Chapitre 7: A Sign of Misfortune

The townspeople started yelling with joy because it was rare for Lakemounth Town to get the Kingdom's attention.

Princess Ariella was a talented and smart girl. When her peers were still at the Disciple or Elite level, she had reached the Master Magician level at a young age. She was revered as the strongest magician on the Continent.

"Today, I came to pick up a Labyrinth Conqueror from this town."

The cheers of the townspeople became even more potent, and the townspeople began to face each other unanimously, asking who was the one who had conquered the Labyrinth.

"As I thought, the First Princess came here looking for you. You must flee immediately!" Ellie grabbed Evan's hand to quickly leave town.

Evan thought hard about making a decision. He wasn't just thinking about himself. However, he has a mother and sister who would become victims if he escaped from the pursuit of the Kingdom.

It was only a matter of time until Princess Ariella found him. He was sure that Princess Ariella had received complete information about him from the Sinner Brotherhood Party.

"Ellie, it's too risky. If I do it, they'll target my family, and I can't drag my family into the trouble I did. I'll face this problem myself." Evan pushed Ellie's hand away.

"No! Wait a minute Evan. Please think about yourself!" Ellie raised her voice so that her opinion could be considered by him. But unfortunately, he determined to be unanimous and unshakable.

"You're the Labyrinth Conqueror, right? Please come this way."

As soon as Princess Ariella called Evan, the townspeople stepped aside and made room for him to pass through them.

The villagers started to get excited and once again burst into applause. A Labyrinth Conqueror came from their town, which meant the town would become respectable. They would benefit from having royal support.

However, all that enthusiasm and applause suddenly became silent after seeing who the Labyrinth Conqueror really was. The man who was never even called by his name, only called Demon or Golden Eye Monster, was the one Princess Ariella was looking for.

"I am the Conqueror of the Labyrinth !?"

In front of her, He gave respect and tried to look as stupid as possible so that she doubted that he was a labyrinth conqueror.

"Please don't say as if you don't know anything. I already know everything about you." Princess Ariella spoke in a flat tone upon hearing Evan's dumb statement.

Evan was made goosebumps with her short words. He lifted his face and stared at the figure the townspeople adored.

Princess Ariella was silent for a moment as she looked into his golden eyes. "... This is the first time I've seen golden eyes bright and filled with strength."

"But I'm not as strong as you think. I'm just a Rank E adventurer." Evan showed his bronze plate.

"No matter what kind of person you were before, it is clear that you have successfully conquered the Labyrinth. Now then, we will go to Capital City. After all, there are many things you have to learn to become a knight."

All of Evan's wrong thoughts disappeared after hearing her statement. His dream, which a few days ago was still far away to be grasped, has come close to being something that can be reached with the reach of a hand.

"Even if you say that all of a sudden, I need time to prepare my heart."

"Fufu, rest assured because I will be with you and teach you many things as your senior."

After being convinced by Princess Ariella, Evan really couldn't refuse her offer.

"Okay, I understand, princess. But I asked for time to prepare before I leave town."

"Yes, you have 15 minutes. I can't wait for you any longer than that."

After Evan leaves, one of Princess Ariella's knights reminded her that their goal was to forcefully capture the Golden Eye Monster. However, she refused to do that and wanted to use her own way to fulfill her father's orders.

Princess Ariella just smiled when she saw Evan rushed over and grabbed a girl's hand.

"How about your conversation with Princess Ariella?" While running, Ellie was curious about their conversation.

"Ellie! Looks like today is my lucky day!" Evan slowed down his running speed and stopped to explain it to Ellie.

"What do you mean today is your lucky day?" Ellie's expression was a mix of worry and happiness.

"Princess Ariella asked me to become a knight in Capital City. My dream since childhood will now come true. Isn't that excellent news to tell mom." Evan told the story happily.

"B-but ..." Before Ellie could speak, Evan had her run again. Ellie also felt his happiness because this was the first time she saw such a cheerful and happy expression on Evan's face.

Arriving home, like a strong feeling from a mother. His mother seemed restless and paced by the window.

When Evan came home, his mother's worries were poured out on Evan as she welcomed him home. Even after he explained what happened to him just now, his happiness was not conveyed to his mother.

When Evan looked back, he saw the reason why his mother was so worried about him. On the table, he saw a portrait of himself with a broken frame.

He knew that it was a bad omen for him, and there would be misfortune he would experience if he took Princess Ariella's offer. But, taking the offer allowed him to fulfill his dreams and save his family from the pursuit of the Kingdom.

To convince his mother, Evan asked his mother not to work because he would send some money and promised that he would return to Lakemounth once a year or at the most 4 years.

Hearing Evan's determination, his mother could only wish the best for her son.

Before leaving, Evan put a diamond necklace around his mother's neck and left one more necklace for Liliana, who was still sleeping.

As Evan walked out of the house, Ellie leaned back and waited for him with a gloomy expression.

"Are you leaving already?"

"Yes, I still have 6 minutes left."

"Erm, if you go, can I still come to your house?"

"Yes, I hope you will come here often. To just play with Liliana or take care of my field, hehe."

"Who wants to take care of your fields? This time I can no longer protect you from bullies. You must be able to fight them yourself."

"Yeah, I can't keep depending on you either, Ellie. I'm going first!" Evan walked away from Ellie and waved.

As Evan had walked further, Ellie sensed that she had something to say before it was too late. "E-Evan! I li-like you!"

"Yes, I like you too."

"...But as a friend, nothing more!"

"Yes, I already know."

Ellie smiled with flushed cheeks. It was the bravest thing she had ever done to a man. However, she did not regret it and hoped that her relationship with Evan would not strangle after being in Capital City for a long time.

As Evan walked towards downtown, several residents began to cheer and bless him with their words. Although it wasn't much, it really ignited Evan's spirit to become stronger, and could change the minds of people in the world about the legend of the golden-eyed demon.

Riding a horse-drawn carriage, Evan headed to Capital City.
