Twenty years have elapsed since the passing of the Hero Himmel - Still in the Southern Lands, specifically the City of Boden.
We see Wilhelm and Conrad enter the forest, the winds are unnervingly still, and the chatter of birds fills the air. Both Conrad and Wilhelm have an intense look in their eyes. Today was the day that Conrad defeated his first monster.
The dense foliage enveloped them as they ventured deeper into the forest, the rustle of leaves accompanying their every step. Conrad could feel his heart pounding in his chest, a mixture of excitement and apprehension coursing through his veins. This was his moment, the culmination of years of training and preparation.
A few weeks back, Albert received news from the merchant that a Geisel had attacked their carts as they traveled the countryside roads. Geisels are light gray-colored, bird-like monsters with red, pocked eyes and brown horns sticking out of their foreheads. They attacked from the skies, and ordinary people had no way to defend themselves. Albert was ready to deploy his knights and mages to kill them, but Wilhelm interjected and convinced Albert to allow him and Conrad to manage the monster. Although scared, Albert willingly agreed.
"Remember your training, always think on your feet," Wilhelm spoke first; Conrad just nodded.
The pair continued until they reached a massive hill, where they spotted a few Geisel flying on top. Conrad extended his right hand forward, summoning a sword, and then began to float. He grabbed Wilhelm, and they both soared into the air. It had been about two years since Conrad showcased his magic to his parents and his master. They were all initially shocked and requested the court mage to determine the level and condition of Conrad's magic. It was even more surprising when they learned that Conrad possessed the abilities of a second-class mage.
At the top of the peak, they began to descend. There were a total of five Geisel nesting, and one of them started to rapidly flap its wings upon seeing the pair land. It took flight, bloodlust evident in its blood-red eyes as it let out a loud screech and rushed towards them.
Wilhelm backed off, allowing Conrad to handle the monster. Conrad ran forward, drawing his sword and jumping just as they were about to make contact, landing a few meters away. He turned around and whispered, "Schneller." His hair began to move, and in a flash, he closed the distance and slashed the monster into two. The body slowly started to disintegrate.
In a matter of seconds, he turned towards the nest, his sword engulfed in flames, red fire to be exact. He began to make slashes toward the direction of the nest, calmly saying, "Vollzanbel." The slashes were fast, reducing the dust to pillars of fire so hot that the leaves on the trees around the nest started to burn. The remaining four Geisel attempted to flee, spreading their wings as fast as possible. Three of them flew away in time, but the nest as well as one of the Geisel got caught and were completely engulfed in flames. The other three surrounded him, one of them drawing its claws and attempting to grab Conrad, but he swiftly slashed the monster and killed it.
"Two left."
He pointed his sword toward the sky, and a golden light started to surround him. The light formed birds, and he again said, "Catastravia." Countless birds made of light flew towards the direction of the two monsters, a direct hit that blinded them. He jumped, and in a single slash, he beheaded them.
He slowly descended, and Wilhelm moved forward to greet his student. He smiled and said, "Well done!" patting Conrad's head. Conrad smiled deeply in return. A few hours later, they made it home.
Albert and Caroline waited nervously in front of their gates and hugged Conrad as soon as they saw him. Conrad made his way to his room, took a shower, and dressed for dinner. He was getting ready to discuss how today marked the last day he would be home; he was ready to explore the world.
