Douluo Dalu: Reincarnated as Yan, Never Be a Simp Again

Yo, I'm from the future. I read the raws, it had 229 chapters. To be honest, I was in love with this novel in the first half, but things started going downhill after the Continental Elite Young Soul Master Tournament arc. The writer got unbelievably lazy and mostly speedran through the novel. Especially the last chapter. Don't be too turned off, it still has its strengths. For one, the mc is decently smart and doesn't fall into too many stereotypes, his development is good too. But the development of the earth side of his martial spirit was completely off-screened. He mostly focused on the fire side and neglected the earth side. He got the Fire God's inheritance first, and it was pretty well-written, but his inheritance of the Earth God's position was off-screened, limited to a few final words in the last chapter. For a wish-fulfilment type novel, it was a dumb and lazy thing to do. And let's not talk about his bullshit devouring flame that he got from a 10k years old spirit bone, it completely broke the setting of the novel. And most importantly, the thing I hated the most in the novel, his harem. To be honest, it's a pretty modest collection compared to others, but his relationships were entirely skimmed through and underdeveloped. He had 3 wives, Shui Bing'er, Ye Lingling, and Qian Renxue. It followed the same formula, girl inexplicably catches feelings, somebody tells him, and he accepts girl's feelings. Entirely skimmed through. At least the first two girls spent some time getting to know him first, but Qian Renxue especially had no reason to fall in love with him or become his mistress, or concubine. She literally did it for an heir, like an arranged marriage or some shit. I've already mentioned the worst part of the novel is the pacing, but the thing I found most annoying among everything is his neglectful attitude towards Tang San and the main cast. For real, he had so many opportunities to kill Tang San and many other members of the main cast, and although he kills some, most of them survived until the final battle. It was entirely a plot device forced by the author. I understand mc might not have the perfect opportunitu to kill Tang San or others, but shouldn't he at least stop their lucky encounters? When he plundered Dugu Bo's garden the first time, he deliberately left behind many good herbs for later, many of which ended up in the hands of the main cast and helping. He could've just plundered the entire garden and avoided it. He could've tried hunting for the Man-Faced Spider that gives Tang San his external spirit bone, but he didn't. He knew where Ah Yin was, and when Tang Hao would be guarding there and when he would not, but he didn't take the free 100k y/o spirit bone. He could've burned the Blue Silver Forest with the help of Yue Guan and Gui Mei, but he didn't. He knew Xiao Wu was a spirit beast, but didn't take care of her early on so she doesn't sacrifice herself to Tang San, and guess what, she does and ends up saving Tang San from another life-death-encounter with the mc. It's bullshit. Honestly, it's a 3 star novel for me, but I still speedran it in a matter of a day, so I feel compelled to give it a generous 4 stars. I liked the chinese author's other book, with Feng Xiaotian as the mc, more.
