Chapitre 4: Chapter 4
They start the truck and the lights come on shining on six people that had similarities to the man they saw earlier except a couple were females, they all had different wounds on their bodies except for one female who was fully naked.
" W-Wait what about Lukas " Lydia said looking back at the house, Monroe drives closer to the house then blows the horn and a couple minutes later Lukas comes running from around the house with his father chasing behind him so he lunges in the back of the truck bed slapping the window leaving blood smeared on the window.
" GO... DRIVE NOW !! " Lukas shouts as Monroe slams down the gas taking off, when they look around they see over a dozen of those things around.
" Look it's Kenny family " May said looking at the two young children who had chunks of flesh missing from their face and neck, Lukas pulls his belt from his pants tying it around his lower arm where he had a chunk torn out from his forearm.
" keep going to town, flag down the sheriff when he passes " Lukas said through the back window then gives a small smile to Lydia, they drove for over a half hour and Lukas could feel himself slowly getting worse.
" Lydia have them stop by the warehouse up on the left" Lukas said as they saw a large building on the left of the road.
" Lukas why do we need to stop here, what about warning the town and what if the sheriff passes by " Barnes said when he got out of the truck with the others and when he looked at the boys lake face he shut up.
" dad bit me so I don't have much time until I'm like he is" Lukas said with a sad smile as his mother starts to sob, Lydia looks at the wound and notices the same rotten smell from him as their father.
" he's right, he's showing the same symptoms as dad did" Lydia said grabbing the keys her brother pulled out from his pocket.
" grab axes or anything you can use for weapons plus chains and ropes for me " Lukas said as Barnes helps him out of the back.
" Monroe in the office is a gun cabinet, grab the guns and shells then will leave after you all tie me up" Lukas said as they all enter the warehouse helping Lukas sit down while they grab things they might need.
" Barnes help me load this up then get the keys to that van, we will need to stop to grab our families first before we go into town " Monroe said as he loads two large duffle bags with the weapons from the gun cabinet, he was surprised when he found a box of dynamite beside the cabinet.
" Ok will take two vehicles to stop by my place and then Barnes before we head into town, Lydia while we make your brother comfortable in the back and get on the CB to see if you can reach the sheriff." Monroe said as they tie Lukas up.
" get those to put on my mouth if they bite you then you'll be like them " Lukas said as Monroe nods his head then does what Lukas told him to do then they all load up in the truck.
" Monroe its all silent " Lydia said, she grabs a pump action shotgun setting it across her lap with her mother holding her son's rifle.
" we've lost them both haven't we " May said with a shaky voice holding her daughters hand, she glances back at her son who is laying on a blanket and pillow in the back bed of the truck.
" what is wrong with these people...how are they like this" May said when they saw an old lady staggering on the road where Monroe slows down looking at the old woman's face.
" it's June...she died two days ago " Monroe said as the radio squeaks with Barnes saying the same thing as they turn down the road to where his farm is located.
" ok you two stay here, I'll leave the keys for you and if you spot anyone honk the horn" Monroe said running inside his house and twenty minutes later he brings out his wife, children and his mother leading them over to the van where Barnes is.
" okay I'll grab these two boxes of food then will go to your house " Monroe said running back to come out with two large boxes putting them in the back of his truck beside Lukas who started to have a grey tint to his skin.
They went to Barnes grabbing his wife and son with more supplies including gas and water then they headed to town.
" Barnes you all keep all the doors locked and don't stop for anyone, we will check the sheriff to see if he knows about this and if he does or if he is already like those things then we'll grab some ammo with more guns." Barnes said over the radio to which Monroe agreed with as they pulled into town which was deserted, they all looked around to where they spotted a few cars in the middle of the road with blood splattered on them.
" well it seems they've found out already" Monroe said over the radio when they pulled up to the station, they looked through the windows of the station not seeing anyone inside so Monroe and Barnes exited the vehicles to where the women get behind the wheel.
" don't open for anything until we come out with what we need then we'll head out to the next town " Monroe said while both of them walk into the station where they heard a couple of voices shouting from where the cells are.
" let's check it out, we'll release them with some weapons and get out of here " Barnes said going over to the two large gun shelves loading up three duffle bags with Ammo, guns and some gear.
" lay some of those out with ammo on the desks, I've got the keys to the cell " Monroe said cocking his shotgun before entering the room that has eight large cells inside, they seen a few men reaching through the bars toward two women who are hugging each other in the middle of their cell with two men on the opposite side shouting at the infected to leave the girls alone.
" Barnes get the girls out and check them for any bites....Listen if you were bitten you need to tell us so we can treat you " Monroe said looking at the men and women who Barnes just released, they all shake their heads no.
" ok the last cell—" Monroe said when they saw the man soaked in sweat with a pale face, they looked down and saw blood on his pants.
" whose blood is that " Barnes said stopping from opening the cell, he grabs a few bottles of water with some food dripping them inside the cell.
" he smells like Lukas " Barnes whispered in Monroe's ear, he looked back over the four they let out and noticed the women there are their friends children.
" Taylor, Lia where Tommy at " Monroe said pulling the girls outside that room with him, he hands them each a gun with a box of ammo.
" he's at the hospital, someone attacked him at the bar this morning" Lia said walking over to the desk grabbing a shotgun and handing her sister the rifle after loading it, he nodded his head.
" ok you two will ride with me while you two men can stay here or find your own way, we have no more room and the back has supplies plus one of those things which we'll have to leave him here" Monroe said when Lias eyes went wide when she heard about Lukas.
" what happened to him." Lia said pulling on a sheriff's jacket while handing her sister one, she grabs three sets of car keys then throws a set to the men who grab some weapons and ammo.
" one of those things which was his father got him, I'd say he's already the same as them." Monroe said pointing back at the cells where the infected is.
" we'll follow behind you Monroe in case we will need another car plus I'm going to get mom she's at the apartment knocked out " Taylor said making the men all nod their heads then look over at the two men who looked at each other.
" can we follow you all, we work at the lumber mill and we don't know anyone here or this place that well...I'm Zack and this is my boyfriend Alex" Zack said when all four people nod their heads.
" ok we've spent enough time here let's go " Monroe said as all six of them exit then the other four quickly enter a car and a SUV.
" I figured Lia would get that one, let's head out of town we will figure out where to go after we pick Dara up" Monroe said over the radio getting a yes response from both vehicles when they drive to the edge of town where a four story apartment building is at.
" ok you all wait here and we will get her we're on the first floor." Lia said when Zack gets out while the other two stay behind the wheel of the cars.
" ten minutes Lia grab her and get back out here " Monroe said looking around the area for any movement while they enter the building, they exit with Zack carrying Dara over his shoulder then throws her in the back seat of the SUV then gets back in the car.
" let's go " Lia said getting in the passenger side and they all follow behind Monroe and Barnes leaving their small town behind taking the back roads that the locals know.
They picked up radio chatter that was coming from the army, they are planning on sweeping the town in about an hour and clearing out the place of any civilians.
" Monroe should we talk to them." Lia said over the radio and he signals them all to pull over so they let everyone take a break to stretch their legs and he walks over to where May and Lydia were staring at Lukas who was trying to thrash around.
" will you set my brother out " Lydia said taking her safety off of the .38, the two men look at May who nods her head then walks away.
" Thank you for protecting us bubby I'll survive and I won't let you suffer anymore" Lydia said shooting him in the head, she takes a jug of gas out then pours some over his body then sets it on fire.
