"Everyone! Everyone! It's decided!" Said a guy with messy black hair and glasses. "Our practice match will be against Aoba Johsai High School, one of the top four in the prefecture."
"Seijou!?" Asked Sugawara, impressed.
"No way..." Said Yamaguchi, seeming a bit intimidated by the idea.
"HEHE, I'll be able to get my revenge against those guys!" Said Hinata while rubbing his hands together.
"It's just a practice match, winning this game won't give you any revenge points, idiot," Said Tsukishima.
"Aoba Johsai..." Kageyama whispered while trying to absorb the news he had just received.
"Oh, so you're the famous Hinata and Kageyama I've been hearing about. I'm Takeda Ittetsu, and from this year on, I'll be the club advisor."
"Sensei, how did you manage to get a strong team like Seijou to agree to a practice match with us? You didn't beg on your knees, did you?" Asked Sugawara.
"No, not this time... they just had one condition: keeping Kageyama as setter, and they also said Hinata must participate in the match," He said.
"Are these bastards underestimating us? They're only interested in testing our rookie duo and not Karasuno?" Tanaka questioned threateningly.
"This is perfect! This was the chance we wanted to test Hinata and Kageyama's strength together against an elite team!" Said Sugawara.
"But you're Karasuno's starting setter!" Said Tanaka.
"Yes... but testing their abilities against a strong team is more important," Sugawara stated.
"Sensei, are there any more details?" Asked Daichi. "Well, I know it'll be next Tuesday after classes, so there'd only be time for one match."
After the club members discussed the details involving the upcoming practice match, they left the gym and started walking home.
Hinata was walking with Kageyama and Tanaka when suddenly they saw Kageyama start running down the street towards Sugawara. He already imagined it would be to have the conversation about wanting to make clear that he doesn't think he has a guaranteed spot as setter and will have to work hard and earn it. After the two got close to the conversation, they could hear:
"But is it really okay with you? Most of the Kitagawa Daiichi members went to Aoba Johsai," Asked Sugawara.
"I don't care. Now that they're not my teammates anymore, I just want to give it my all," He said.
"But what about you, Sugawara? I... I can't stand this," Said Tanaka, distressed.
"It is a bit disappointing, but on the other hand, I want Kageyama to show that he's not the same as before and that he's better accompanied now, both by Hinata and you, Tanaka," He said, trying to lighten the mood.
"Don't say that, don't make me cry!" Said Tanaka, rubbing his eyes, making Sugawara smile.
"Exactly, let's show them Karasuno's power," Said Daichi while handing out snacks in a package to everyone.
"Hey, Hinata, why are you already eating!" Said Tanaka and Kageyama, trying to grab Hinata's collar as he managed to dodge their attempts.
"Sorry, I didn't know I couldn't!" He said while continuing to dodge.
"HEY, VOLLEYBALL CLUB, STOP MAKING A MESS IN FRONT OF MY STORE!" Shouted a blonde-haired man whom he recognized as Ukai. "Sorry," They all said while heading to their respective homes.
The next day, Hinata continued with his morning routine, but since it was Sunday, there would be no school or volleyball club meeting, so he would have the day free to do whatever he wanted. He decided he would use the day to define what his new weapon would be. He already had a powerful serve, but his attacks when it came to spiking were still very limited, so he spent the rest of the day coming up with ideas.
A day passed, and this time the Karasuno volleyball club decided to meet before classes to discuss the positions each would play for the practice match. So as always, he decided to arrive early to start training his new weapon, which he had decided would be Over the line shot, which basically consists of making the attack between the net antenna and the block.
"It's not something so simple to do, since you have to be very careful not to hit the ball out of bounds to score the point, plus it's a movement I hadn't done before, so I need to practice to avoid mistakes like touching the net when landing," He thought while trying to toss the ball up and make the attack.
"Tsk! I could have arranged with Kageyama or Sugawara to train together, doing it this way really sucks!" He thought.
After a few minutes, the rest of the group arrived and found Hinata still training.
"Oh, looks like Hinata arrived early again, guys," Said Tanaka, who was the first to enter.
"What were you training?" Asked Sugawara.
"I was working on a new weapon, a Over the line shot," He said.
"Why didn't you call me!?" Asked Kageyama, irritated.
"Yeah, I should have, but I forgot!" Said Hinata casually, leaving the others stupefied at forgetting something so trivial.
"Well, let's start talking about the positions for the practice match," Said Daichi while sitting on the floor and signaling for the others to do the same.
"Well, since Hinata and Tsukishima are our tallest players, both will play as middle blockers, so Kageyama and Hinata will form a pair at the net."
"All good for you?" He asked.
"Fine," Said Tsukishima unenthusiastically.
"It's okay with me," Confirmed Hinata, who liked playing as a wing spiker but was aware that his height would greatly benefit the team as a middle blocker.
"Now that we're finished, I can help you work on that attack of yours while class hasn't started, what do you think?" Asked Kageyama, who was excited to set for Hinata in this new style of attack.
"Of course I want to!" Said Hinata, also excited, "but now that I'm going to play as middle blocker, I think it would be useful to also practice some quick attacks using more of a quick from the net position and finish with that super-quick." The two trained normally until it was time for classes to start.
