I anxiously sat at the chair he provided for me while he went and situated himself at his bed. His eyes were all over my face waiting for my mouth to part away. I thought that wasn't right, because I was a maid, had my life concerned him ?!. I was only a subject serving under him, does my story matter ?!.
I cleared my throat before I nervously spoke "I was born and raised inside the palace my mother was a palace maid as well as I am ". He frowned expecting to hear more "Is that it ?!" he asked.
Tilting his head one side, he urged me to continue as he switched his pause and laid on his bed, his one hand supporting his head.
"I'm still listening" he said.
I caught up in a sentence before he could become angry "As well as I was destined to be a maid, I served her majesty for more than a year. I heard from one of the court lady that my mother used to serve her majesty too when she was alive".
"What about your father ?" he didn't want to ask me how my mother did die instead he changed the topic.
"May I know where he is ?!"
"I never knew him" my eyes travelled to my hands which were clinging on my dress, confusion portrayed in my face.
"And I have this feeling that I don't want to know him".
"Why ?!".
"I don't know " I said. He looked at me in the eyes. "You are lonely and that's why you want to run away. I think I can understand" he confirmed.
I tilted my head as a sign of denying his statement "No you can't your highness. You are different you were born into a royal family and you are destined in that way".
"I don't think so. What I know is that you can't deny your destiny, I run once from this place but I'm back and people still call me prince". He looked away from me to the window before he could spoke again. " You can go for now" he waved his hand to shoo me away.
I thought he was tired or maybe lost interest on my story. I was delighted a little since I had to talk with someone about my personal life because I couldn't get to talk to anyone before.
I felt like some weight was lifted off my shoulder and our conversation felt more friendly. I didn't expect it from him since I was a maid and he was a prince.
Gladly I sighed before I could ask him about his pain.
Did it fade away or was he still in pain ?!, and he nodded reassuring me that he was completely fine but I felt he just wanted to skip that topic and I couldn't indulge myself asking things which were not my business.
I straightened myself before I bowed to him and turned around walking towards the door.
"Don't forget one thing I do still have to punish you if you ever run away again unless you don't need any punishment from me" he warned.
I flinched at the door just hearing his dark voice from behind.
What kind of punishment will I receive from him ?!.
I almost heard his darkly chuckle against my back when I turned around.
"I won't run away" I assured him but that wasn't sincere if I got any chance again I will probably flew away.
I continued to the door and strolled out of the room. I didn't know how much time went but judging from prince's bodyguards faces and the maidens standing outside the prince's chamber probably much time had passed.
I cleared my throat when I noticed one of the maidens who stood with the tray in her hands filled with lots of fruits looking at me with anger. Probably her knees were nearly going to bent away since she was standing there for too long waiting to get inside the prince's chamber.
I am sorry for that but it's hilarious since I am not the one who needed a long conversation inside.
I walked away to the laundry less paying attention to her since I left some work to do. Some of the clothes needed to be cleaned and I rushed away after noticing I had not much time left as I had to get it done before the night.
The night arrived and prince Asa came from his father's chamber when he met queen Melissa at the door.
She was on her way going to visit the king, he guessed.
He bowed without saying anything to her, someone could tell that he didn't want to as if it bothered him.
He made his way past her and her maidens but as always queen Melissa never had nothing to talk about.
She said " Even after seven years passed, someone does not know how to greet his mother" she made it sure he heard it because she said it louder.
Prince Asa halted on his steps and turned back to her.
Under his gaze she looked very victorious since she succeeded on getting his attention.
She smiled nearly laughing to her own satisfaction. She provoked the lion and the lion seemed easily to fall on her trap. She took her steps closer to him when she stopped she said " I didn't give birth to you but you are my son. I am married to the king and now that you should not only afraid of me as your queen but also respect me as your mother".
Prince Asa was about to laugh at her statement but he was tired, her tantrums won't get anywhere in his head.
Yes, he was used to be afraid of her words but not anymore, after only discovering that this vicious woman in front of him must have something to do with his mother's death.
He even stepped closer to her infuriating her more with his words, he said "I don't know how she could see in this if my mother was alive. You will never be my mother because you are not possibly even half closer looking like her".
He sensed his words hurt her but he didn't stop there. "I do feel pity to Adrianne because she had to have a mother like you". Now he bent closer to her face and lowered his voice only he meant for her to hear him.
" Murderer !".
The queen's face shuddered like glass and became pale as if she saw a ghost. Truly to how she reacted on that as if prince's mother's ghost has came to visit her through her son.
Asa noticed her reaction and he thought about it even more.
Could she be the one who killed his mother ?!. Did she really put poison in his mother's drink and if it was really her then she really succeeded on her plan because as much as he could remember years ago Queen Melissa used to despise his mother a lot.
Who else could it be ??.
But judging from how faster the reaction on her face faded he couldn't hold on that any longer unless he needs to investigate more on that matter.
" You are delusional prince Asa, suspecting everyone around you as a murder actually I didn't expect that from you. But I do feel pity as well since your mother died on your hands and...you know I can't keep talking about this because His majesty forbade on talking about it" she smiled. Her smile showed on her face only to hide her anger behind those green like eyes.
Asa clenched his fists understanding what the queen meant by her words.
Truly her mother died on his hands and thinking about it he couldn't let himself standing against the queen anymore.
He felt a strong pang of pain in his heart and feeling weak all over his body as a memory of his mother's death flashed in his mind.
He abruptly turned around as if hiding his face which was clearly showing his agony.
He walked away with his bodyguards trailing behind him. He was supposed to go back to his room but he went to the garden instead.
Whenever he felt devastated that was the best place to calm down his mind.
He didn't know if he was doing a right thing but he tried his best to forget that memory, that moment that always linger in his head.
Even if he wanted it to disappear from his mind like it never happened but it always come back.
