Chapitre 4: chapter 4 : Manipulation

After two more days, they finally arrived in the Mole's village which actually resembled a large black market especially because of its tunnels and rare residences in the ground among the dilapidated buildings on the surface.

However, building underground was a very effective construction tactic to combat the ambient cold.

They stopped there for a short day before reporting to Castle Black where they were going to make their voluntary request.

Hours later, Jon was in the office of Jeor Mormont the Lord Commander of the Night's Watch with Benjen Stark, Eddard's brother and Jon's uncle, at his side.

They felt Jon's journey had been long so they ate something thinking maybe he was hungry because of the long drive from Winterfell.

Jon brought some good wine from Winterfell that he had already put nanites in and the three drank some, the young people could drink a limited amount of wine in the north at the table with the adults to warm their bodies.

Jeor: Young Snow, your father sent us a raven from Winterfell to warn us of your arrival here. You are still very young and although age is not too important here, I would still like to know what pushed you to leave your warm bed to find yourself here.

Benjen: Jon, why are you here?! Having my nephew here as an adult to serve with honor would have been nice but you are still much too young.

Jon: Uncle Benjen, Lord Commander, Lord Stark let me go because I proved to him that my skills were quite advanced for my age. I had no trouble getting here and I also got you 10 new recruits from the bandits who wanted to attack me on the way if I don't count my guards who want to follow me here as well.

Benjen: Jon, you're not answering my question...

Jon Snow sighed before telling them what happened with Catelyn, Robb and the others while he was in the coma.

At the end of the story, Benjen had a more than serious look on his face but Jon asked him not to say anything to Lord Stark his brother because it was actually better that way, that everything remained in its place.

Jeor: I understand better, you will indeed find a family with your brothers in arms but everything will not be rosy and-(interrupted)

Jon: Not everyone will be saints, I know that. Father told me about the situation in the Order and I know roughly what to expect. I'm not getting my hopes up but I will do my best to serve and restore the guard to the glory it never had.

Benjen: You have the right spirit but it won't be easy Jon. We lack everything and have to take care of everything.

Jeor: *Ahem* very good, tomorrow the tests and start of training will take place, you'll be trained for two months then you will have your assignments according to your skills before reciting your oaths. I can't wait to see the skills you mentioned but make no mistake-(interrupted)

Jon: I know, I'm not superior to anyone here. I grew up in a castle and had a fencing master, a privilege they didn't have. They will soon be my brothers so feeling better than them would be stupid now.

Jeor: (to Benjen) We were worried about almost nothing, the child is much more mature than his age suggests. (to Jon) In the future, avoid cutting off your superiors. You can go boy, Ser Alliser Thorne will send men to show you your dressing rooms, tomorrow we will see what you are capable of.

Jon nodded at them before leaving there and the two men stayed to discuss what happened next.

They had a fever last night from the nanites but the next day they were better than ever.

The next day, Jon and the new guys were introduced in front of the others by Alliser Thorne himself.

Alliser: Gentlemen, we have fresh meat and particularly tender flesh. Ned Stark's bastard himself is part of the new arrival and honors us with his visit. (to Jon) How was Winterfell's journey so far kid ? Cold ? Exhausting?

 Jon:…

Alliser: He doesn't speak ? 14 years old is that? This pretentious young man of barely 14 years old comes here to snub me! It seems that you brought back recruits? It's very good Lord Snow but what did you promise them?

 Jon:…

"I find your manners extremely annoying little Snow, you are no longer in the castle of your father's governor in Winterfell so stop putting on airs" He said with a little anger, poking Jon who only did look at him as calmly as possible.

Jeor: Enough Alliser, introduce the others and start testing...

"Well...of course..." Alliser said looking into Jon's eyes before letting go of Jon who just looked at him as he began to introduce other new recruits .

Alliser: Well, now we'll see what you are capable of with a sword in your hand, the Night's Watch isn't a gathering of owls who are only there to observe. We repel all enemies from beyond the wall with the strength of our arms and the use of our weapons. This is very important and this time, some of you who have received training before will face experienced sworn brothers from the guard (looks at Jon smiling)

The tests began and as expected, the level of the vast majority of the aspirants was zero but shocking demonstrations were seen among the guards who escorted Jon to the Wall.

