Chapitre 1: System

On a scorching sunny day, the air heavy with humidity, a woman stood in front of a weathered old house, a moving truck parked nearby.

Her voice, sharp with admonishment, filled the air as she scolded a young man who stood before her, his features still carrying traces of youth.

"Come on, Lin Xiao, I thought you went to the gym. Why can't you pick up these boxes?"

A middle-aged woman scolded, eyeing her son struggling with the load.

Despite his handsome features, the boy, a little on the chubby side, wore a pained expression as he hoisted the boxes.

"Mom, I only hit the gym for like two days, and then suddenly we're moving to another city. Cut me some slack,"

Lin Xiao retorted, his face a mix of frustration and resignation.

"You really want to fight with me on our first day in this new city?"

Mother Lin's eyes flashed with a hint of anger as she spoke.

"Sorry, Mom"

Lin Xiao quickly interjected, sensing the tension in her tone.

Seeing the fear in Lin Xiao's eyes, Mother Lin's voice softened. "Quickly, pick up these boxes and put them inside," she said, her tone gentler now. "I have a really good gift for you if you do it before evening."

"What's the gift?"

Lin Xiao's eyes lit up with excitement, his energy renewed at the promise of something special.

"Now that we have a bigger house, I thought I could finally let you get a cat that you always wanted,"

Mother Lin said with a smile, her eyes reflecting Lin Xiao's joy.

Hearing the mention of a cat, a voice suddenly chimed in from inside the truck—it was Lin Xiao's younger sister, Lin Meiying.

"No, Mom, you can't do that! You know I hate cats, they're so mean,"

Lin Meiying protested, her expression turning sour.

"Shut up! Have you seen your grades from last year? Don't ask for anything from me until you start getting better grades,"

Mother Lin snapped back, her frustration evident in her tone.

Hearing those words, Lin Meiying quickly fell silent. On the other hand, Lin Xiao couldn't help but chuckle. Caught in the act, Lin Xiao's expression swiftly shifted to innocence as Lin Meiying shot him a glare that could melt steel.

"Lin Xiao, come here quickly and take this box back to the attic. It's some stuff of your grandfather's,"

Mother Lin instructed, handing a box filled with antiques to Lin Xiao.

Lin Xiao swiftly took the box and disappeared into the house.

Lin Xiao's new home was a relic from another era, an old-looking house that had seen its fair share of years pass by.

Despite its weathered exterior, it held a certain charm, with its quaint architecture standing proudly against the test of time.

Surprisingly, Mother Lin had managed to snag it for a steal, the price reflecting its age and need for some tender loving care.

Inside, however, was a different story. The interior of the house boasted a more modern aesthetic, with all the conveniences one would expect in a contemporary dwelling.

The layout consisted of four spacious rooms, each with its own bathroom, providing ample space for the family to spread out and make themselves at home.

Despite its age, the house had been carefully updated with all the modern features and amenities one could desire, striking a perfect balance between old-world charm and present-day comfort.

Lin Xiao ascended the creaky ladder leading to the attic, its rungs coated in a thin layer of dust and adorned with wispy cobwebs, a testament to the neglect this space had endured over the years.

As he reached the top, he pushed open the attic hatch, revealing a dimly lit room shrouded in shadows.

The attic was eerily empty, its vast expanse echoing with the faint sound of Lin Xiao's footsteps against the wooden floorboards.

The air was thick with the scent of must and age, adding to the atmosphere of mystery that permeated the space.

Scattered across the floor were a few wooden boxes, their surfaces worn and weathered from years of storage. They seemed to beckon to Lin Xiao.

"Mom, the cleaners forgot to pick up some boxes!"

Lin Xiao's voice echoed from outside, carrying a hint of frustration.

"I know about those boxes. The cleaners mentioned they're bolted to the floor for some reason. Let them be; it's not like anything's going to happen. Besides, they're all empty anyway,"

Mother Lin replied with a dismissive wave of her hand, unconcerned by the forgotten remnants stored in the attic.

