Chapitre 8: Whispers of Awakening

"Mama, did anything unusual happen in the clan today?" Juan Meilin asked tentatively, her voice barely a whisper as she carefully picked at the bland rice.

Yun Shinan, her mother, looked up to her direction, her brow furrowed in a slight frown. "Nothing that I know of, child. I haven't left the hut all day; I've been tending to your brother. Even if something did happen, I wouldn't know why are you asking."

Jian Meilin hesitated, her spoon pausing mid-air. The memory of the encounter with Jian Ling and Jian Xikong—the sneering taunts, the near-attack, the oddly flustered servant—still lingered, a knot of unease tightening in her stomach. "It's just… when I was going to town, I ran into Jian Ling and Jian Xikong…"

Before she could finish recounting the incident, Yun Shinan's calm demeanor shattered. "What! Did something happen? Were you hurt? Why didn't you tell me sooner? Lin'er, where are you injured, my child?" Her eyes darted over Jian Meilin's form, searching for any sign of injury. The concern in her voice was a sharp contrast to her earlier placidity.

Jian Meilin quickly reassured her. "Mother, I'm not hurt. At least, they didn't manage to hurt me. A servant rushed up and called them away for an emergency meeting. That's why I asked if you'd heard anything. The servant looked...spooked. Really spooked, and that worried me."

As Jian Meilin ate her meager meal—the food, though lovingly prepared by Yun Shinan, remained bland due to the lack of even basic seasoning—her mind raced. The incident with her stepsister, the servant's strange behavior, the upcoming talent assessment… all of it swirled in a chaotic vortex of anxiety. But her thoughts were abruptly cut short by a strange sensation. A subtle buzzing emanated from her tailbone, the precise location of her immortal bone. Then, a wave of warmth, a comforting current, spread through her entire body.

This sudden surge of energy startled her. Lost in her worries about earning money, she had completely forgotten about her own physical condition and cultivation problem. Instinctively, she checked her pulse, meticulously observing the changes within her body. The warmth radiated from her tailbone, circling her body like a gentle tide, returning again and again to its origin. This process repeated ten times before the warmth finally subsided, leaving her feeling lighter, refreshed, and utterly rejuvenated. The lingering aches in her organs, though healed, had persisted; now, they were completely gone. The day before she'd been aware of lingering ache in her body, but today she felt fresh and strong.

In her previous life,as Liang Cai, consumed by her cultivation and her public image, had failed to appreciate the importance of family and the value of simple joys. Now, given a second chance at a loving family, her drive to provide them with a comfortable life had overshadowed everything else. She had, quite literally, forgotten about a very important asset: her immortal bone.

While not possessing overtly miraculous properties, the immortal bone's primary function was to nurture and strengthen the body. It cleansed the bones, enhancing physical constitution and keeping the body in peak condition. With each advancement in cultivation, it cleansed and widened the meridians, smoothing their flow. In her previous life,. Jian Meilin extraordinary talent had been rooted in the continual nourishment of her body, but due to her crippled state, that had not been the case. Now, her body was being continually nourished; the bone's effects were readily observable. This realization sparked a new idea, a way to improve her own frail constitution within this world where the strong were revered: body cultivation. This She could use the immortal bone to cultivate her physical strength, and with her vast knowledge from her previous life, she was confident in selecting a suitable method. But first, she had to earn money for her family; she knew she had to save money for her future endeavors. After the talent assessment, she would begin her training—a rigorous and challenging undertaking.

The speed of her near-death wound healing, even before the complete restoration this morning, was further proof of the immortal bone's power. Perhaps it was the exertion from her work today that triggered it. This discovery filled her with anticipation for tomorrow. It seemed the more she pushed her physical limits, the stronger she became. It wasn't that she hadn't noticed the gradual improvement before; she simply hadn't considered the implications.Lacking their own communication channels, obtaining information about the outside world was difficult. This body had little knowledge about the true situation all she had was the overall state of this world.

Many individuals lacked both spiritual roots and magical abilities. But if their families had money, they could enroll in martial arts schools, and practice the body cultivation path and with the help of technologically advanced mechas, their combat capabilities were exceptionally high. All this, however, depended on having sufficient wealth. The methods of her current era differed vastly from those of a millennium ago. Now, individuals lacking magical or spiritual energy focused on physical enhancements to efficiently operate their mechas. The techniques had become simpler, efficient. But if their mechas were lost, they were little different from ordinary civilians. Their combat skills were entirely dependent on their mecha. But there are exception of those who joined a genuine martial art schools that had preserved from ancient times although they also embraced technology they did not simplefy their methods they just integrated technology with their methods making them powerful enough to rival cultivators and magicians but to be accepted in such school was not an easy feet in lthe least. But for our dear Jian Meilin head was filled with the idea of having piles of money. Earning money was her absolute priority even though she still had to refine her body.

After finishing her dinner, Jian Meilin cleaned her dishes and retired to bed. Sleep, however, eluded her. Her mind was filled with everything she knew about body strengthening techniques.. The body strengthening method she wanted to pursue was ancient, a rigorous path toward an almost indestructible body, allowing her to defend herself without relying on external tools or abilities. She hoped to examine both Yun Shinan's's and Jianwen's constitutions to discover any hidden potentials. To do so, she needed to unseal her own mental energy—a feat requiring specific resources. Perhaps her mother had a chance at regaining her cultivation. Jian Meilin had noticed that her brother possessed wide and smooth meridians, despite being unable to detect his spiritual root. This suggested the possibility of a rare type of root, only awakening after being refined by a Returning Heaven and Earth Pill. Individuals with this type of constitution would be ordinary without the pill, but are actually cultivation geniuses.

Unsealing even one of her seals would allow her to refine a Returning Heaven and Earth Pill; it was only a grade-two pill, after all. In the past, any competent alchemist with the necessary ingredients could have crafted it. If she could not unseal it in time then she could only find the ingredients and an alchemist to refine the pill for her but she was confident of unsealing the first seal if she had enough money. However, with the emergence of Omnibots capable of diagnosing illnesses and creating medicines, many ancient recipes had been lost to time. These Omnibots simplified almost every aspect of alchemy, and while they produced pills with similar effects, their efficiency was lower, and side effects more frequent, making alchemist-refined pills highly valued. A level-one pill made by an alchemist was treasured as a family heirloom in even average families. Jian Meilin was certain that to regain her spiritual roots and restore her meridians, she had to recover her lost soul—an almost impossible task for now so she would proceed step-by-step. First, sufficient wealth ,no plenty of wealth; then, she would consider other matters. For now, earning money was her paramount concern. With this thought in mind, Jian Meilin finally drifted to sleep, her dreams filled with the rolling of money and more money.
