Chapitre 1: Amayra

3rd December, 2023.

The day everything in my life went downhill.

I met with a horrible accident. Spent two months in coma. When I became conscious, the doctor said, I needed a wheelchair and might depend on it forever.

 devastation was an understatement.

After thousands of attempted calls and texts, I officially accepted that my boyfriend left me to suffer alone.

One of my colleagues visited me one day with flowers. . . and a letter.

" Termination due to physical Incapacity"

I wasn't the same as I used to be.

The woman brought to this hospital was normal and happy. She had a stable job and a boyfriend she loved so much. She had everything she could ask for.

However, The woman who left was miserable. disabled. She lost her job. The person she loved with everything she had, abandoned her.

A few days under Doctor's observation, before I was discharged.

I was having my breakfast, the nurse packed my stuff, including my medications.

Her name was Jenelia. Probably in her 20s. Always energetic. Easy to get along.

Almost 6 ft tall. She had these round eyes and pretty pouty lips. Her skin matched the shade of burnt sand.

" Jenelia, can you please take me to the billing section after this? "

After helping me change into fresh pair of clothes, she was combing my hair.

" No need to worry about the bills, Miss. Mansfield. They are already taken care of."

I frowned,

" Who paid my bills, Jenelia?"

" Your boyfriend. "

" Liam? "

" Well, that's a hot name for a hot dude. You're lucky one"

There was a knock on the door. A head peaked through the creak,

" May I come in? "

" Caleb? "

Caleb Andrew Larson, My neighbor. He waved at me, smiling as always,

" Hi, Mayra. "

I politely smiled back, "Come in."

" Imma go arrange the discharge papers. See you at the reception. " Jenelia excused herself, leaving us together.

"How are you doing? " He asked, dropping himself on the stool across from me.

The white T-shirt and grey joggers enlightened his soft and caring personality. Wavy hair perfectly styled. Matching black boots. He always had this friendly, approachable aura. Always bright.

However, His whole personality shifts when he puts on work attire.

If people see him in casuals, No one will believe this is the CEO of one of the famous Automotive Companies in Heilferd.

" Good. . . What brings you here? "

His brows raised," Am I not welcomed here? "

" I didn't mean that."

" You meant what? "

I sighed, " Andy, don't make me talk much. I am weak. "

" I apologise." He bowed.

I rolled my eyes.

" I came to take you home." His hands relaxed on the edge of the bed, eyes never leaving mine.

I looked at him, bewildered, "How do you know I will be discharged today? "

" I just know. "

" An-"

"shh,"

his index finger laid gently over my lips, silencing me, "Don't talk much, Mayra. You're weak ."

His eyes fell on my lips for a mere second. He must be proud after sticking my own line to me, leaving me amused.

" Now, shall we leave? "

Giggling, I pushed his finger away with my index, "Yes sir. "

He carried me and gently seated me in the wheelchair. While he was busy picking my stuff, my eyes landed on those Tiger lilies lying above the table beside my bed. Since I got my sense back, someone kept sending me these lilies every day. It can't be Liam, has is allergic to flowers. Who is this person? Do I know this person? Why is he/ she/ they sending me flowers? Why tiger lilies?

" give me those lilies, please "

Caleb looked at me, and then at those flowers, " they're dried already, Mayra. I'll buy you a new bouquet. "

" Andy, I want those dried ones. "

He sighed, defeated." What's so good about these dead flowers? " he asked, ditching them on my lap.

" I don't know. I just don't want to leave them behind. "

It felt like I had not breathed in fresh air for years. I missed

the sun. I missed the crazy traffic of Heilferd. I missed the

street food. I missed the chirping birds, the cottony blue sky,

and the soft breeze. Mostly, I missed watching people.

"-something? "

I felt left behind. Two months is a long period in this fast-paced

world. In the race of life, I had to resume while everyone advanced toward the finishing line.

" -Mayra. ."

with the disadvantage of being disabled, I became a snail, racing with horses.

"Mayra~"

I snapped out of my thoughts.

" Yeah? "

My attention drifted toward Caleb. One hand on the steering wheel, the other rested on the gear. Eyes on the road.

" You were saying something? "He glanced at me,

" I was asking if you would like to grab a bite. "

" Yeah, sure. I need spicy food." Biriyani, roti, chicken curry, pizza, Burger….my mouth watered just at the thought of them.

" The food in the hospital sucks, huh? "

I cringed, " Don't remind me, man — my taste buds are on the verge of dying. "

" Don't fear when Caleb is here, sunshine. "

That caused me to smile straight from my heart—something I have not been doing recently. This is what I like about him. He is so warm he can melt ice. He sprinkles glitters of happiness wherever he goes.

" I think the nickname suits you better" I complimented, " it's difficult to stay gloomy around you."

" Well, then I gotta keep you around me," He said, causing me to laugh.

Caleb parked the car before killing the engine. He unbuckled his seatbelt. I was doing the same when I felt him close to me. Eyes settled on mine, " —And the nickname might suit me, but it was made for you."

" No, Andy — I am afraid I will never shine again." After all of this, I couldn't see myself shining, not in this lifetime, never. All I could see was pitch-black.

Andy gently took my hand in his. He smiled—and I melted, "The sun always shines, Mayra. It's the clouds that arrest the rays sometimes. One day, it will rain, and the sky will be as clear as a mirror. Then, we will see the sun shining as bright as ever. "
