Third Arc (Fallen Heart) - 332. Juicy Gossip

Angel cleared his throat, trying to steady his voice. "Last night was… a bit intense," he said, choosing his words carefully, though he could feel the embarrassment creeping up his face. He was a king, accustomed to handling affairs of state, military strategy, and political negotiations, but discussing the details of his private life—especially something so personal—was entirely different. He forced himself to maintain his usual stony demeanor, though the heat rising in his cheeks betrayed him.

"I guess I was a bit rough," he added, attempting to sound matter-of-fact, though internally, he was wincing at the admission.

Cley, seated nearby, was quick to notice Angel's rare display of embarrassment. The edges of his mouth twitched as he tried to suppress a chuckle. 'Oh… he's embarrassed,' Cley thought, thoroughly amused. In all the years he had served Angel, he had never seen him like this—awkward and clearly flustered. It was a sight he would likely remember for a long time.

Sarah, on the other hand, remained oblivious. Her role as the head housekeeper meant she was practical above all else. She looked at Angel with a professional expression and said, "Shall I prepare some things to help Her Highness feel better? Perhaps a warm towel or some herbal tea that might ease any discomfort?"

Angel gave a small nod. "Yes, that would be helpful," he said, though his mind raced with the thought of Rose's reaction when she found out that the staff had discovered the blood. He imagined how mortified she would feel, knowing their privacy had been somewhat invaded by outsiders.

Sarah continued, her tone still calm and efficient. "Or, if you prefer, I can have a doctor examine her. That way, we can ensure Her Highness is in good health and give her any treatment she may need."

The suggestion made Angel pause. His immediate instinct was to refuse—it felt invasive. Having a doctor examine Rose would not only confirm that she had just lost her virginity, but it would make the intimate details of their marriage even more public. The last thing Rose needed was for the court to start gossiping about something that should remain between them. However, Sarah's suggestion was made out of concern, and Angel knew that she was only trying to ensure Rose's well-being.

He hesitated for a moment, weighing his options. "I'll leave that decision up to her," Angel finally said, his tone softer. "She is a doctor herself, and if she feels the need for a consultation, she will say so. But I don't think it's necessary unless she asks for it."

Sarah nodded. "Very well, Your Majesty. I'll make sure everything is prepared to make her comfortable," she said, her tone returning to its usual brisk efficiency.

Once Sarah turned to leave the room, Angel leaned back in his chair, exhaling quietly. He was grateful that the conversation was over. Yet, he realized, the privacy he and Rose had cherished was no longer entirely theirs—not in a palace where every action was noticed, where even the most intimate moments became known through the smallest of details, like a trace of blood on a bedsheet.

'I bet this will turn into juicy gossip for the whole castle in no time,' thought Angel.

Cley, however, had not moved from his spot. The entire time, he had remained quiet, trying to appear focused on the documents in front of him, though his ears were clearly attuned to the conversation. He had long since learned to keep his mouth shut in situations like this, especially when it involved matters that were clearly none of his business. Still, the temptation to make a comment lingered—he had never seen Angel this out of sorts. The great King Angelus, who had led armies and conquered kingdoms, was visibly uncomfortable discussing the aftermath of his wedding night. It was funny! Too funny!

Desperately, Cley pressed his lips and covered his mouth to hold his chuckle. But it was really hard to stay quiet. Sarah exited the room, leaving the two men alone. Cley finally let out a soft chuckle, unable to hold it back any longer. It escaped just like that despite his desperate attempt.
