I held my breath, as the tension started to rise in the room. We were all waiting there with bated breath, waiting to see what our parents would say when it was all done.

"So, the attack that I knew about was just the beginning." Mom said, as she stepped away from her desk and toward me. "And you lied to me about it. You said that it was being handled."

"I didn't lie." I shook my head defensively. "It was being handled. I just didn't tell you that it was us that were handling it."

"Mmhmm." She hummed a little as she thought about that. "And you deliberately didn't tell us any of what was going on, because you didn't want us to take the case away from you. Was that because you wanted the glory of it all?"

"No!" It wasn't just me that denied that just then, several of the others said that one word at the same time as me.
