I had not expected everyone at Talia's birthday party to respond to me favorably. Well, almost everyone. Reece was still having a hard time accepting and adjusting to what was going on. I didn't blame him. It was hard for me, as well.

It was difficult, it really was. To know that I had been there with Talia since she was little, that I helped shape her into the person she was right now, only for me to end up being the man that Fate chose for her. 

I had to wonder, would I have been the man Fate chose if I had never been her guard? If I had stayed in the Underworld, and Talia had shown up there as the new Goddess after taking over, because I knew that would have happened no matter what, would she and I still have ended up together?
