40% GENSHIN IMPACT - DOPE: Underdogs / Chapter 2: Prologue: Dazed

Chapitre 2: Prologue: Dazed

His head couldn't stop beating in a noisy sway from left to right like a weak plant out in the open on a horrible, ferocious winter's night. Was he going to throw up because of the sound of "whatever" that's bothering him in his head? He could feel that acid juice rising up his throat, burning his as if it were boiling water on skin, but his didn't want to stain her long white t-shirt and her black cargo pants with chains in the pockets. He remembered that he had worn those clothes but he couldn't remember why. He had it on or if she had something else on, what was true was that those clothes were wet and made his skin feel cold, reminding her that his needed a sweater, or maybe a cup of tea, or maybe a sweet hug from someone, or maybe his bed. He was thinking about so many things at that time just like a ping-pong ball, jumping from one idea to another, so he didn't know what to do first. On the way he swore he saw a plant with a face laughing at his wobbling, and he had said something to that thing if its body didn't seem to move by itself and outside of itself, it's as if not even its arms or legs belonged to its body, where was it going? He didn't know, even if he asked his legs, they wouldn't know where he was going either, because it's stupid to ask your legs where they're going to begin with. Aether just walked and walked until he felt upside down, it was a funny sensation so he didn't care, but then the heat was what made her immersion in this strange scene easier. So he closed his eyes and touched his temple trying to give himself a massage to relieve that throbbing.

Suddenly, a voice began to whisper to him, and the particularity of that voice was too obvious, although the throbbing in his head was annoying, having his mother's voice accompany him made it more bearable. So he kept coming closer in search of his mother, to be able to finally remember her after years. No matter how long she had been attending therapy, her parents' faces simply remained a blur as if they had never existed in her memories. The only thing he could remember was his sister's smile and her bright eyes full of life that he once had, and just remembering her was enough to have her in front of him again, his parents also appeared at her side, but Aether was so far away that he couldn't even see them clearly, he could only see her sister in the distance. Aether could still remember her mother's clothes and perfume, just as he could remember her father's posture that was sometimes stern and sometimes sweet. He could also feel the warmth of that beautiful house that belonged to them as a family through his fingertips, just the feeling of feeling that warmth again was enough to make his heart complicate, so he stretched out his arm towards them like if he tried to reach them, but the only thing he could touch was that heat, as if he were inside a nice stove but without hurting his skin. Everything was suddenly so nice, he wished he could stay with that feeling for a long time until he could overcome that emptiness that he had avoided for years with Lumine.

"Aether, do you miss me?" His mother's sweet lips spoke in a tone he could remember all too well. Even the echo from the room made music to the young man's ears,

"Yes, yes mom. Mother! Aether exclaimed. Lumine and I have felt so alone in this house, it's hard to live with you. It's been a long time since she smiled like that, once you died, she just went out! And I miss her."

The butterflies and hummingbirds surrounded him as if they were dancing by his side and invited him to move forward, the little air that those wings threw could refresh his face, but as soon as Aether looked at his old family with bright eyes, he noticed that the faces of his parents they were melting as if they were made of wax, except for the face of his sister who was as blonde as him, she could still be unblemished, and in fact she did not react to the suffering of her parents even though they turned into human torches, he continued with that brilliant smile that he once had. Panic began in Aether at that moment, and the animals that surrounded him fell to their dead bodies set on scorching fire that wanted to calcinate their skin, but freezing as if it were snow. Indeed, he verified that he can only remember his sister's face, since she was still alive even after the accident in 2020 when they were just 13 years old.

Fire and wind as destructive elements were something that burned into their skin that day, despair and paralyzing fear also played against him in that situation. On more than one occasion, he told his therapist that he thought he could do something to avoid it, but he did not remember that he had noticed anything strange that day until now, so at that moment his mind was filled with doubts about saying something and avoiding those deaths. Because he had seen a silhouette that day when he was going to the basement, a silhouette with suitcases, it was clearly suspicious for an adult, but it wasn't an important detail for a child.

The fire consumed his parents in front of him, but it didn't consume his sister who was with him that day and saved him because she prevented debris from falling on both of them, "reaction speed" some say.

"No, mom! Don't leave me again" he exclaimed again.

Aether tried to run, but the ground sucked at her legs like quicksand making her feet sting with cold. His breathing became heavy, dizzy from not being able to breathe properly, his throat seemed to want to become a source of vomit that was going to close up.

"Mother! Dad! Lumine and I need you. This time I will save them."

"I'm not your mother, Aether," her mother murmured, stretching out her arms, not looking at her husband who had already collapsed noisily to the ground.

Aether helped herself by holding on to a plant that was about to burn, he took it in her hands watching her hand turn black, then red and back to black and she advanced towards his mother.

"You're crazy, Aether," her mother mentioned, "your mom is dead. You killed her."

"Mother! Don't say that! I will save you. Lumine!" he yelled, "Get out of there, you're going to die. I can't lose you too. You are the only thing I have left."

"I'm not your mother, Aether!" Wake up!" shout.

"I'm going to put out the fire!" Aether clarified "I got a blanket, I started reading a lot about how to act in fires after that night mom, dad. Let me save you at least once."

"Aether wake up, Aether wake up" the voice continued to plead in her head.

Tears fell down her cheeks in a very rapid transition, where was he? Why is there so much light? Why is there such a heavy metal smell? Where did that voice come from? He was just trying to drown out the flames that were on his parents while Lumine froze next to him, looking at him without blinking and with that same smile.

"The flames are dying down, mom! Look, I'm saving you. Dad resists"

The erratic movement was only distracted by that background voice: "Aether wake up, Aether wake up."

"I'm awake" Aether replied.

"Aether wake up, Aether wake up. Please, I need you."

"Aether wake up, Aether wake up. Please stop, it hurts."

When Aether took her eyes off her mother, he noticed that he was surrounded by strangers who were stealing his breath. He knew they were doing that because as soon as they got closer he was suffocating. The moment came when he simply collapsed on the ground unable to get up, his body did not respond, his tears were the only ones capable of moving in that frame.

He scanned his eyes and he saw a lot of people, he saw Lumine, he saw his parents, he saw people, a lot of people, so many people, so many people who wanted to kill him. They were taking the air out of him, his head began to ache, he managed to feel the taste of blood drain, but he saw that people didn't even move or were impressed that he managed to put out his mother's flames.

"She's dead, Aether," her mother said in a grim tone and dry voice, drawing out the next word.

"You. Killed. Her"

"Monster"

"Please stop it"

Aether suddenly felt numb, so he closed his eyes and the last thing he could see was her faceless mother's pointing finger.

"You killed her, Aether"
