Chapitre 65: Chapter 65: life

Sitting on a chair near the window, the young man looked at the people below. Many walked through the streets as they went to their destinations. Some opened their stores as they welcomed the morning rush.

Each of them was living their own lives in the way they knew possible. Some took new roads they had never taken before, while others seemed lost as they guided themselves through the mist of everyday difficulties.

And then there is him, the one watching them as he slowly contemplates questions he seemingly has no chance of ever answering.

"Bro, why don't you come here and grab a stick?" Someone said to the young man, Not too far from him. With two others, he had a bucket full of drumsticks right on the table. The three dived in on the meal as they dunked the drumsticks in a specially made sauce. With the bread, fries, and sodas, it made for a hearty meal.

"Have you guys ever felt like your body is controlling you?"

"Please don't tell me you're at it again." One of his friends said

But the Young man didn't seem to care. He only continued looking down below with a 'wise' look. "Think about it. Most of the things we do in life are done to meet the demands of our bodies. Eating, breathing, and all the other everyday actions"

"So we can live dumbass. Sigh~ Bro, you know wearing glasses doesn't necessarily mean you are smart, right? This isn't an anime. Go and get some contacts already."

Ignoring the second half of his friend's words, the young man continued. "Exactly. We do it all to live. But do we have to? Do we need to live? We spent so long with our lives, for what?"

"Enjoying... life?" one of his friends licked his fingers.

"Dude, don't encourage him!"

"Happiness. Something we constantly pursue in everyday life as though it is the very meaning of our existence.

"But think about it clearly: our brain has many lobes and parts, all geared towards making us have emotions. Fear, anger, sadness, and even our prized happiness From the moment we are born, our body is able to produce happiness.

"So why does it not make us happy all the time? Why does it not pump us with all the dopamine we could get until we die? Why does it make us not happy but sad all the time?

Instead, we have to do certain actions before we get rewarded with these hormones. And when we do something 'bad,' we get punished with bad emotions.

"Doesn't this sound familiar? Don't we train our dogs to behave this way? So what if we are dogs? Trained to pursue happiness, no different from how a dog craves praise from its master?"

After that, the room grew silent. Although the three felt like something wasn't right, they couldn't refute his logic.

"I don't know about that, but what I do know is that you aren't getting any of this if you keep doing whatever you're doing right now." With that said, he bit into a drumstick he had in hand. Seeing their friend taking a step further towards finishing the bucket, the other two no longer dwaddled.

"I guess it's similar to how our bodies have, over time, evolved to love eating food. So rather than eating to fill their stomachs, most people now eat because of the taste of food. Is this also the plan made by the one above all of us? The creator and controler behind the scenes?

"We don't really love eating, do we? Our bodies were just designed to crave and enjoy it. Maybe fattening us till one day we die. And then maybe our souls or something else will be taken and used as food for a higher being. Maybe that's what is beyond the mysterious black void known as death."

Without wasting any more words on the young man, one of the three stood up and lifted the bucket.

"Let's get out of here."

"Agreed."

"Yep."

So the tree took the food that the young man was supposed to eat and left the room. Watching them leave, the young man sighed lightly.

It was not that he asked these questions to annoy his friends; he just really couldn't stop thinking about them. Every time he sits down, some seemingly random question pops up. Even for the simplest things, it seems like there are some sort of profound questions hidden deep within that he, for some reason, has never thought of till then.

The young man sighed once more. He looked outside at the bustling streets. People went from one destination to the next, each living their lives. But as he watched these people, it seemed that they were all following some sort of written plot. Like everything they are doing is just destined. And no matter what they do, the inevitable end will one day...

"Hm?"

Suddenly, the young man saw something that seemed out of the ordinary. Walking with the many people in the streets, she, for some reason, stuck out like a sore thumb. The clothes she wore were a bit unusual, and the way she walked was as if she were lost. But what drew the young man onto her most was that she looked familiar.

"Doesn't she look like the little girl who died yesterday?"

The more he looked, the more similar she became to the girl from yesterday. Even the clothes she wore were the same. Although at that time the young man had not gotten that close a look at what she looked like, something within him seemed to be telling him that it was her.

The young man's eyes widened, and many emotions flashed through his face. Surprise, confusion, and fear—all these emotions were slowly replaced until only one was left.

Eagerness.

"Isn't this my chance to find the answers to the questions I seek?"

If that girl was truly the same person as the one he had seen yesterday, doesn't that mean she had been resurrected from the dead? If so, then how?

So many more questions came with this new possibility. So much so that he didn't even notice when he got out of the building and found himself in the streets. With so many people passing through, the young man had lost sight of the little girl.

So he looked to the left, where the young girl seemed to have been headed. And he started running in that direction. On the way, he passed and bumped into some people. But at that moment, he didn't care. For the first time in his life, he seemed to have found something beyond what was predestined. Something is not normal. Something beyond regular comprehension. Something...

Supernatural.

So without stopping he ran. But suddenly, he heard the sound of car tires screeching against the concrete road.

Bam!

He heard a banging sound not far from where he was. A premonition came to mind. One that seemed to get more true as he saw people suddenly crowd up. Running off towards the growing crowd, the young man pushed himself forward to see what exactly was so interesting.

And sadly, it was as he had thought. Laying there on the ground was the young girl he had been chasing all this time. Blood pooled on the ground from the previous injuries she had sustained.

Dead...

Looking at the girls lifeless body a question, the young man was shocked.

'Is that a tail?'
