Chapitre 22: soothsayer

Master Shi De didn't know if Zagan was paying attention or not. Zagan had his eyes opened wide as if he had seen a ghost causing the old monk to instictively turn. 'What on earth is this punk staring at? I haven't even gotten to the most important part yet, he looks this shocked?' The old monk could not understand why he had that face. He then snapped his fingers jerking Zagan back to reality.

"Did you even hear a word I said?"

Zagan blinked twice before nodding and urged him to carry on.

"I asked if you knew who the underworld god was."

Zagan raised his brow in askance. He obviously had no idea who master Shi De was referring to. He then shook his head to show that he had no idea but the thought of who it might be, sent chills down his spine.

"EREBUS."

Zagan shivered. He wasn't expecting that answer. Was this the same Erebus he saw the other day during his meditation? But how can such a beautiful creature be so evil? How's this even possible? Erebus had such a beautiful and innocent face but his aura was scary and mysterious; completely contrasting his outward beauty.

"I know you must be wondering how but even I do not know the complete story."

"Anyway, back to what I was saying, With the powers that Erebus had accumulated, no god could stop him. Not even Hadad the god of the other gods. Just when all hope was almost lost, a light emerged. Two confident mortals, a man and a woman came forth and volunteered to help. Their names were Nero and Akira. The gods were not sure if it was a good idea to let mare mortals handle the problem but they didn't have an alternative and besides, It wasn't going to hurt if they tried."

"Hadad blessed them with a weapon which he forged seeing their confident and pure heart. The weapon was meant for only pure of hearts. A corrupted heart could never wield it because it would be nothing other than a regular ornamental in the hands a corrupted soul."

"These two individual, fought side by side. Battling the demon Lord and no one knew how they did it but somehow, with the combined force of the gods and those two individuals, they conquered the demon Lord and sent him to his pit trapping him there for all eternity. The forged weapon was broken into three and one part of it was used to seal the boarder of the underworld to human world. That part of the weapon, kept the pit in place to ensure that it didn't get broken."

"One of the remaining two parts of the weapon was placed in the care of the gods while the last piece was broken into two and was presented to Nero and Akira who had helped conquer the underworld god."

"The part that was given to the both individually was an example of the yin yang symbol which when put together formed a whole piece. And half of it is that amulet around your neck." master Shi De pointed out which caused Zagan to widen his eyes in realization.

"For a little while, the land returned to living in peace and harmony but somehow, darkness was still spewing out from the underground. Erebus's son was not discovered and no one knew he was still in the land and not trapped like the other demons. Cernobog was his little boy who was immortal and could spread evil to the world by just staying in the world."

"The first one who became corrupted again was Amora; the god of love and beauty. No one in the entire world could resist her beauty. She was desired by both men and women and even the gods. Well everyone except Nero. Nero was the only man in all the lands who didn't even spare her a glance. Instead of him to be on her feet begging for love, it was the other way round. She was head over heels for him but unfortunately for her, he was in love with someone else and that someone was non other than Akira."

"Amora used every means possible to seduce Nero and get him to fall in love with her. She even went so low as casting a love spell on him. The almighty god of love, abusing her powers and using such petty tricks. She also secretly tried using her belt but unfortunately for her, the more tricks she tried, the more he fell in love with Akira. Amora tried to caution herself from feeling jealous and angry but nothing could tame her anger and jealousy. The more she tries to suppress her feelings, the more they sprouted out. The only man she had ever taking a liking to loved someone else. How pathetic!"

"Slowly darkness creeped further into her soul making her believe that once Akira was dead, Nero would begin to look her way. Figuring out that this was the only way to get what she wanted, she ensured that Akira was killed. By the way, Amora and Akira were very good friends. Akira considered Amora her elder sister; telling her about everything concerning her life."

"On one unfortunately morning, Amora prepared Akira a tonic telling her that that was the best tonic in all the lands and that it would make her extremely beautiful that no one would ever take Nero away from her. How lame."

"Akira politely rejected the tonic. She wasn't interested in taking the tonic because she believed that Nero would love her even if she didn't have a face but Amora was unhappy and felt bitter about it and this was clear on her face. She complained about going far and wide just to make Akira happy by she wasn't even willing to take a sip. She kept ranting and was even on the verge of turning viotent but Akira being a pure hearted mortal, took the tonic and even gulped it all down in one go. Amora was more than satisfied with her and they chatted for the whole day. When the sun began to set, Akira was feeling uneasy her entire body was burning up. She began to turn pale; her body slowly became numb and she couldn't lift a finger. Amora was unsure what to do she put on a worried face and helped her with whatever she asked for. When Akira was completely paralyzed and lost her voice, Amora knew it would only take moments before she dies so she stood in front of Akira and smiled sinisterly. She confronted her and told her all about her plans, how she had always wanted Nero and how she poisoned her. She laughted wildly and finally said, 'Dear Akira, Everything is fair in love and war'."

"With a barge, Nero stormed in with widened eye. His eyes as bright as fire. It was then that Amora realized what she had done. She immediately vanished out of sight."

"Nero was enraged when he saw the lifeless Akira laying on the bed. He couldn't take it. He wouldn't take it. He wailed for a long time until he lost his voice. He stormed into the temple of the gods and demanded for Amora but knowing fully well what she had done, the gods hid her safely away from Nero's wrath. The tricked him into bringing justice for Akira but when Nero left the temple, the gods could not bare to turn again one of their own and deserted the temple. Some people say that they are still hidden in this temple but no one could find them."

"When Nero heard about their betrayal, he was enraged and promised to have his revenge on all the gods. He searched aimlessly but couldn't find them. It felt as though they disappeared from the surface of the earth. As the years passed, he realizes that he was ageless hence, the only way he could get the gods was if he were to be reborn. That was the only way for him to gain ultimate power so he decided to poison himself with the same tonic Amora used on Akira apparently, that was the only thing that could kill an immortal. He had been saving that poison for Amora but things didn't turn out as he had planned but before he died, he promised to get vengeance be it in this lifetime or in his next. He buried himself up in a tomb and after centuries, according to people, he was reincarnated on the day of the red blood moon."

Zagan looked anxiously waiting for the rest of the story and the old monk stared at him and sarcastically spoke

"I'm not a soothsayer I'm just telling you what history said and unfortunately that's where it stopped."

'What a cunning man' Zagan thought.
