"Doubled voices?" Fannie asked him as she turned to him likewise everyone.
Everyone became stilled so that they could hear but nothing happened.
The spiky man, Declan responded to the other man who had heard wrong, "Do you think we are here for a joke?" He looked around and at each of the guards except Fannie, "We are here knowing not all will survive. It could be you if you aren't careful. We are left here by them, thinking we wouldn't see the end of today and instead of being serious now that we are complete, you are here making fun of doubled voices?"
"Declan, that is enough," the old man, in his sixties said.
Declan looked at the man and said, "How is that enough? Since you know you are going to die here after all, you want others to do the same?" As he mentioned, Fannie slowly opened her mouth instinctively in surprise.
A man, Declan's friend who was slightly older than Declan, came to drag him away from picking a fight with the elder. "Don't start this again, Declan."