They were strong with impressive reflexes that allowed them to win their duels without any trace of difficulty.

Jon's turn came and he wielded two blunt swords while Alliser Thorne looked on mockingly.

"Lord Commander, can I choose my own opponents?" Jon asked calmly.

 Benjen: Jon…

Jon: Don't worry uncle, I know very well what I'm doing.

Alliser: Young Lord Snow wants to show us his bastard skills? Do you think you're in a tavern to place orders?!

Jeor: (To Jon) That's right, young Snow, who do you want to fight?!

 Allyser: LORD COMMANDER ?!!

Jeor: Alliser, this is the last time you raise your voice against me...

Allyser: For this pretentious young bastard just out of his castle? He doesn't know anything about being a sworn brother of the Night's Watch!

Jon: That's why I choose you to teach me and I will learn with pleasure. I will face Ser Alliser as well as the 4 valiant fighters from earlier (his own guards). I thought I saw that they were better than the veterans present so they are the ones I want.

Alliser: If the child loses then he will be expelled for his claim.

 Jeor: Agreed.

Jon: If there is a reward for my defeat then wouldn't it be fair that there be a reward for my victory if I win?

Jeor: Within reason, I will reward you.

Quickly, they moved into position as Jon held both of his swords calmly.

The 4 guards began to attack Jon and their attacks had no restraint, they were fast to the point where Alliser could only stand there and watch as Jon elegantly blocked, deflected or dodged their attacks.

One by one, he took them out with shocking ease compared to the ferocity of the attacks coming from the four guards.

When he took out the fourth guard, he looked at Alliser before calmly walking towards him, smiling.

"Pretentious little bastard..." Alliser muttered with hatred before attacking Jon who dodged his blow while kicking Alliser's supporting leg who fell face down in front of everyone some of whom had a furious desire to laugh.

Jon let him get up with a smile, Alliser continued to attack while Jon began a series of parries but with each one he gave the weapons master a big slap until Alliser have completely red and swollen eyes and cheeks.

"You bastard...*slap* BASTAAAAAARD..." He yelled in anger as he attacked again but Jon took the opportunity to thrust the tip of his sword into Alliser's mouth, breaking a few of his front teeth in the process.

 *BRLOUGGHT*

With his mouth bleeding, Alliser fell to his knees as Jon looked at him with his constant calm.

"By my calculations, I could have killed you at least 27 times during this little exchange, Ser Alliser. I'm sorry about your teeth though..." Jon said as he slowly removed the sword from the master-at-arms' mouth.

The Lord Commander declared the fight over but Alliser grabbed his training sword to try to attack Jon whose back was turned towards him.

 Jeor: ALLISER NO!

He ignored his leader's order but he couldn't even touch Jon because one of the 4 guards grabbed his wrist and slammed him hard to the ground while Jeor ran down the stairs wooden to come before him.

Jeor: For what you have just done, I am removing you from your position as fencing master and will be confined in a dungeon until further notice.

(Looks at Benjen) This position will be yours now until they recite their oaths, you will take care of their training.

(To Jon) As for your Snow, you will be rewarded after your training.

"I thank you, Lord Commander. » Jon said respectfully bowing then he and his uncle nodded at each other smiling.

Now that he had the nanites inside him in his brain, the Lord Commander was under Jon's influence.

Out of respect for the Lord Commander, Jon had not made him a puppet but had ensured that his ideas and decisions were favored by Jeor.

The Lord Commander would not even know that he was being subtly manipulated but would now make Jon a trusted element that he would listen to. That's why the training went like this because as a normal, Jon as a rookie didn't have any possibility of requesting but his nanites were already in Jeor's brain and that made things easier for him. He had planned and calculated absolutely everything.

It was a subtle manipulation resembling Uchiha Shisui's Kotoamatsukami, The Lord Commander will think he's acting of his own free will, but that was only half true. Jon had ideas for the night's watch and having the Lord Commander's unconditional appreciation would buy him time.

Aside from that, he respected the old man too much to manipulate him completely.