Hearing his mother's words, Lin Xiao's curiosity piqued, and he began to inspect the boxes more closely.

Suddenly, he felt a strange sensation emanating from one of them—a faint glow illuminating its surface.

"Huh? What was that?"

Lin Xiao muttered, his attention now fully captured by the mysterious box.

Lin Xiao approached the box that had caught his attention. Carefully, he lifted the lid and peered inside, expecting to find emptiness like the rest.

To his astonishment, nestled within the darkness of the box lay a peculiar sight—a golden antique pocket watch, its surface gleaming as if untouched by time.

His eyes widened in disbelief as he reached out to pick up the watch, its weight reassuringly solid in his hand.

Despite its age, the watch showed no signs of rust or wear, almost as if it had been placed there only moments ago.

Right as Lin Xiao's fingers closed around the watch, a sharp prick pierced his skin, causing him to recoil with a startled cry.

"Ouch!"

Lin Xiao exclaimed, wincing as he watched a drop of blood stain the pristine surface of the watch.

As the watch absorbed the blood, a strange phenomenon unfolded before Lin Xiao's eyes. The golden timepiece began to glow with weird golden light.

Before Lin Xiao could even let out a scream, the watch emitted a blinding light that enveloped him entirely.

In an instant, the watch seemed to liquefy, its form morphing into a bizarre glow that surged into Lin Xiao's body.

He felt a jolt of power coursing through him, an indescribable sensation that left him breathless and disoriented.

Then, as swiftly as it had begun, the light faded, leaving Lin Xiao standing in the attic, his chest heaving as he tried to make sense of what had just happened.

[Supreme God System Initialized]

As the words "[Supreme God System Initialized]" reverberated through Lin Xiao's mind, he was jolted by the unexpected sound.

Startled, he glanced around the attic, searching for the source of the mysterious voice.

"Who's there? Is that you, Meiying?" Lin Xiao called out, his voice tinged with uncertainty as he scanned the empty space around him.

[Congratulations on becoming the second owner of the Supreme God System, Host]

the voice in Lin Xiao's head said, breaking the silence of his thoughts with its unexpected proclamation.

Lin Xiao was once again taken aback by the voice echoing in his mind. It was like something straight out of the novels he loved to devour, where protagonists wielded extraordinary powers through those systems.

Pinching himself to check if he was dreaming, he couldn't shake off the disbelief that he, too, now possessed such a system.

"What are your functions, System?"

Lin Xiao asked, his words fueled by curiosity and excitement, without even entertaining the thought of hallucinations or anything of the sort.

[I have a lot of functions, host. They will automatically reveal as you level up. My final goal is to make you a Supreme God]

"what are the functions available right now?"

Lin Xiao asked eagerly, his curiosity tinged with a longing for something extraordinary.

He had always felt average, neither particularly handsome nor athletic, and he saw this system as his ticket to becoming more than just ordinary.

[Level one Functions:- Status, Daily Missions]

"That's it?"

Hearing those functions, Lin Xiao's initial disappointment was evident, but it quickly dissipated as he remembered the potential for more functions as he leveled up. His optimism returned, fueled by the promise of greater capabilities in the future.

"System, show me my status window,"

Lin Xiao said, his excitement palpable as he anticipated seeing what his status window looked like.

[Status Window]

Name: Lin Xiao

Race: Human

Class: None

Strength: 5

Charisma: 3

Stamina: 6

Intelligence: 5

Mana: 0

Experience Points (EXP) to Level Up: 0/100

Lin Xiao was stunned by how disappointing his status window looked. He already knew he wasn't the strongest or the most attractive because he hadn't been hitting the gym, but seeing his strength at just 5 and charisma at 3, when the average was 10, was pretty shocking.

Lin Xiao's surprise only grew as he took in the details of the race and mana columns.

Despite feeling a bit disheartened by his stats, the mention of race and mana sparked a glimmer of excitement within him.

It made him wonder if he might have the potential to wield magic and even change his race somehow.
