It was the meeting that wouldn’t end. They were usually long but this one was unusually brutal. They were all Reapers as usual. Some of the worst I had ever seen in my long and varied career as an anti-corruption crusader.

Probably not what my dearly departed dad had in mind when asked Herman to make me the direct heir should anything after him, but I tried to do the best I could with what I had. The fearsome reputation built up by those who went before me was an asset as much as a problem. Most never saw me coming, under the impression that I was ‘one of them.’

The plan at that time was to gang up together on a pyramid scheme, the whole thing was meant to be so decentralized and confusing that it was next to impossible to do that to all of them. Each gave the others plausible deniability.
