Chapitre 11: Chapter 11: Wands

The next day came and Walburga led both Daphne and me to Diagon Alley, she flooed with us to the leaky cauldron which is the famously dingy and old entrance to the wizarding world. Inside was almost empty with only a few patrons who were drinking at this time of the morning, making our way through the bar we heard various murmurs from the patrons.

After ignoring the murmurs of being dark wizards who practised illegal magic we went through the iconic brick arch into Diagon Alley proper. We only had to get two things today as we already had the potion equipment, books and telescope, the first being a wand and the more boring thing we needed was the full Hogwarts uniform. "Shall we start with the uniform since we must wait for it to be tailored?" Walburga stated rhetorically as we moved towards Madam Malkin's shop since it was the only robes shop licenced to make the Hogwarts uniform.

"Good morning, are you both for Hogwarts dear?" a cheery voice said as she saw us enter the store. "Yes we are looking for the whole uniform list for both of us, could they also be made from acromantula silk with charms for self-cleaning, durability and temperature regulation?" I stated briefly. Slightly taken aback by the costly order given to her by the child in front of her she quickly looked towards Walburga who gave a nod to confirm that what I said was correct.

"Of course, I will just take the measurements from you and then you can pick up the clothes in an hour." Madam Malkin said, Starting with Daphne she took the measurements for the clothes taking only 15 minutes. Our next stop was the wand shop, but it wasn't the famous Ollivander's we went to. The Wand emporium Walburga took us to, was down some old cobbled streets into the back side of Diagon Ally where no one ever ventured. The store had a simple cottage look and didn't even have a sign on the front but when Walburga opened the door we could see that the space had been expanded with a counter and shop floor in the front.

Materialising in front of us a wizened witch appeared, ghostly pale and translucent she gave a short curtsy while saying "Welcome to my humble home, I only sell wands to those of pure blood and distinguished history. What is the family name?" Even though she was a ghost we could tell by the way the shop reacted to her that she could control the wards and perhaps even the very shop should she find our answer unsatisfactory.

"I am from house Black but these two are from houses Greengrass and Bodewig. I do not need a wand as I still have the one you sold me last time but these two will need their first one." Walburga stated which seemed to be what the ghost was looking for as the hostility the wards were showing stopped and the woman replied, "You all are of noble lineage, please come forward and we shall find your companion."

The back of the shop was not a workshop which I expected but a large temperate menagerie of animals with a multitude of extinct animals running around. The Ghost led us to a large stone dais and she then turned towards us "All you need to do is cut your palm and place your hand on the orb in the centre this will call the animals that resonate most with your soul to this place. The core of your wand will then be made from the willingly given materials should they decide to provide any."

Daphne was first and she took the obsidian knife next to the altar and slashed her palm, placing it on the orb causing a wave of magic to wash outwards. We waited 10 minutes before a large black dragon landed next to us, it saw Daphne standing on the dias and stared at her as if inspecting her then out of its mouth came a small deep crimson flame which it caught, turning it into a crystalline gem that looked like frozen fire. The dragon left after leaving the offering which prompted the ghost to speak "A heart flame from an Artic Fury nesting mother, signifies deep strength in the bonds you make most particularly those you form with family."

It was my turn after Daph collected the heart flame, so I walked towards the altar picked up the knife, slashed at my palm and placed it down. Compared to the wave Daphne released mine was like a tsunami even buffeting the group back quite a few steps. After 15 minutes movement occurred and a large black sheet came out from the underbrush, the Lethifold rose until it was 'standing' 30 feet tall with the portion that looked like the hood of a cloak looking towards me. It seemed to be judging me until the hood gave a small dip and began to shrink, the 30-foot-tall sheet turned into a thin wispy substance until it was no longer there and all that was left was "Lethifold soul echoes, there had never been a wand made with this material as far as I am aware, I can only speculate that the wand will only bond with people who have death with them. Now that we have your core's the shape and wand wood will be the next thing we find out."

The woods with which Daphne and I bonded were not too surprising, Daphne was rather stubborn and found that ash wood suited her best. The wood that decided to match me was no surprise it was yew, an ancient yew but the surprise came when a second wood matched as well, hawthorn. "How interesting, never before has a wand made of yew and hawthorn existed. Yew is the symbol of death whereas hawthorn is the symbol of life, normally a wand of both would explode as their conflicting natures run wild."

Having found the woods for our wands the Ghost led us towards another alter, this one was surrounded by tonnes of runes and glyphs which converged around a small bowl carved into the alter. "You need to place your wand core, wood and blood into the bowl and then your personality will mould how your wand will look." The spectral lady said seemingly being the last words to us as she faded from our vision shortly after.

Yet again the lady went first, placing the Heart flame and Ash block into the bowl and then recutting her palm to add the required blood. The Alter hummed with power as the three turned into a deep black liquid before coalescing into a wand, straight in shape but engraved from tip to hilt with a delicate snowscape with a lone mountain standing tall against the wind.

As Daphne admired her new partner I stepped forward to make my wand. I did the same procedure leading to the same black liquid, similarly coming together to form a white wand with red skeletal arms reaching from the hilt with their hands outstretched grasping towards the tip of the wand. The unique look of my wand drew a gasp of surprise from both Walburga and Daphne, "It looks so hauntingly beautiful as if it is a deadly rose bush."
