With only a single day left before he gets abducted to the dream, Sunny made sure to use his time to the fullest.
After another grueling session of practicing archery, Sunny sat down on a nearby resting bench.
*huff huff*
Sunny dismissed his bow.
[Cruor Bow]
Memory type – Weapon
Memory Description: [ Once there was a wicked archer. She was known far and wide for her unparalleled skill with the bow and arrow, which she used to hunt for her tribe and protect them from any threats that dared to come near. But she had a secret no one knew – she was a cannibal. From a young age, she had developed a taste for human flesh. The taste of iron on her tongue felt delicious to her. One day she stumbled upon a boy while wondering—a perfect set-up to satisfy her cravings. But for the first time, she hesitated, and soon she was falling in love with him. But her tribe frowned upon her love. One day, she woke up and found her lover dead. The next day her whole tribe was dead.]
[ AN : I seriously didn't know what I was thinking while writing this description. I will explain the enchantment of the bow later.]
Despite the creepy description, the bow looked quite normal to a mundane eye. Made of simple wood and string. That's the façade this extra-ordinary bow maintains.
It contained only one powerful enchantment.
After resting, Sunny went back to his room and took a shower. Tomorrow would be the day the newest batch of sleepers would be traveling to the dream realm. Sitting on his bed, Sunny opened his communicator. He needed to have knowledge about some crucial things.
Browsing through the internet, he looked for knowledge about great clans, why the children of those clans were always infected by the spell, etc.
Soon, he got everything he needed. After that, he went to sleep.
Sunny woke up early in the morning.
With a sigh, he got up from the bed and went along with his morning routine. Sunny enjoyed his last hot shower for a while.
The cafeteria was full of sleepers. Nobody seemed to have an appetite, though. Everyone was in low spirits and uncharacteristically silent. The scent of nervousness permeated the air.
Sunny was carefree and calm, on the other hand. This was not his first visit to the dream realm, after all.
Sunny approached the coffee machine, got a cup of coffee, and added milk and a slight amount of sugar. Then he got some dark chocolate on the side to satisfy his cravings.
'Tsk, I should have searched for storage memory.'
He won't be getting his daily dose of chocolate for a while.
Sitting beside Cassie, he enjoyed his coffee. Over the course of all the loops, Sunny has not interacted with her at all.
"Good morning."
Cassie turned her head towards him, looking at him with her beautiful blue eyes.
"….Good morning."
After taking a sip of his coffee, he took a bite of the chocolate bar. Cassie was looking at him, clearly hesitating to say something.
"Happy birthday."
Giving her a startled and strange look, Sunny took another sip of his coffee.
"Uh, thanks, but how did you know?"
Cassie continued to look at him, opened her mouth, and then closed it. She then turned away, seemingly lost interest in having a conversation.
Sunny didn't push further.
'Seventeen huh.'
He remembered all of Sunny's old memories when his parents and some friends celebrated his birthday.
After finishing his coffee and bar, he went to visit his teachers.
First was Awakened Naomi. She asked him to try his best to return alive. She didn't forget to ask him if he had learned how to make a bow. Sunny kept the fact hidden that he had already acquired a bow.
Next was Teacher Julius.
He visited the wilderness survival classroom and said his goodbyes to him. The old man got pretty emotional, but that did not come as a surprise, as he has already faced this situation a couple of times. He gave him the "One-last tip" a dozen or so times and even promised to apply for an assistant researcher post to be opened after he became fully awakened.
Sunny thanked him.
The meeting with the hollows went just like in the novel. He notices Nephis's non-chanting expression breaking a few times.
Just before entering his personal room, he noticed Chloe. Chloe was slightly shaking but kept it well hidden. Sunny simply nodded at her. In response, she smiled a little and returned a nod.
Entering his room, he followed the instructions given to them, and soon he was lying down on his pod.
In another room, Nephis, the last daughter of the immortal Flame clan, was lying in her pod. She was looking at her hands, which shone with white radiance. Her face was contorted in a grimace of harrowing agony.
In one of the rooms, the blind girl, Cassia, was helplessly trying to orient herself in the unfamiliar space, touching the walls and strange pieces of machinery with her hands. Tears were streaming down her beautiful, doll-like face.
Somewhere else, proud Legacy Caster was staring listlessly at the floor. His lips were moving, repeating one strange phrase over and over again. He was trembling.
Sunny looked at his shadow.
"You ready, buddy?"
The shadow, in response, simply nodded and looked at him.
"Yeah, I am ready. Traveling to the dream realm, ha. Been there, done that."
Sunny kept the last part to himself.
He has done everything he could. Maybe he could spend some more loops perfecting his archery, but what's the point? If he tried to be this perfect, it would take centuries to even return from the dream realm.
Sighing, he looked at the glass above him.
Then the darkness spoke.
[ Welcome to dream realm, Sunless!]
............….
Sunny found himself blind and drowning. Instead of throwing a fit, he stopped moving for a split second, then began to swim upward. He broke through the surface of the water and took a deep breath.
Without wasting any time, he started to swim in a particular direction. In front of him, a black mass floated.
He had already warped his shadow around him. Soon, he heard the sound of water moving. Looking back, he noticed a triangular dorsal fin coming towards him.
Fortunately, it was far from him.
Before it could reach him and give him PTSD, he was already lying on the uneven rocks.
Then something collided with the structure.
Terrifying jaws appeared from the water, with rows and rows of giant teeth. It reached close to Sunny, its tooth a centimeter away from him.
Sunny continued to lie in the rocks. Touching one of the teeth, he said,
"Hi!!! Please die."
Before the monster could close its jaw and bite off Sunny's head, colossal tentacles appeared from the water and rose to the air like a tall black tower. Before too long, it fell down, entangling the owner of the giant maw and taking it underwater with it.
"Thanks for dying."
A few seconds later, the dark sea was dead silent.
'So much for being fated.'
What's the chance of dropping in the middle of a sea?
Again, what's the chance of dropping in the middle of a sea and right next to a tiny island?
It's better not to think about it.
He summoned the Puppeteer's Shroud and watched as the dark-grey garments covered his body. It came with a pair of high, soft-soled leather boots. Clad in gray fabric and lusterless leather, he felt great, safe, non-naked, and warm.
'Lusterless huh. Luster looks lusterless. Damn, need to remember this pun.'
Then Sunny waited. Minutes turned into hours. The pale sun finally rose in the distance.
A new day has come to the starless void.
With that, the dark sea suddenly surged.
Looking at the distant sun, he took a deep breath and mumbled to himself.
'Create a new save point.'
