Chapitre 63: Chapter 63: Tuck’s Fierce Battle with the Wind-Patterned Tiger

"We need to be cautious this time. Stay in the outer areas, and don't even get close to the boundary between the outer and inner regions!" Rhett gripped his staff and instructed, "You must stay close to me at all times. If danger arises, I'll be able to assist immediately."

"Understood, Father," the three replied in unison.

Tuck took a deep breath, drawing his sword, his eyes filled with anticipation as he itched for a fight. Over the past weeks, he had begun to grasp the basics of Phantom Retrace and could now execute short-distance maneuvers in battle. This hunt was the perfect opportunity to test his abilities.

He wasn't afraid of combat or bloodshed; what he truly feared was becoming complacent and helpless when danger struck.

Reilly held a blue staff, its tip adorned with an ice-crystal magic gem, which would aid him in casting spells with greater power.

Rhett led the group along a relatively open path. Beneath the shaded canopy, the light dimmed, and they had barely gone far when a tiger leaped from the nearby forest.

Its body was striped white, and its dark, night-like eyes glared menacingly at the humans before it.

Roar!

Rhett concealed his aura, his expression calm as he glanced at Tuck. "A first-tier Wind-Patterned Tiger. Do you think you can handle it alone?"

Tuck's face radiated confidence as he gripped his sword and shield, stepping forward with determination. "Don't worry, Father. I want to test my combat skills!"

"Very well, but be cautious."

Tuck nodded and prepared to charge. However, the Wind-Patterned Tiger let out a thunderous roar that shook the surrounding trees, its paws glowing with a greenish light as it launched itself at him.

Rhett surveyed the surroundings—thick, towering trees, each at least as wide as a grown man's embrace and likely decades or even centuries old. He focused back on the Wind-Patterned Tiger. Like most beasts, it was territorial, and magical beasts were no exception. It was rare to see two coexisting peacefully in the same area unless they were a mating pair or part of a pack.

Rhett knew that the Wind-Patterned Tiger excelled in speed and close combat, rivaling the strength of a Flame Lion. However, it lacked magical abilities, relying solely on its physical prowess. Rhett kept a close watch on Tuck, ready to intervene if necessary.

Tuck's eyes flashed with anger and surprise. Despite his mental preparation, the tiger's speed caught him off guard. Swinging his sword was out of the question; in this situation, using his shield was the best defense.

Roar!

Bang!

The shield collided with the tiger's powerful charge, and the impact sent Tuck staggering back three steps.

"Ha!" Tuck shouted as he saw the tiger preparing to pounce again. He decided to take the initiative, his feet glowing with a fiery red light as he leaped high and swung his sword down with great force.

Clang!

The tiger raised its forelimbs, its razor-sharp claws as thin and curved as blades. Tuck's sword was deflected, and the tiger's claws recoiled from the force. Its ferocity ignited further, and it leaped into the air, a whirlwind of leaves and dirt following in its wake as its claws glowed with a faint blue light.

Tuck's expression tightened. He sensed a change in the tiger's movements and quickly began to retreat. However, his speed was just a fraction slower than the tiger's. Seeing this, Reilly raised his staff, ready to cast a spell.

"Wait," Rhett said, placing a hand on Reilly's arm. He had noticed faint traces of battle energy left in Tuck's path, barely detectable even with his keen senses as a second-tier mage.

Reilly hesitated, glancing at his father with confusion. Though he felt an urge to act, he trusted his father's judgment. With Rhett's strength, Tuck was in no real danger.

"Is Father letting Tuck handle this on his own?" Reilly pondered.

Soon, an idea dawned on him, and his eyes brightened. "Could it be..."

Roar!

The tiger's foul breath filled the air as it roared, but Tuck held his breath and tightened his grip on his sword. He was hyper-focused, and when the tiger stepped into a specific spot in its pursuit, Tuck's instincts kicked in.

Now!

With his battle instincts on full alert, Tuck activated Phantom Retrace the moment the tiger closed the distance. Reilly blinked, sensing a strange shift, and when he looked again, Tuck had reappeared behind the tiger.

"Flame Slash!" Tuck shouted internally as he slashed at the tiger's side. His sword, wreathed in red light, cut through the beast's fur and deep into its flesh.

The sound of tearing flesh and splattering blood filled the air as the tiger howled in pain. It tried to roll away, but Tuck twisted the blade, making the wound worse. The tiger scrambled to its feet, fear now replacing its earlier confidence, and prepared to flee.

"Where do you think you're going?" Tuck growled, ready to give chase.

But Rhett chuckled and snapped his fingers. A spike of earth shot up from the ground, piercing the tiger's belly.

"Tuck, you can stop now. No need to waste more energy," Rhett called out as Tuck, still ready to strike, lowered his sword. He then turned to his youngest son. "Tyles, it's your turn, my little warrior!"

"Right!" Tyles puffed out his chest, no longer the hesitant boy he once was. Gripping his two-meter-long spear, he circled around the tiger and, with precise thrusts, ended its suffering.

It wasn't that Tyles had any peculiar preferences—his strength simply wasn't enough to pierce the beast's tougher hide. Only by targeting its weaker spots could he deal a fatal blow.
