do that," I replied confidently.
Diego walked out on me to take a call, which seemed to have melted his mood while I requested Nora to fetch Diego breakfast; he strolled out without touching anything or mentioning where he was going.
I could not believe he would come to dispute a hammer I had prepared. I opened up my phone to find a message from an unknown number claiming to know Diego's meeting spot with another woman.
"What?"
"Is everything OK, ma'am?" Nora inquired as she stepped in to clean my room.
"Yes, just take that to the kitchen," I responded, referring to the food Diego had not eaten.
I promptly rushed to take a shower and got My pulse racing harder, and I could not believe what I had just received. I somehow began to distrust the sender, but decided to go see for myself since Diego has been acting all weird.
I walked downstairs and discovered Nora scrubbing Diego's table.
"Madam, are you going out?" Nora questioned.
"No, I am just getting something from the drugstore," I lied.
I stepped outside and discovered my favorite Mercedes was gone with Diego, so I ordered the guard to fetch me a Fortune and drove to the hotel by SMS.
When I reached the hotel, I began to feel awful about having questions about my husband, but became distracted when I saw his Mercedes in the VIP parking lot.
I leaped out of the car and went directly to the room number on the SMS because my heart was beating heavily and the thought of my greatest worries was about to come true.
I was passing the hotel doors till I came to the number on the SMS. I then carefully opened the door and found my husband, enjoying himself immensely with Nelly, his first love in bed.
